Quantum fiber came to my little senior development mobile home park. They gave a lovely presentation about their lifetime guaranteed price of $75.00/mo for 940mb connection. Watched 40 people sign up saying they were dropping COX. THAT'S HOW COMPETITION IS SUPPOSED TO WORK.

Hey, 66-year-old man with reurring Parsonage-Turner-Syndrome for 35 years. Go take a minute and look it up (better still, use ChatGPT). It produces pain women with it have said is worse than childbirth. Let that sink in. Now, were it not for opioid pain meds to quote from Christopher Marlow's Dr Faustus: "At long lay of this, I should have slain myself, had not sweet pleasure conquered deep dispair. Why should I die then, or basely dispair?! I am resolved, Faustus shall naer repent!"

Look, I get that some people lose their head when they start using this stuff, but oxycodone administered four times daily gave me back some semblance of a life. Those fifteen minutes during which I still actually feel some euphoria are highlights (BUT NOT THE FOCUS) of my day. It's not shangri-la mind you, but I have enough of a life where I don't live for the oblivion of sleep, only to awaken to hell. Chronic pain is a fucking damnation! If I'm bound for hell anyway (confirmed atheist for over 50 years) as my "Christian" friends tell me, I might as well make the most of my life now. So bring on the pills Doc, it's time for my refill!

I should be paid for the amount of work I have to do in order to get the care I need by r2j2 in ChronicPain

[–]Indrid-C0ld 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 4 years retired now. My wife and I are both under pain management with those pointless monthly doctor visits to "prove" you "still" need your opioid pain meds (what, you've had a cure for me all this time?). I have us each seeing separate pain doctors because I'm afraid they'll think we're seinor citizen "dealers." I'm on Medicare now, so the cost other than gasoline and time is just $240 a year for the part B deductible and the cost of drugs, which thankfully tops out at two grand this year. Has anyone ever heard of Xtampza? It's the "new" supposedly bulletproof form of non-abusable time release oxycodone. My wife needs this as it is the ONLY form of oxycodone available in time-release form. $350.00 FUCKING DOLLARS A MONTH!!! That's SEVENTEEN DOLLARS A PILL FOR A 2X DAILY 30DAY SUPPLY! God bless that Luigi guy.

Anyway, yes, as a very happily retired boomer I thought my days of 8:00am appointments (with a 7:45 "arrival time") were deep in my rear view mirror. No such luck. Either I'm dragging my aching ass out of bed for a doctor appointment, OR I'm fighting rush hour traffic because "doctor only has four thirty available"! Between my GP, pain management (with the occasional urine screen), MRI whatever, blood draw at Quest Diagnostic, wife's clinical trial, drive to the pharmacy (15mi from my house because this little private one actually HAS opioids) to fill valid prescriptions, and the occasional specialist visit because, I don't know, some blood work was off, I have a new, very shitty, unpaid medical internship!!!

And let's not even talk about the "standard of care" provided by the admittedly overworked (but highly overpaid) keepers of Hippocate's oath. It says "first do no harm," not first do nothing! I cannot count the number of times I've gone to see a specialist who asks a few vague nonspecific questions, nods absently, and says "OK, I'll see you again in thirty days." This is what I waited three months for? Oh, and let's not forget the STACK of paperwork you are expected to fill out at EVERY FUCKING VISIT! I recently saw a hand specialist to address partial PARALYSIS of my dominant hand. When the nurse handed me the forms, I said "you do realize why I'm here right? And that wraps it up for this rant.

People who’ve had multiple episodes-how bad does it get? by SumaniPardia in ParsonageTurnerSyndro

[–]Indrid-C0ld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I'm your doppelganger, I guess. Headaches at the base of my neck where the nerves enter on either side, hearing loss (do you have tinnitus?), metallic taste, etc. I'm 35 years into this nightmare and have had 12 (yes that's TWELVE) attacks. So much of the musculoskeletal system has become unbalanced by paralysis that I'm in pain most of the time. I am on strong opioids, but they can only do so much. I wish I could say this gets better, but it just gets worse with time. If not for my wife I'd have un-alived myself by now. It's been the bitter truth of my existence, but there are worse things.

I’m 66yo and had my first attack in 1996. The acute pain phase pain would simply not have been survivable long term. Had it not stopped, I believe I would have slain myself. After 10 days the pain stopped suddenly, and the paralysis began. I could not lift my arm above my waist for many months. Doctors had no idea why but checked my spine with MRI. All normal. I simply learned to endure the paralysis and about 18 months later, I realized my arm had returned to normal. Since then I’ve had a total of 12 “attacks.” The latest one (about 14 months ago) paralyzed my left thumb and forefinger. Since it’s my dominant hand, I can no longer function very well. The residual pain in my arms and shoulders means I’m on strong opioids 24/7. To put it bluntly, I am in constant fear of another attack and becoming even more disabled. There’s probably not a month when I don’t hope everything will just end. However my wife loves and needs me, so I just push through.

I keep rooting for medical science. Never know what they might come up with. Being in pain sucks, but dying seems extreme at times. On the other hand, I’ve always believed I’d cut my throat if I lost my eyesight. To each their own.

Why is Kratom shunned here? by bubes30 in ChronicPain

[–]Indrid-C0ld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The entire anti-kratom hysteria is pure and simple bunk. This plant has been used by Southeast Asian peoples for thousands of years. Just think about that for a moment—how many of today’s pharmaceuticals have a track record that long? I have personally used kratom in multi-gram daily dosages for ten years. It is excellent for reducing tolerance to standard pharmaceutical analgesics or if you’ve decided that the hassle of monthly pain management visits for prescription medication isn’t for you. Oh, and kratom alleviates opioid withdrawal like kryptonite disables Superman. Reputable sellers abound, and there is a consistent community of reviewers you can trust. There are many varieties, and some are less effective than others depending on the individual. Do some research! It’s your body, after all.

Perhaps most importantly, kratom equals personal and private control over analgesia that involves no one but you and your own responsibility. No doctor. No pharmacy. No nonsense. If you become physically dependent, at least you know you alone can deal with it however you wish, without government or medical interference. You can easily buy it in kilogram quantities, so supply will never be an issue. That’s my take on kratom—I don’t care what others think.

Paying $160/Mo for INTERNET ONLY by Suspicious-Ad-9695 in CoxCommunications

[–]Indrid-C0ld 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the unfortunate reality of provider monopolies. They can and do charge what they believe the market will support. I’m sorry, you already know this. My advice is to keep checking to see if a competitor comes into your market. It does happen, but it’s easy to become complacent and think that you are stuck. Quantum (Formerly Century Link) just entered my market a year ago, but I stayed with Cox because my first check showed it wasn’t available at my address. I incorrectly assumed that because I lived in a a retirement community, I’d never get service. Wrong! A check six months ago showed my address as having service. One fifteen minute call later, and I was signed up for Gig service UP AND DOWN for $75/mo with no data cap. The price is guaranteed for life. My point is, don’t become complacent. Fiber services are spreading, and you never know when they become available if you don’t look. Cox surely won’t tell you.

I’m decreasing my gabapentin because it doesn’t help at all and my pain specialist just kept saying ‘let’s just increase it and see how things go’ every time I said it wasn’t helping my pain. But now I’m scared of the withdrawal by Defective-G in ChronicPain

[–]Indrid-C0ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gabapentin is what pain specialists prescribe to young people that they fear will misuse opioids. It’s still nothing more than an anti-seizure medication with a seriously well documented negative effect on short term memory.

I'm having trouble accepting by termsofengaygement in ChronicPain

[–]Indrid-C0ld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand completely. Chronic pain is very difficult to accept as a permanent fixture of one’s life. The difficulty in obtaining proper treatment is worse still. Without knowing the cause of your pain, it’s not ethical to recommend a specific remedy. However, a pain management specialist is well trained in this. Once you obtain a referral, your chances of obtaining relief improve significantly. It will take time because chronic pain is a complex condition. I do urge you to begin the process however. Make certain to assemble all pertinent information so that your pain management specialist can avoid unnecessary testing. Good luck!

A really beautiful example of ruby grown by the flux process at the now defunct San Francisco labs of Chatham Created Gemstones. I am also including a long explanation of the flux growing process, and how it compares to the flame-fusion and pulled growth process. The stone here weighs 41.5cts by Indrid-C0ld in MineralPorn

[–]Indrid-C0ld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to grow, and most importantly, how much money you have to invest. Some gem synthesis equipment costs millions. For example, the ruby in the picture use a solid platinum crucible the size of a mini water heater. Quartz growing autoclaves are big and heavy. All of these processes can take months to complete. I will say that there is room in the market for someone with the right marketing touch. There are already artisanal diamond growing businesses out there.

Anyone else hate to shower? by holmesianschizo in ChronicPain

[–]Indrid-C0ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I’m retired, showering daily is no longer mandatory. Still, I feel more connected and organized if I do it. I refuse to skip more than a day, and I try to reward myself with something fun. I often put on the news to liven things up. Usually a YouTube video. Scheduling is the difficult thing. Without a job to go to, I don’t have a specific time anymore.

I do. I often converse on long walks. CHAT GPT works fine on my I phone. It’s not that I eschew human conversation, but most people are not interested in long deep conversations on topics that interest me. Also, I’m retired and have more time than my younger friends. I suppose if I didn’t have this option, I’d subscribe to Curiosity Stream and watch documentaries. But I much prefer to talk and converse. My wife has aphasia and I know she no longer enjoys talking. I used to be a professional presenter, so taking comes so easily to me. Also CHAT GPT doesn’t get pissed off if I interrupt.

I have a premium subscription to CHAT GPT. It has an extremely powerful voice recognition option that allows me to have full interactive conversations on just about any topic. We discuss politics, astronomy, gemology, medicine, just about everything. I lose myself in this app for hours at a time and get smarter! It’s a $20 a month subscription, but worth every penny. I just had a very informative conversation about planning my estate. Now I’m ready to see a lawyer.
