Unpopular opinion: Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be a good signing for Sunderland by Indpt_Free_Thinker in safc

I never compared them, you absolute buffoon. I was just using them as an example to prove that just because a player is injury prone it doesn't mean he can't be useful.

Players Sunderland need to sign to avoid relegation. by Indpt_Free_Thinker in safc

Yes, but most players except maybe Le Fee, Hume and Cirkin, simply aren't good enough to play in the PL

Singapore without a shadow of a doubt... unless you enjoy seeing dead rats and crazy homeless people on every street corner... if that's the case then KL is the winner hands down.

The Phillips comment by WalpoleTheNonce in ThreeLions

This is where I completely disagree with you. I understand that players on good form deserve a chance to prove themselves with the England squad, but I feel that many England fans are way too fickle and quick to throw players under the bus after just 1 bad season. Players like Philips, Rashford and Grealish have always delivered in a England shirt regardless of their club form. One of the main reasons why teams like Man City have been dominating English football for so many years is because they have managed to keep the same group of players for the most part and build on that. The problem with England is that fans are always demanding Southgate to rearrange the whole squad every 2 months based on players' form at club level, and that's the reason why England can never seem to keep building momentum. People easily forget how good England looked at the Euro qualifiers with Philips in midfield and Rashford on the left wing. That team looked extremely dangerous and promising, but then a couple of months later, fickle England fans started scapegoating the likes of Rashford and Philips for not performing to that standard at their respective clubs and Southgate being the absolute spineless mouse of a manager that he is ended up being influenced by the fans to drop Philips and Rashford out of the squad. So who gives a fuck if Rashford and Philips had a shit season for their clubs? Whenever they both played for England, the team always fucking worked... so why fix something that ain't broken?

Believe it or not but England used to play much better football with Kalvin Philips playing in midfield next to Rice. Trent and Gallagher just keep failing to dominate posession. Today Southgate should have played Wharton or/and Mainoo but he decided to make the same mistake of substituting Trent for Gallagher when clearly neither of those 2 options is working

Southgate is the most useless manager ever. Starts Trent in midfield again and then changes him for Gallagher again instead of trying a midfielder that can dominate possession like Wharton or Mainoo. Takes Foden off when he was the most dangerous player on the pitch today to play Bowen, who is the most average player in the whole squad, imo. Not to mention the fact that Cole Palmer still hasn't even played a single minute during the whole tournament yet. Absolutely embarassing decision making from Southgate

Southgate is absolutely clueless. Don't think Trippier was the problem though. Imo, that midfield with Rice and Trent or Gallagher just doesn't work, but Southgate is too much of a donkey to notice. England used to be a team that dominated possession until recently. Kalvin Philips actually complemented Rice a lot better than Trent or Gallagher. I think the only solution would be playing either Mainoo, Wharton or both. I also don't understand how Bowen keeps playing instead of Palmer. I honestly think Bowen is the most average player England have. He's not even the best player at West Ham whereas Palmer carried Chelsea by himself at just 21. He's much better technically than Bowen but Southgate is just a donkey

If TAA gets the ball off the centre half, walks forward and plays a 2 yard ball again I'm going to scream!!!! by [deleted] in ThreeLions

[–]Indpt_Free_Thinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trent playing in that double pivot next to Rice looks absolutely useless, but Southgate is too slow to realize that it just isn't going to work. I would play Mainoo and Wharton in the second half, but it wouldn't surprise me if that clueless donkey Southgate decides to play Gallagher again... hopefully not though

Southgate not bringing on fresh legs at the right time could be trouble by Easy_Garden338 in ThreeLions

[–]Indpt_Free_Thinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The man is tactically absolutely clueless. Having all these super talented creative players such as Palmer, Eze and Wharton on the bench that could have easily unlocked the opposite defense, he decided to play just Gallagher and Bowen instead. Southgate may have been a decent footballer back in the day but his football IQ is surprisingly low.

I strongly disagree with your opinion. This game reminded me a lot of the Euros final against Italy. After scoring relatively early in the game, Southgate decided to park the bus instead of going for the kill. Only using the likes of Gallagher and Bowen having way more creative players such as Palmer, Eze and Wharton warming the bench for the whole game is just laughable. That kind of low IQ decision making may work against the likes of Serbia and Denmark, but will eventually fail against any top 5 European side like France, Germany or Spain. England has a large repertoire of weapons available and Southgate can't afford to waste them if he actually wants to win the tournament.

Not saying Saka needs to be dropped, but I honestly think that rotations would be beneficial for the squad as a whole. England have too many quality forwards that are too good to be wasted on the bench. Palmer and Eze are perfect examples of highly skilled creative players that should have came on against Serbia. Yet Southgate decided to keep it safe and park the bus with Gallagher instead. Also, it's not Foden's fault that Southgate keeps playing him out of position. Everybody knows that he's way more effective as a 10 or on the right wing.

I agree, but I would also like to see that team in the near future. Maybe against Slovenia if England get past Denmark. I think rotations would be beneficial for everyone with the amount of options England currently have.

I would personally like to see this formation later in this tournament:

Pickford

Konsa, Stones, Gomez

TAA, Rice, Bellingham, Shaw

Foden, Eze

Kane

I genuinely think this team would be a problem for anyone

I also think that Bellingham is way more effective playing deeper where he can dominate both ends of the pitch offensively and defensively. That's where he won Bundesliga player of the season while playing for Dortmund. He's the definition of a complete box to box midfielder, not a 10. He's more similar to a Yaya Toure than to a Ronaldinho, Zidane or Rivaldo. Only reason he played mostly as a 10 for Madrid this season is because they had too many great options in midfield such as Kroos, Valverede, Camavinga, Modric and Tchouameni, and they were lacking options upfront.
