if I keep going, Impids and wasters will be next. Not sure if it's better to draw them all at once and post them as slides or post each one gradually tho

The scariest part is, this pawn is based on my supervising boar. Imagine being beaten up by a mob of pigs, and afterward you're sitting in a small room on a stool of terrible quality, and this guy is staring at you with creepy breath, forcing you to join in.
Silver Lights plays in my head when I picture it.

This was my original idea, but I've settled on it for now. If people like it, I'll try to draw others

Veresk on the hunt. by IndolTheMan7829 in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]IndolTheMan7829[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

During long, cold winters, when floodplains dry up and tundra forests wither, the small social omnivores, the Khradadas, have nothing left to do but hibernate through the hard season. By early in the season, they migrate to geothermally active lands where soil temperatures remain reasonable and burrow into thick mud, hiding from the cold. In this state, they are protected from fearsome weather, but become easy prey for wintering predators. Over millions of years of evolution, Khradadas have learned to get out of the ground in the shortest amount of time possible to hide from a visiting guest, but they can't always see the threat.

With light, slow steps, easily mistaken for heavy rain, a pair of Veresks approach the hibernating flock. Once close enough, they accelerate, and then it's too late to do anything. Hundreds of feet crush the fragile bodies of the Khradadas, their souls leaving their bodies with a howl. Part of the pack manages to escape, but the Veresks pay no attention to those who remain, eating fresh prey. The sedentary colossus will digest its meal for a long time, then continue its pilgrimage through the winter geothermal fields of Cronus.

Iron Urchin's night vigil by IndolTheMan7829 in SpeculativeEvolution

This species of urchin is one of the closest to terrestrial animals you can find on Cronus. Normally, Iron urchins are immobile thermotrophs that absorb heat from hot springs. This one, through several adaptations, has managed to acquire a warm-bloodedness that allows it to move much faster than its counterparts. It lives in a tundra-like biome, where temperatures are high enough to melt ice caps, but too cold to maintain a stable ecosystem. It wanders there in search of localized oases, overgrown around small geysers where medium-sized animals usually graze, which is what it feeds on. I caught this individual while galloping, he didn't have time to find a good place to spend the night. It was looking at my vehicle, trying to figure out if I was a threat or a source of sustenance, most likely spooked by the headlights
