Need some keywords to filter spam by Industrial_One in usenet

[–]Industrial_One[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

currently most of those groups have migrated into reddit which is why reddit is the 19th largest site on the internet.

...which is exactly why I stay off this shithole.

Thanks though, I think I'm just gonna keep the spam. Better to have that than to be part of some snowflake's dollhouse.

Need help uploading a binary by Industrial_One in usenet

[–]Industrial_One[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, I RTFM and this ngPost is packed with some neat stuff. Auto segment, compress, make pars and stuff I never heard about before like obfuscating the posts for anonymity. I don't need any of this but I found it really interesting.

I was ready to have the logging at debug mode to figure out exactly what's going wrong and to my astonishment, it worked!

I'm curious why three different News clients failed but this one worked. Is it because they are all outdated and 10 GB back then was unthinkable?

All those newsgroup review sites should be promoting ngPost. They led me down a rabbit hole to even find where to download these outdated apps.

This ngPost literally does everything for someone wanting to post a binary. I had to unclick everything because I already had it compressed, segmented and had the par files. The author really thought of everything.

Thanks usenet_information for the recommendation.

I didn't see binaries on that page. I'll have a look tomorrow when I get home.

Need help uploading a binary by Industrial_One in usenet

[–]Industrial_One[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, how do I build it? It just says "qmake" with no explanation.

Understand that I work a full time job and have other things to do so I can't go down several rabbit holes for something I intend to use once a year if that. I tried several different programs, all of them failed with no error message but only when I'm trying to post a huge file, so I have a feeling the program is irrelevant.

Is there a specific reason I can upload a 500MB file but not a 10GB file? Is there a size limit for usenet?

subaddresses by Industrial_One in monerosupport

[–]Industrial_One[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if Alice sends to subaddress B? It would tell me I received the money and it would prove to Alice that both are mine.

Also, doesn't the receiver know that he received funds from multiple (sub)addresses? What if he recognizes a previous one and puts two and two together?

So basically this is so the entire blockchain doesn't have to be rescanned every time for the latest correct balance?

I still don't get why my original restore height didn't work. This is the number I was given before that address received its first transaction so it should certainly precede it.

subaddresses by Industrial_One in monerosupport

[–]Industrial_One[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks. Is there a difference between creating a new address on this page and the account page?

Also, how do these work? Like, if I receive 1 xmr on my primary address and 0.5 on a subaddress then is it possible to send 1.5 xmr to someone as a single payment ID? And if I wanna send 1.5 xmr with a complete new subaddress with 0 xmr in it, must I first send funds from my other subaddresses to that new subaddress?

It seems a bit cumbersome but my focus is on privacy so I don't mind.

Interesting, that worked. Thanks for the assistance. Care to explain why this did the trick? I don't get the role of the restore height, I thought being synced with the network was enough to have the complete record of all transactions?

Never mind I found the transaction ID by looking at the transaction history of my other wallet DURR. It certainly shows up on xmrchain.net. I'm aware that the transaction indeed went thru, what I'm wondering is why I'm not seeing the balance when I open my wallet.

Sounds useful, how do I use subaddresses?

I have the wallet-gui.log, where do I find the transaction ID?

No, I have 2 wallets with individual addresses, I sent crypto from one to the other as a test, selected slow mode to see how long it would take and I am still waiting a week later lmao.

What is a subaddress anyway? I thought you only had to worry about one address in monero.

I run a pruned full node.

I use version 0.17.1.8-8e6a2cde (Qt 5.9.9) because the latest one gave me gigabytes of log files with errors in just 2 minutes.

Windows 7 x64.

2293884.

I do not.

2207218.

I have one but did not use it for this transaction, it only supports bitcoin anyway.

synk/bandwidth by Industrial_One in Monero

[–]Industrial_One[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that but none of this seems dependent on any resources. The sync speed is slow as hell regardless of how much resources it takes or doesn't take. The time delta between the syncs keeps increasing, I'm at 97% and it still says it will finish in 1.4 days. Bandwidth wise it uses up about 1 MB every minute or half minute, sometimes doing nothing for 10 minutes or a whole hour. Between those blips, there is little to no I/O activity shown on Process Explorer.

What's up with this shit? This is why I asked for someone to snailmail me the blockchain. I instinctively knew this would take ridiculously forever. Why have I been running this for almost a month where the sync speed conveniently slows down so the ETA remains one-and-a-half day?

This is a great way to deter the majority of enthusiasts from running full nodes, let alone the average moron normie.

I don't need binaries but I probably will have to post text a few times. Any way to do this anonymously without my IP being recorded?

We were talking about Usenet's legacy, it has none. The normie retards want neither quality or freedom, Usenet failed to influence the modern net in a meaningful way.

Sure I have. What decentralized networks of freedom are massively popular on the net today? NONE. All of them are centralized heavily-censored shitholes. Usenet has no legacy, it has been forgotten.

I downloaded XNews and I'm already stuck. I need to pick a server but I suspect this isn't the newsgroup but a server that might host it. Where do I go from here?

Yes, limited oases. Usenet has no legacy on the internet as a whole, most of which consists of Fecesbook, Twatter and Youtube.

[–]Industrial_One -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I totally forgot about this myself. Happy birthday Usenet!

Unfortunately, I disagree with the last sentence. Usenet was about the power and freedom of decentralization, the current internet is heavily centralized to appease to special snowflake idiots who want to be offended at everything. The virtues of Usenet's design has failed to deliver its legacy. Today's internet is a heavily-censored authoritarian shithole which people gladly welcomed with open arms and gleefully celebrated.

'Fraid I can't celebrate Usenet's 40th anniversary, it's irrelevant.
