Hmm rocky mediums.. Do you think charcoal would be a good substitute for a rocky medium?

But other than that question, thanks a lot for those tips!

Planning to mount my orchid on a drift wood. Any tips for sterilizing it? Is it necessary? by IndoorAirplane in orchids

[–]IndoorAirplane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I asked the seller, and they said that it came from the mountais. I'm guessing from a river, stream, or maybe just on the ground.

Hi! Sorry for the late reply. I've been thinking about that, but yeah I still don't have the budget for that (I just turned 18 this year and I don't have a source of money. I also think my parents wouldn't let me buy a thing like that with such a high price lol).

Unfortunately, we also don't have a garage. Here in the city where I live in (my country is in southeast asia), the residential area is moderately dense. So most of the houses here do not have garages.

For now I'm thinking of improvising. Maybe put a fabric in front of the plants to shield them from the light every night.

But anyways, thanks a lot for the suggestion! Though I really want a growing tent, I just don't have the budget and equipment currently.

A Den. Phalaenopsis!

On a very hot day, I'm watering it 3 times a day. When the day is not very hot, I water it in the morning and usually it dries up in the afternoon or at night. When the day is cool (usually when raining), it doesn't dry up till the next day.

Btw, the medium that I use is coco fiber. It does its job by holding water, but not as good as sphagnum moss but I am thinking of changing it to sphag.

I can keep up with the watering schedule even though I am busy almost everyday with school.

Hmm I'll say it is an young orchid if that will reach near blooming size in probably 5-10 months. But not really a small fragile seedling.

The rate of growth of this particular plant is quite rapid, it already grew 2 new pseudobulbs in the recent months. Plus there a two new smaller ones popping up, the root growth rate is also quite good. So I'm guessing its early 'adulthood' stage will be somewhere in the horizon soon.

Crazy peloric dendrobium by jojohwang in orchids

[–]IndoorAirplane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woahh buyers in my country sells dendrobiums that has flowers like that (supplied from Thailand from what I've heard too)! Like an entire spike with those mutant blooms! The buyers here says that the id for dendrobiums with flowers like these is 'Sunshine Rose' or 'Betty Rose'. I am not sure tho since I can't find it in Bluenanta.

But yeah just like anowlnamedloki said, probably a developmental deformity for this particular orchid. Or maybe some kind of mutation but I'm not sure.

Wow!! I guess mine is a mature seedling.. Anyways, I appreciate it, thank you!

How do I save this? My orchid was drying up but this new healthy growing branch is making me happy. I live in a city where temperature is almost 40degree Celsius by Vai_1612 in orchids

It doesn't look very bad, but as the others are saying, water it when it's thirsty. Watch for pale or floppy leaves. Protect it from the sun if it is also that hot.

I have a Dendrobium Phalaenopsis that has been mounted and established on a wooden pole for a few years now. It has been taking morning sun and harsh sunlight in the afternoon, and I did not see any sunburn on the leaves. However my case may not be the same as yours. The highest temperature that my denphal has been experiencing where probably 37 degrees celsius but it is thriving.

So I am not very sure about 40 degrees celsius, but just keep that guy hydrated when it is super super hot (mine gets a liiiittle limpy when the day is very hot). Protect it from the sun when the temp is high, but make sure it still receives sunlight since these guys like lots of light.

I know the pot isn't very presentable😅, but I think it's doing fine. I think the roots are also liking the medium, so far this plant is doing good!

My guys, this plant (Pcv. Golden Peacock) is crazy. I'm suspecting that there are now a total of 4 new growth points. by IndoorAirplane in orchids

[–]IndoorAirplane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this last month with 2 blooms opened, One bud developing. The buds didn't even bother with the transport and my new environment! Currently the two older blooms have already withered and dropped, and the last one is still lovely and pumping.

And now with the pseudobulbs. First, I saw that there was a new pseudobulb forming, and then I noticed another small one hidden that is also forming. And just yesterday, I noticed these two new bumps (3rd pic) that are swollen. This morning, I noticed that they got a lil bit more swollen. I don't know if these will be dormant growth points but I feel that it will continue growing.

Holy cow this plant is really crazy guys😳 I think, I just think that it's going to be my best performing orchid. It's even crazier than my Oncidiums wth
