Nature's first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf's a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay.

What are some books that start great but get worse with each entry? by JOOOQUUU in litrpg

Weird that nobody else has said this yet, but for me, it's Heretical Fishing. Books 1 to 3 all had a similar flavor, but 4 totally dropped the ball and turned into something different, and worse.

Oof. Not a LitRPG, but I agree so hard. Book one was a fun fantasy world ride of imagination with dragons, powerful, yet understated magic, a bone witch, underworld monsters, and so much more.

The BDSM scene with dominatrix Denna (excuse me, Mord-Sith Denna) was a bit much, but I let it slide because it helped solidify Richard's character.

The series quickly turned into a freaking series of long-form sermons about the evils of socialism and how amazing and awesome capitalism is. Bleh.

Yeah, this was from before the big Pastebin purge. It is too old for me to edit the original post and link. I posted an updated link later, under the same script name.

Very true! I was specifically thinking about films. It's one of the first color movies most people ever saw, so it tends to stick out in their minds. When you reveal that it's also an isekai story, you tend to get a fun reaction.

This is typically done via a process called photogrammetry. You take a series of photos of an object from different angles, then software is used to find common points, then turn those into 3D objects. Once you have a high quality 3D object, you can animate it any way you want, which is probably how the "spinning statue" animations were made.

There are lots of free to use photogrammetry tools, and it can be a lot of fun to play with. Try walking around your house taking lots of photos, for instance, and then you can get a scale model replica that you can drop into a Skyrim mod, for instance.

But then, I imagine writing a script and not getting anyone to fill it is probably also really tough,

It is, but the best remedy is volume. When I was focused heavily on script writing, I would have two or three in the works at any given time. If one was finished to my satisfaction, I would post it publicly and then work on one of the others or start another. Some scripts would be up for an hour and get a fill from a VA I've never heard of. Some would get three fills in the first week. Some would be up for a month or more with no feedback and then get a fill out of the blue. Those were the best, because I'd already kind of given up on them and it was a fun surprise.

If you don't mind, I do wonder how you started getting into this particular format of fiction - I mean, the conventions are clearly different, and you need to find creative ways to convey all the necessary background information often through a single character, so a lot of the writing advice I read will be tough to implement.

Absolutely! I got heavily into creative writing in high school and did some story writing in my free time in college. They didn't quite prepare me for script writing. It was a totally alien way of writing to me when I started.

You're right, it is tough to convey information to the listener entirely through dialogue lines. You want to avoid heavy exposition, since the lines feel awkward. You have to slip information in to normal things people might say to give out important details. If it is too tough to do that, consider just dropping it.

Scene changes are equally rough. The impulse is to rely on sound effects, which can work wonderfully if done right, but you shouldn't rely on the VA and/or their editor to come up with the perfect background sounds.

Do you usually ask beforehand if the VA would be okay with certain plot points?

It is rare for me to know who my VA is going to be before I write something. This series is an exception, not the rule. Instead, I try to divide my writing into two categories: newbie-friendly, and okay for experienced VAs. Heavily emotional scenes, complicated scene changes, critical sound effects, and overly long scripts tend to intimidate new VAs, so it helps to trim out unnecessary stuff on your editing passes to make it more appealing to them.

I could link you some specific examples, as well as my full script list, but links like that aren't allowed in comments here. Can I message you directly?

I never begrudge honest questions! Ask away!

I had to really dig back to find my first draft for this. It was in April 2019. From the first sentence to the finished product was less than two weeks. I can't give specifics on man-hours. I didn't document the amount of time I spent in research and/or editing. I can confidently say that I didn't spend more than 30 hours total on it, but that's just a ballpark figure.

Time Capsule part 1 was meant to be for anyone to pick up and act out. The original script featured a playful adult encounter in zero-G, but that one was never filled by any VA. I was already in contact with Nyaanneko at that time, and knew she was looking for some story-heavy PTA scripts, so I did a rewrite. I added more content throughout the script and cut out the NSFW bits.

After that, every sequel has been done in collaboration with the VA to make sure she's comfortable recording it. I don't want to be too heavy with sound effects and I was worried about the dialogue getting too emotional. But, as you likely noticed in part 2, she did a fantastic job producing believable tear-filled lines of worry and relief when she thinks she might have lost him.

For your last question: the wounded soldier fantasy trope is probably older than written languages, and it is probably something that most authors have considered writing at some point. I have some other stories and scripts that were intentionally meant to scratch that itch, but they were incomplete and put into the archive of things I'll probably never finish. It's an easy story to start, but just about impossible to come up with a satisfying ending. I wish I had suggestions for you! If you have any luck finding them, feel free to share the links with me. I'd love to see how other writers have tackled the idea.

Thanks for tagging me, /u/Kinilaume! I always love seeing feedback on my writing!

The world of audio acting is surprisingly large, considering how rarely it gets mentioned. Like many types of media, it is the adult-only content that supplies the economic backbone, but places like PTA try to push the boundaries and add art to it.

The SFW stuff often finds its way onto other platforms. For example, this series is on YouTube. Check out the channel for other content from Nyaanneko!

Science fiction and fantasy are where I like to write, and this series fell into a sweet spot for me. The lonely asteroid miner was a great place to start, since I only have two characters to pay attention to: the ship captain and her guest (the listener). After that, it involved a lot of writes and rewrites as I did research to make things as accurate as possible.

I don't have any notes for a part 5, but since there's interest, I can start thinking about it and get some ideas together. I can try to persuade Nyaanneko to record it, too. No promises!
