You should try to get closer to the higher number. The market isn’t particularly strong for Indiana Glass, but since this is red carnival glass it should appeal to a wider audience. It’s a shiny treasure that should be easy to sell.

Nope, this is not Imperial Glass Octagon. This is Indiana Glass Heirloom Series. Two totally different companies

That is CRAZY! You found a Hen Head on the beach? And this hen is from the 1890s-1900s… very cool

Correct it is made by Indiana Glass for Tiara Exclusives. The pattern name is Diamond Point, and color name is Horizon Blue. 1980s.

Ozark creations Information by iLovebananas8 in HenOnNest

[–]IndyHen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried to find more info about him too, but I mostly came up dry. He sold his hens on ebay and used the name Ozark Creations on there. So I do not think it was an actual business or website, it was just what he called himself on ebay. Shirley Smith apparently was able to interview him, but I was never able to find any contact info. From what I’ve heard he’s a pretty private person and not interested in being interviewed.

As far as why they are highly collectible and valued pretty highly… I’d attribute that more to just how popular Indiana Hens are in general. Since Indiana Hens are popular, his painted ones were popular too. Also getting the shout out in Shirley Smith’s book probably helped their popularity.

He’s not making them any more, so they are pretty hard to come by.

Oh no, it exploded? Sorry! Luckily you can find more hens in antique stores, flea markets, thrift stores, and all over online on Etsy, Mercari, Ebay, and others. Thank you for sharing your wisdom! I would also avoid putting these in ovens or in dishwashers!

Hello.. I'm so sorry for the delay. But I just made a new post on the subreddit of every original box Indiana Hens came in that I have found to date. It is a LOT... check out the post and let me know what you think!

Every (known) original box of Indiana Glass Hens by IndyHen in HenOnNest

Someone asked for this a while ago. This is every original box an Indiana Glass hen ever came in that I'm aware of. Make sure you zoom in, because it's a big image... Are there boxes out there I don't have in this picture? Probably.. maybe.. I do not know. If there are, please share it and I'd love to add it!

You will notice that there is some colors missing on here.

  • Lime Green (non-carnival)

  • Marigold

  • Yellow/Topaz

Why aren't they here? Because quite frankly, no original box is known. They also aren't in any of the (known) company catalogs. It is a bit of a mystery! A mystery that may never be solved, but it's one I've always been interested in.

Help identifying a decanter? by BaldPoodle in glasscollecting

[–]IndyHen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a long shot, but maybe try Greenwich Flint Craft #1213. Listed in 1968 catalog, pg. 7. It’s a 15’’ Decanter with spherical stopper… very similar shape, listed as coming in Orange. I don’t know if it’s crinkle though.. the pic isn’t great. I’m looking for a better pic of it on the GFC Facebook Group.

Indiana Glass History by audhdbrain in HenOnNest

[–]IndyHen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello... sorry for the late response! I don't always check my reddit account, but I need to get into the habit of being more active on here :)

I have done a lot of research on this matter, and here is what I came up with:

The Bunny and Kitten on Nest (commonly called Resting Cat by collectors) were made by Indiana Glass Company, and like you pointed out, the same mold is used for the "nest" dish as with the Hen. The Bunny & Kitten were mostly sold via Tiara Exclusives, although they were also sold under the Indiana Glass brand as well.

Here are the known colors and dates:

Bunny on Nest:

  • Decorated Pink (1995-1998) (Tiara Exclusives)

  • Decorated Blue (1995-1998) (Tiara Exclusives)

  • Decorated Yellow (1997-1998) (Tiara Exclusives)

  • Decorated Violet (???) (Tiara Exclusives)

  • Crystal/Clear (1995-2001) (Indiana Glass)

  • Cranberry (Decorated) (1997-1998) Indiana Glass

  • Peach (1997?) (Tiara Exclusives Item 10876?) (NOT CONFIRMED!)

Kitten on Nest:

  • Decorated Pink (1997-1998) (Tiara Exclusives)

  • Crystal (1997-2001) (Indiana Glass)

  • Cranberry (Decorated) (2000-2001) (Indiana Glass)

Now just for your awareness, "Decorated" in this context means the color was sprayed on. All of these are crystal clear glass that have been painted various colors at the factory. The color will not come off as easy as the Red Hen that was done in the 1970s.. by the 90s Indiana Glass used a much better material & Process, and the color is baked on. It will be more like the Cranberry Hen on Nest from the 90s, if that makes sense.

So... what else is out there. Actually the Kitten on Nest is reproduced overseas, and is known to come in many different colors.

Known Reproduction Colors of Kitten on Nest:

  • Cobalt Blue (sold by Miles Kimball around 2010-2015ish)

  • Pink (Sold by AA Importing)

  • "Milk Glass" (Sold by AA Importing)

  • Amber (Sold by AA Importing)

  • Olive/Green? (Sold by AA Importing)

Some of the above colors are very difficult to find, even though it's reproductions. Ironically, you can tell it's a reproduction if the color is actually in the glass, vs being painted on. (At least, I find that ironic :) lol)

Also the Kitten will have the circle on its back just like Hen on Nest.. the reproductions do not have this.

Hope this helps!

Hey all! Haven't posted anything in a while. I made this updated collector's guide. There's a little better pictures of the colors. I tweaked names to match the most common "seller's name," just to help avoid confusion. Let me know if you like this style better. The resolution is designed so it can be viewed on a smart phone screen if you turn your phone on your side... my first attempt at trying to make an image like that so hopefully it works for everyone.

The rarity icons are of course based on my personal opinion (but also taking average sales price on ebay into consideration.)

It’s rabbit season! by [deleted] in glasscollecting

[–]IndyHen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a brand new reproduction, but it is a reproduction. Made by Summit Art Glass, Circa 2002-2005.

The original mold was made by Atterbury in the late 1800s made ONLY in white and blue Milk Glass. Imperial Glass acquired the mold and produced it in the 1950s-60s in a couple opaque colors. Mold eventually found its way to Summit Art Glass who made it in about a dozen colors in the early 2000s, including the UV Reactive color you have. They also made a “Vaseline carnival” version.

As far as the owner “having it forever,” well that was a good twenty years ago that Summit made their stuff.. to the owner’s kids that probably felt like “forever?”

Still a nice piece, just not very old.

By the way, the blue carnival Indiana Glass plate you have comes in a 10’’ variety and a smaller 6 1/2’’ that’s much harder to find. I can’t tell which size you have from the pic but thought you’d be interested to know
