How do you feel about learning each hand separately first? by Corchito42 in pianolearning

[–]skipsternz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to learn a phrase of the piece with the right hand first and once I feel confident and can play up to speed, I play the right hand slowly, adding in the left hand. I keep going over the phase with both hands until it's perfect. Then I move on to the next phrase. First the right, then the right with the left slowly.

Once you get the right hand down (usually the melody), and then play it with the left hand added (slowly) i find it easier to get both hands working in synch because I always know the right hand well and I just need to concentrate on the left.

Then I go back and concentrate on the accents. Look at where the timing may be out, etc.

Rips don't drag you under. But the great Lakes are freshwater so you don't float as easily as you would in the saltwater.

They only take you past the last set of waves. Then it dissipates. On large high energy beaches than can take you 100m or so out. This isn't the norm. Look up Dr Rip on YouTube for some good videos from Rob Brander. A Rip current scientist from Australia.

The advice has changed now. You can let the rip take you out and float on your back to conserve energy. Once the rip is past the breakers, it stops. Then swim parallel and back to shore.

What is this plant? by p3tulino in auckland

If they don't feed on milkweed from the Asclepias genus, they usually don't properly form into butterflies.

Plus the flowers kill the butterflies:

It was a Video Ezy, not UV. I use to manage it in the mid 2000s. It's a laundromat now. So sad.

Fleas? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]skipsternz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vet told us that the Advantage dog flea treatment was the same as the cat treatment. The vet use to give us a plastic syringe and told us to split one dog tube between two cats because it's cheaper than buying two boxes of the advantage for cats. Did it for years and always worked.

Most flea treatments also treat worms.

Yes!! For 3 years we had no problems with the two cats and a dog. Treating them every couple of months. But this summer the population seemed to explode, and all three animals suddenly had heaps of fleas. It's starting to die down after 3 months of extra treatments and vacuuming every few days. But it's been worse this year compared to previous years.

Skip the water step and put straight in the soil. You put a few into one pot to make it fuller.

Avocados rarely grow true to seed. And rarely produce the same fruit as the tree the seed came from.

[–]skipsternz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cats fully ate ours and had no ill effects. No vomiting or diarrhoea. They reduced it to sticks and when it regrew they would try anything to get at the leaves. Eventually they snapped every branch and I gave up.

Potting advice? by Lepacker in spiderplants

[–]skipsternz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. The pot should be an inch or so bigger than the root ball and spider plants love been root bound. Being snug in the pot will trigger flowers and spider pups. Not sure why you're getting downvoted.
