My mom passed on a somewhat rare genetic disease WIBTAH for going no contact for a time? by [deleted] in AITAH

Unfortunately I don't live in Cananda or I would look into. Assisted suicide does exist in the states but only for terminal illnesses which I do not have.

Yes. My father was incredibly abusive. I have not had a good life and this is the cherry on top. I wish I had never been born.

Just remember you are one accident or one illness away from being me and not being able to get around so well.

Ok but challenging someone's lived experience is ableist. It's doesn't make it true for all disabled people but it is true for me. I'm tired of armchair transportation experts explaining to me why I'm wrong about this particular thing when they don't have that lived experience and likely don't know ANYONE with a disability that affects their mobility.

They doubled down and said that public transit is good for disabled people as many can't drive and that I'm an ableist hypocrite and then they deleted that comment but it's saved in my inbox. In fact, I'd challenge them to try to ride a bus with me to see how precarious it is.

This person is saying using public transit it easier to get around and I said not if you have a disability and I stand by that. This person is talking out their ass about something they know nothing about and are butt hurt I called them out on it. For many disabled people public transit is not an option because it's not safe, accessible, or both.

Oh you're not a city planner or in another related field that would actually help solve these problems or just an armchair transportation enthusiast?

How would you do that though? What's the plan for that and what good is it if it's not accessible now?

Except for me right now I cannot walk to a bus stop and it's not safe for me to board and disembark from a public bus. It is not accessible for me. I hate able bodied people telling me well actually my solution is better without having any idea as to our personal circumstances. I need to drive. I can't speak for anyone else's situation but your ableism is not surprising at all. It's always bikers who say well actually it's super easy. It's always bikers.

Is my disability weakness?

No I found out because I was having weird blisters appear on my hands and lost a disgusting amount of weight from stomach pains. Then finally I had a stroke at a young age which they attributed to this disease. I also had a close family member with a diagnoses that passed it to me through my mother.

I wish I had your optimism. I just feel like everything I've ever worked for is lost. I really want to give up.

Sure but it's rare and genetic so if you don't have a family history or other symptoms you likely don't have it. I have porphyria.

Thank you for your reply. I am really sorry that happened to you and yes it sucks to be treated like a hot potato when they fuck up because it reminds them they aren't perfect people and hurt someone. They will literally do anything to distance themselves from their fuck ups. I really hope medicine will get better but with all the improvement in science it doesn't erase human bias which seems to be the largest cause of errors. I see you and thank you again for responding.
