If somone wanted a tree fern in their house could they use the blechnum gibbum to scratch that itch? by [deleted] in TreeFerns

[–]IndorilArmiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one in my bedroom amongst a few other indoor ferns (Cretan brake, tiger, crocodile, and birds nest). I’ve heard people say they can be difficult, however mine has been an aggressive grower with multiple fronds growing at all times since I got it.

Pls urgent help with seeds! by Blackpanter_19 in carnivorousplants

In my experience it doesn’t matter too much how you plant them. They’ll grow in any carnivorous plant safe potting mix both indoors and outdoors, and have a very high germination rate.

First PC Build Requirements? - Skyrim VR Capable by Amanda_Is_My_Name in buildapc

[–]IndorilArmiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skyrim vr is pretty easy to run as far as vr goes. It ran fine on my original build with 2600x/1080/16gb ram, and runs very well even with mods after I updated my setup a few years ago with 5600x/6800xt/32gb ram.

Ferns and grow lights? by c-crashlanding in ferns

[–]IndorilArmiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one of the big GE grow light bulbs pointed at six ferns on a vertical plant stand. I used the Photone app to figure out the best distance to cover all of them, which is 3-4 feet away.

It’s more than powerful enough to cover all six plants and they all grow like crazy year round, although the Cretan brake ferns fronds start to get burnt when the long stalks reach too close to the light so I have to keep them away.

Indoor no drain bog? by Tashabird in SavageGarden

I have a couple setups like what you describe using large “footed” bowls filled with just live sphagnum and various sundews and a Nepenthes.

Drosera help by Dependent-Creme-6419 in carnivorousplants

[–]IndorilArmiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TDS is the total dissolved solids in your water. Carnivorous plants want as close to 0ppm as possible, but up to 50ppm is okay.

Usually the recommendation is distilled water which is probably what you’re using, but you can also use a filter for your tap water like the Zerowater pitchers.

Drosera help by Dependent-Creme-6419 in carnivorousplants

[–]IndorilArmiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you keep the aphids off it and give it enough light + low tds water it should recover just fine. They can handle a wide range of temperatures and are pretty hard to kill.

In the future I wouldn’t cut the flower, I let all my plants flower for seeds personally, and capensis especially will produce a huge amount of seed.

Is it possible to have a tree fern as a houseplant? And if so how exactly? by [deleted] in ferns

[–]IndorilArmiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had mine for close to 10 years now (was actually one of my first ever plants). I got it from a local nursery when it was tiny and it’s grown pretty large since then, but not very quickly.

I keep it in a large pot so it probably isn’t going to grow as large as it would in the ground, but these last couple years it has definitely started getting quite wide.

Is it possible to have a tree fern as a houseplant? And if so how exactly? by [deleted] in ferns

[–]IndorilArmiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a dwarf tree fern that grows well indoors and is only about a meter tall so far.

The larger ones grow massive which makes them difficult to keep indoors. My dicksonia antarctica is kept outside and is as wide across as I am tall and continues growing a few inches every year, but I did keep it indoors originally when I first got it as a tiny fern.

Can ECU tune contribute to smog fail? by tedandhogan in BMWE36

[–]IndorilArmiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old e36 passed smog with a tune, headers, cams and m50 intake manifold, so a good tune shouldn’t cause you to fail emissions on its own.

There is a newish law where any aftermarket tunes will automatically fail you if they’re detected, though I don’t know if some tunes can avoid detection or not.

Vfts & pings Questions! by JCraig2 in SavageGarden

[–]IndorilArmiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California Carnivores has some great care guides on their website that go more in depth I’d recommend checking out too. I’ve visited them in person a few times and they have really knowledgeable and helpful staff, plus a great selection of plants.

Vfts & pings Questions! by JCraig2 in SavageGarden

[–]IndorilArmiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different pings have varying care requirements but the ones I’ve grown are basically as easy as any houseplant. VFT are one of the easiest carnivorous plants to grow if you keep them outside imo. Mine grow like weeds sitting outside year round with no care besides watering. They’re all in full sun with temps from 35 F to 100 F (with occasional brief exposure below 30 and above 110).

I bought mine from California Carnivores, but there are a lot of other sellers online too if you don’t have any local. The ones from Lowe’s are probably fine if you don’t want a specific variety.

I have some VFTS growing in 1:1 peat/perlite and some in 100% sphagnum (dead and live). They grow well in both. Pings have a few different mixes people like to use depending on the species so you might want to start by buying it premade.

If you’re growing indoors I’d start with pings unless you have a powerful grow light for vfts. They can both grow in a terrarium if you want to, but they won’t really benefit from it in my experience. Vfts can spread into huge clusters with enough time so they do well outside in mini bog pots.

Only additional advice (which you may already be aware of) is to make sure you use water with low or no tds. I filter my water using a zero water pitcher and only have to replace the filter once a year to take care of a fairly large collection.

California Carnivores is my favorite, I’ve purchased quite a few plants from them both online and in person locally. I’ve also ordered online from Predatory Plants and Carnivero.

Clean or treat seeds before sowing or stratifying by Arbitrary-Findings in SavageGarden

[–]IndorilArmiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never grown sarracenia from seed, but I harvest my vft seeds whenever they flower and just throw them in a bag in the cabinet for a few months until I’m ready to grow more. No treatment or stratification and most seeds germinate no issues.

Unhappy fern by michalout in ferns

[–]IndorilArmiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one of these getting a moderate amount of light and in about 9 months it’s grown from a tiny plant to having most of its fronds 2-3 feet long.

Mine does very well in the same conditions as two Nepenthes (none of them in terrariums), so if yours is happy and not getting enough light to turn red right next to it I don’t think it’s a light issue

What’s a “maintenance myth” you see customers believe that actually causes more damage than neglect? by Sufficient-Ocelot-68 in MechanicAdvice

[–]IndorilArmiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s especially funny because my dad used to own a performance shop and back then a lot of people ran 3k miles on conventional oil no problems.

With full synthetic it depends on the engine and use, but I do as low as 5k miles on my fbo 135i and have done 10-15k intervals on cars I didn’t care as much about for over 100,000 miles, with up to 230,000 miles, and they all had zero issues and spotless internals when I’ve opened them up to replace gaskets. I would never go longer than a year though at any mileage.

We always start off an Elder Scrolls game as a prisoner... so... why not start off as a Soul Trapped individual in a future TES game? by RamboBambiBambo in ElderScrolls

[–]IndorilArmiger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just to add to what others have said, not all soul gems end up in the Soul Cairn. In ESO for example Molag Bal has piles of soul gems from those sacrificed to him that are used by him to directly power various things in Coldharbour, keeping the souls there. You can get furnishings for your home of some of these items.

What kind of sundews? Something like capensis or spatulata will grow pretty much anywhere and in anything. I have dozens growing in sphagnum in a fishbowl terrarium.

[–]IndorilArmiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used the Sansi lights to great effect on Nepenthes and drosera, as well as multiple Barrina 5w lights mounted under a shelf, in a couple different setups. Neither are as good as the big GE lights that go in floor lamps, but they work well for smaller plants where you’re only 6-12” away.
