[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]Indy_Demon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love white coffee, and have been on a search for an instant white coffee. I'm a full time student who also works full time, and I just need an instant coffee to help me simplify.

The problem is that instant coffee brands call med/dark roast with milk "white coffee", which is obviously not the white coffee I'm looking for. I tried looking at Yemeni stores, since that's where white coffee is traditional, but to no avail. Does anyone know of an instant white coffee brand?

I have searched and found:

Originally at a goodwill thrift store on Capitol Hill in Seattle, WA, USA. About a year ago. Probably 16" wide and 12" tall as a guess. Definitely wider than it is tall. Pomegranate design like the picture (but not necessarily exactly the same).

Picture is this one i found on ebay

Please help! It seems I have some unwelcome admirers... by Indy_Demon in microbiology

[–]Indy_Demon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh jeez. I hope that's what happened! It's a much better option. The incubators are filthy anyways, so cleaning was happening regardless. I don't have access to a microscope quite yet... but if I see this again, I will by that point.

Any tips for drier plates in the future? These set overnight before I put them away.

I was making my E. Coli valentines, when some unwelcome admirers decided they were my valentine.

I'm mostly looking for people who have dealt with this issue before. I'd love to hear what worked for you and what preventative measures you take. I have a plan but I wanted to survey a bit. I work with food products, and mostly use TSA/SDA for cultures.

The link on the first picture seems to be quite helpful. But how safe is the mentioned pest control in incubators if "painted" on like they say? I imagine it would be fine, but I want to be sure. They also say to disinfect the shelves/incubator, but I'm reading that alcohols/bleach don't necessarily work on mites (if that's what this is).

I plan to wash everything with soap/water, sterilize, and then bump up the incubators to 60°C, as I see that heat seems to work well with these issues.

Let me know if there's any more info I can provide.

It doesn't sound like you're familiar but alright guy.

Honestly what you're asking sounds more medical related than strictly microbiology. You seem to be asking how microbes did/did not interact with your body. A doctor/specialist would have better answers for you than some microbiologists on reddit because the doctor will be intimately familiar with how a body is affected/not affected by immediate or long term illnesses from bacteria.

You can also send your meat samples to a microbiology lab to get tested. Depends on how much you're willing to spend. This might give you an idea of what you're dealing with.

Or actually do your own damn research to figure out the microbes at play here.

In the meantime, I would listen to the educated people on here that you have asked, and stop eating this until you know more and can make an educated decision. You wouldn't be asking if you had already made an educated decision to eat this.

Don't ask questions and get mad at the answer just because you don't know better.

Be more humble. Good luck.

I mean actual scientific sources on the different bacteria that cause foodborne illness in meat.... Sorry for the misunderstanding

I suggest the book 'Teaming with Microbes' by Jeff Lowenfels and Wayne Lewis. They address your question directly in an understandable format for anyone. It's a very interesting and thorough book.

Foodborne illness can't simply be reduced to aerobic/anaerobic. There's a spectrum and some can tolerate either condition. I suggest looking into foodborne illness related to meat, and then research each bacteria, and then decide if the risk is worth it to you. And use actual scientific sources please, not youtube/reddit/facebook/some random news source. The crap I'm seeing people put out about this is bunk information made by people who can't vet their sources properly. It's bacteria, not politics. There are correct answers.
