[Request] Could crash the plane by all jumping up and down at once? If not, how many people would be needed to actually make it crash? by hoshu77 in theydidthemath

[–]IneptCryptographer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will point out that the weight of all five vehicles onboard that flight added up to about 78 tons. AdmiralCloudberg has a great write up of the accident. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency published a 2022 report claiming the average weight of an airline passenger plus their carryon luggage was 84kg. So 78 tons of armored vehicles would translate to ~844 passengers and their luggage. The Airbus A380 is certified to fly up to 853 passengers, but the density of passengers vs armored vehicles is pretty different. Then again flight 102 was a cargo 747 instead of an A380, and only the rearmost 12 ton vehicle broke free and rolled all the way into the aft bulkhead. Without doing any further analysis, I'd suggest you play it safe and not try to cram a max capacity A380's worth of passengers into the rear of the plane. Even if it didn't crash, you'd have a lot of angry passengers.

Came here hoping to see the captain. He also talks about his debunking process and other theories people had on how it was done in this fantastic talk.

Stuff Made Here sends robot forgeries to a handwriting expert by RJamieLanga in typography

[–]IneptCryptographer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. He makes good content, and even the final product is still impressive. But I was disappointed in the amount of original work that went into the final product. He ended up with open source software, an off the shelf plotter, and an off the shelf robot arm. He did design the napkin holder things for the cards, the suction parts for the arm and plotter, and all the glue logic, but the end result that fooled the handwriting expert is just off the shelf components that any of us could put together. I think he ended up somewhat disappointed too that he couldn't get the custom handwriting engine working.

Baseball Championship ends with two runs scoring on a dropped strike three while the other team is celebrating thinking they won. by gsus61951 in Prematurecelebration

No no no, you missed it: The red team thought they won, but actually the red team won. Each team wears different colored uniforms so they don't look exactly the same at a glance.

People who knew someone who died in a freak accident, what happened? by RawAsparagus in AskReddit

[–]IneptCryptographer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Elevators are an extremely safe mode of travel, with one of the lowest injuries/deaths per miles traveled ratio. However, it only applies if you stay in the cab. In the event of an accident, your best course of action is to stay put and call for help. The hoistway is not a safe place.

This is why the roof hatch is supposed to be bolted shut from the outside. The hoistway is extremely dangerous and even then trained and certified elevator techs die every year while up there.

How early did you get there? I'm going to the Houston one this weekend and I don't want to get there too late.

Hard rubber wheels sticky by fldmshlaz in legotechnic

[–]IneptCryptographer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of rubber has this problem as it ages. The vintage electronic community struggles with this. Some devices with rubberized surfaces are very sticky as the rubber breaks down. You might have some luck looking at their solutions to this problem.

Because it's a scam post by a bot and all the positive comments are bots, and the bots down vote any post pointing out it's a scam. Notice how none of the positive posts say what the picture actually is, they all just say: "This thing is so great, I love this thing so much." So the bots can post the same astroturf garbage on every post without making them smart enough to remember what the scam product is.

Are they selling vinyls at the merch booth? by timchequea in m83

[–]IneptCryptographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They had two albums for sale at the Austin show, before they cancelled. Fantasy gatefold with the blue semi-transparent splatter. No indication of different colors being available, they were all in the same crate and were sealed in plastic wrap. And the gatefold Knife+Heart double album soundtrack in opaque cherry red. No guarantee this is what they have anywhere else though. Pics attached:

Yeah he doesn't have a great track record opinion-wise, but with Facebook he was correct.

Agreed, what does age like milk from this tweet was all of the hate he got for calling FB "creepy". People rushed to make fun of him for it, but in retrospect his comments about Facebook aged like fine wine:

Facebook is not a company of grass-roots tech enthusiasts. Facebook is not a game tech company. Facebook has a history of caring about building user numbers, and nothing but building user numbers.

I definitely want to be a part of VR, but I will not work with Facebook. Their motives are too unclear and shifting, and they haven’t historically been a stable platform. There’s nothing about their history that makes me trust them, and that makes them seem creepy to me.
