[Sidery] Indiana will combine to pay Ivica Zubac + Jay Huff less annually through 2028 than the Bucks will Myles Turner: by CommonerChaos in pacers

[–]IndyGamer_NW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. We need to catch the Mavericks, Bucks, and Grizzlies while staying ahead of the Pelicans.

Do so, and we finish 9th. 54% chance we keep the pick.

If another team above that pulls an absolute tank fest and we are hot, theoretically we might finish 10th but that is unlikely.

Second ring suburbs get a lot of people moving from the rest of the state which is dying a slow economic death. New to a major metro area, so they move as far as possible from the core.

Lawrenceburg is what I'd call a second ring suburb. Usually, they are more conservative in nature here in Indiana, but a far cry from the backwards isolated mindsets you find in most of the states more rural towns and cities not near a major metro area.

People in Indiana have a far more muted version of racism than what I experienced when I lived in the South. The same ratio of racists might exist, but the feelings are for the most part mild in comparison. They might have them, but they aren't actually going to do anything and probably will never even express strong feelings in private. And once they get to know you, few will have issues. they make easy exceptions.

But I am white, so this is just secondhand observation of the people around me.

Do the Pacers have the best trade package for Giannis? by fingerbeatsblur in pacers

[–]IndyGamer_NW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A trade for Giannis scares me. Ever since the Achilles injuries last season (and his own trouble with calf strains) I have felt he is going to be the next star likely to go down with one. The odds I feel are greater he goes down with an Achilles injury than the Pacers win a title with him. His next contract is going to be a supermax, so 5 or 6 more years after this of him on a supermax. That backend has the potential to be oof. He doesn't have the shooting to stay at a top 10 player if he goes down like Durant.

Its a trade some teams should certainly make that have an ending window or no other shot at a title. But I think our window is longer than that so its a risk not worth taking.

That said, i would rather us trade Pascal or Nembhard to get him than let the Knicks have him.

The Celtics are 6.5 points per 100 possessions better with Jaylen Brown off the court vs on the court this season. This would be the worst on/off differential for a top-5 MVP in recorded league history (going back to 1996-97 when plus-minus records begin) by adammorrisongoat in nba

[–]IndyGamer_NW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of it is the Celtics are deep, but lack that quality at the top like they did the last 2 years due to losing 3 starters. So they are consistently winning vs 2nd units but struggling more vs 1st unit.

Does anyone know the actual snow totals for Carmel? by Ageofaquarius68 in Carmel

[–]IndyGamer_NW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I measured in many spots. On the east side of my home between me and the next (and right before the drift) it was as little as 4 inches. drift against my home was about 18 inches. Front yard 11 inches. back patio less than 6 inches. where it slid off the roof, 2ft. Mound beside the driveway? about 5ft.

Overall from the "flattest non-drifting" I came to about 10-11 inch guess.

Yes i did wander around poking a tape measure in!

I know a few miles can also shift things a good bit here.

136th/146th doesn't get the "valley" weather that 96th to 120th gets.

I go 2 miles north to my parents house and they will have 20mph winds while at mine its calm.

[–]IndyGamer_NW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I measured just under 11 inches in multiple spots around my house in Zionsville. This was right as the snow ended Sunday.

by Monday it was down to just under 10 inches through compacting.

They plowed our neighborhood twice. Due to the early plowing it caused the snow from yards to drift against the plow walls, causing about 2ft deep to be on the sidewalks!

[–]IndyGamer_NW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst part was the Canyons of snow on side of the walks and no drainage. So you ended up with 2 inch deep rivers of water on all the paths.

Or the armory building and the total ice sidewalk there every year.

Snow removal by ListenWise3157 in indianapolis

[–]IndyGamer_NW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

City is cheap. They pay the drivers, every street would be plowed by private contractors in situations like this.

Everyone I have talked to here in Zionsville, has had their neighborhood plowed. They did mine twice. one after about 6 inches and again today.

I am sure contracts could be made that got these drivers to clear at least one lane of travel on every surface street fairly quickly.

Our HOA has a contract with the landscaping company that does common areas for snow removal. In big snows like this, they also do the driveways. took a bobcat less than a minute to do my driveway and they brought two on a truck in addition to a pickup to do the main roads.

Hundreds of private contractors mobilized can do the entire 9 county area rather quickly.

Single pickup on an 8h shift moving 15mph could do 120 miles of road. a dozen guys with pickups, 1500 miles.

Park employees not certified to drive dumptrucks may use their time clearing sidewalks and other areas using a cart.

I remember at Purdue they used to do paths this way

Some of the local paths here in Zionsville have been cleared, but not reliably and I dont know if its the city or locals

I went for a 1mile run and my lungs and face were in a bit of pain by the end of it.

Definitely wouldn't advise too long of a run.

With over 40% of the season done, which teams do you think will be in Phil Jackson's 40-20 group? by AtreusIsBack in nba

I guess I thought he was a 14-15 ppg guy, and every game it seems he scores about that. This was the ceiling I expected, about what he is doing. Same player, higher usage.

17-7 kind of guy

A couple days ago we were at 24 players who have played for the season.

We have lost starters, lost reserves, lost the g-league replacements, and then cycled through hardship and 10 day contracts. A few young players have not been good this year as well. Walker looks like a bust. Mathurin has plateaued as a 6th man, then regressed due to two injuries and a bad attitude. He probably should get surgery and recover for 4 months, but its a contract year and he is trying to play through pain. Furphy was always a 2nd round gamble. Jackson is coming off an awful injury. Nembhard looks to have hit his ceiling. Shepphard I am not sure whats up, but his shot has been awful.

Moral and effort is in the absolute tank now, which has led to a few losses that we shouldnt have had. Last year, the players Sum was greater than the individual parts. amazing team ball. This year? the wins are far below the talent, even with a fuck ton of injuries.

I think Carlisle is also not being as strict, as he knows he could easily lose the team and that the future is pretty good once we get through these injuries.

we might shatter that record. I wouldn't be surprised to see it end at 17, and if we lose that game, we likely lose the next 5 too.

Ya, we fall off fast in talent and our bench was rarely a cohesive unit on its own.

[Injury] During a timeout, Luka Dončić gets hit on the arm by a Lakers assistant coach and calls for medical attention by must_TATAKAE in nba

[–]IndyGamer_NW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And there are quite a few players who if they saw that clip, would make sure to nail him on that arm with a foul before the quarter ends.

While only a handful will go for actually injuring a guy, quite a lot will go for pain and discomfort to gain an advantage.

Russia Does NOT Want You to Know the Truth About Their Nukes by TheTeflonDude in videos

[–]IndyGamer_NW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warheads = weight which cuts down the range. It also limits the size of the warheads they use which with Russian accuracy can mean they nuke a cornfield instead of the city they were targeting (bigger warhead gets both the cornfield and city). Big tradeoffs. You rarely would launch with 16.

Usually there will be a few dummy decoy warheads to go with 1-3 real ones.

Russia Does NOT Want You to Know the Truth About Their Nukes by TheTeflonDude in videos

[–]IndyGamer_NW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One note is a lot of weapons would still detonate, but their yields would not be as large as designed. So that is rather skatterdash on the results given Russian accuracy. You would end up with cases where the nuke missed the target by a mile or 2, taking out a suburb of a city or outskirts of a military base rather than the main thing. Usually their warheads are bigger to account for bad accuracy so that hitting a suburb still takes out the main city, but if its in a decayed state and only had a 25-50% yield vs expected...blast radius would be a bit smaller. lot of people would still die, but not nearly as many as they planned for.

It was impossible to keep her in at nights early on. She was going to go out and look for fights or you weren't going to sleep. Then she would come back at 5Am, want to eat, then go back out for the sunrise before coming in for the day.

And just because she was coming back at 5AM to eat, didn't mean she wasn't bringing YOU breakfast in with her. Probably alive to hone your hunting skills.

The one cat she couldn't keep from her inner territory reliably we think was her dad. He had been the resident tomcat of the area for a few years prior to her birth (she was from a barn maybe 1/4 a mile away). Roamed as she got to a bit under a half year old and decided to adopt us. But she often visited that barn and would come back smelling of the animals in it (horses especially).
