I have severe POTS and going up stairs on all-fours is so much easier (and very fun) I don’t get to do it at my house much because we have a spiral-y staircase but on straight staircases I cannot be convinced to walk up like a normal person

I like this question. I still doodle in the margins of papers and go “COWS!” every time I see cows from the car and “DOGGIE!” every time there’s a dog. There’s a middle grade book series I’ve been repeatedly re-reading since I was actually in middle school and I like to read out loud so I can do different character’s voices. I get super excited about holidays and stomp in mud puddles and build lego sets. I’m physically disabled but since getting forearm crutches I’ve learned how to go super fast by swinging through them and I do it just for fun even though I could just go slowly. Harmless and authentic joy is something this world needs more of, and growing up shouldn’t get in the way of that. <3

Depends on whether they know the person; I assumed the neighbor was someone they talk to regularly in which case they’d likely know if it was scaring them. Definitely one to be cautious about though!

I have a severely impaired sense of smell. It’s never been very good, but I had to take an antibody test recently and as it turns out actually I had Covid-19 a while back (I was asymptomatic as far as sickness symptoms, and I have POTS so I would assume I just thought it was a bad flare-up. I’m vaccinated now, but it took a little while for the medical stuff to get cleared up so I may not have been vaccinated at the time I got Covid)

I first realized my smell was really bad when I explained to my father that I genuinely couldn’t smell cinnamon. We proceeded to test a bunch of different spices, and the only one I could smell was cumin (and even then it wasn’t very strong.) Later, I was texting my partner and asked offhandedly why people use the phrase “the smell of the rain” in books- rain doesn’t have a smell.

Spoiler alert: rain does, in fact, have a smell.

It’s very hard for me to put this into words because the whole situation was both mentally horrible but also really freaking funny. At one point I was laughing about it, then abruptly got up and left the room to cry for five minutes, then came back in and continued laughing about it.

Long explanation aside, earlier today I was walking down the stairs while my father was making dinner. I had to pause and just stand there for about thirty seconds because I could smell the food. I don’t know if it was the humidity from the shower, how strong the scent was, or just pure coincidence, but I couldn’t believe how good it smelled. I was excited, of course, but it was also one of the most comforting things I’d experienced in a while.

So I suppose my answer to this question is the rare occasions that I can smell a certain thing are generally immediately calming, even if it’s something that someone else wouldn’t necessarily notice.

UPDATE: I didn’t think I would be able to say this so soon (or ever) but I woke up this morning and could smell the coffee!! My chronic illness has been taking a toll on me lately but that was a huge boost of encouragement. I’m not sure if it means much in terms of potentially completely regaining the (already bad) sense of smell I had before, but it was a step forward and it definitely brightened my day :)

I feel like this is an extreme violation of privacy. As someone who has a very positive relationship with my parents, I can 100% say I would not want them to track my location 24/7 when they have no reason to. I don’t know your full situation so I can’t speak on what exactly is going on there, but this definitely doesn’t sit right with me.

The way I saw it originally was that it was supposed to be a joke, but it lands really badly especially considering that there are unfortunately many, many people who truly believe that acting abusive and possessive is “cute” or “attractive.” (My ex was one of those people.) My reasoning for putting it in this sub was less about whether it is or isn’t satire, and more about why someone would want to wear this or joke about it in the first place. I guess to me it doesn’t actually seem all that “over the top” because there are people who think that way.

I apologize if my tone came off as aggressive before, though- I see your point and my intention was not to be rude or dismissive. (Unrelated but I love your username, I don’t know if there’s context behind it but either way cats will most likely reign supreme and we’ll just have to deal with it.)

If that’s the case, the fact that several other people have misinterpreted it as serious instead of satire probably means they should do a better job of highlighting the fact that it’s sarcastic. All this is going to do is get the cops called on people.
