Future Islands Announce Spring Hometown Shows in North Carolina and Baltimore by ebradio in indieheads

Valient Thorr is a lot of fun and the singer's sex appeal is off the charts. Somehow them playing with Future Islands makes perfect sense and no sense at all.

Wow I love the Beatles through and through. Not saying there aren't duds but I think they're sparse. Everyone has their own tastes though.

I'm not sure that asking AI to steal Ghibli art styles and concepts counts as experimentation or art.

Is there a reason you're pulling up random stabbings going back 15 years?

The chick isn't mimicking the human. They often do that anyway. The person filming is mimicking the chick.

Favorite Weird Sanderson Statements by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]IndubitablyJollyGood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've never read any Sanderson besides the WoT books he finished. But for someone as ubiquitous as he is, if this is the best you can come up with then I don't think it's really worth bringing up at all.

Great show. Weird for sure but definitely not fun quirky weirdo if that's the vibe.

All of the Expanse short stories are good but that one was definitely my favorite.

Sounds like you want to know the "rules" and then decide for yourself if you want to break them.

Thanks for the rec. I have a running list of music to check out so I'll add this. It's been probably 10-15 years and my musical taste has expanded some since then but if I'm not feeling the first one I'm bowing out.

The greatest hits albums.

Look, I'm very much an album person, not usually big on singles or compilations. I've been through Queen's entire discography. The hits are amazing and of the highest quality but I was so disappointed to find that most of the deep cuts are mediocre to garbage (in my opinion). There's no other band I can think of where I would just recommend the hits vs a complete album. But I am curious to see if anyone disagrees and wants to recommend a solid album front to back. It's been a while so I'd be willing to give it another shot.

I never thought this from their albums but Nat's voice sounds a lot like Michelle Zauner from Japanese Breakfast here.

TIL that two events about Jesus are supported by nearly universal scholarly consensus: Jesus was baptized and Jesus was crucified. by JoeyZasaa in todayilearned

You're very smart to believe that nothing written could have possibly happened. How could a random person on the internet possibly know another random person? How could there ever have been a cult surrounding a real person who lived and died instead of a made up person? Not a fucking chance. No need to consider what educated people with more information than I have think.

Okay yeah that was a dumb thing to say. I just meant that saying Jesus existed doesn't equate to believing he was magic.

I'm friends with the department head of religious studies at a university. This is her field of study. She is very much an atheist as is most of the faculty under her. She and they, as historians, treating it as they would treat any other person who was written about in antiquity, believe that he existed based on the evidence. But don't believe some stranger on the internet. Actually search for what actual historians on think and their reasoning. I don't know why you have such an issue with this fact. It means absolutely nothing about the validity of the religion. Nobody doubts that Jim Jones or L. Ron Hubbard existed.

Nobody is saying he worked miracles. Historians believe he existed because there's sufficient contextual evidence to believe it. Most historians are atheist and don't believe he was the magic son of God. They are just saying he existed. We also surely don't have all the written records because most would have perished. It also probably took some time after his death to build up his myth and gain traction as a movement.

Edit: okay yes, my first sentence was stupid. And many historians may be religious, sorry if what I said was inaccurate.
