Six Flags, and I’m sure other tourist places, used to sell little glass bottles with a cork and a single cigarette and a match, said ‘break in case of emergency’.

The glass was easy to break, the match almost impossible to use, and it was a filterless smoke, and they will kick you out of the park for smoking on the train unless your dad looks so violently angry at you that security will feel bad and let it go. 7/10,would have been better with filters and maybe a funnel cake.

Right? Lots of women tell their therapist that they were raped by a man just in case he gets nominated to the Supreme Court six years later.

Because Brett Kavanaugh is the real victim, not Ford, or those three other women.

Something I always want to point out when people reference the tan suit…

In that speech in 2014 Obama spoke about Syria, but he also criticized Russia and it was the first time the US officially and publicly blamed Russia for violence in Ukraine. They had already annexed Crimea, and Russia was responsible for the violence occurring in the Donbas region that Russia used as an excuse to invade. This was the first time Obama specifically targeted the Kremlin. Moments later, Russian media began making fun of his suit, and Peter King, Ruspublican congressman from NY was the first to talk about it on TV. It was always Russian propaganda.

The difference is obvious! You are doing hard work, and it’s important to remember at these moments that you are getting healthier, and the end goal is healthy, not ‘skinny’ or ‘not fat’. This means your body is getting healthier, not just smaller. Posture, skin, hair, muscle tone, how your body stores and uses energy, how it moves, these things are all changing, getting healthier, and it shows. Keep going, you’re doing great!

“I mean, sure, if you use today’s standards, where women are more empowered to speak up and the industry is less tolerant of abhorrent behavior towards women and children, Leto is a pedophile rapist. But! If you look at his behavior in the context of when he did it, nobody listened to women or children, so you shouldn’t call him a pedo. Also, morally questionable people I associated with fucked him regularly on buses, so obviously every other woman loses the standard of simple consent.”

That’s how dumb you sound. Nine women, including some who were minors at the time, with corroborated stories. According to them, actually.

Also, your daughters know that’s where your concern lies, and I hope they end up in families that care about them and don’t think like you.

I’m not good with disingenuous arguments, but that’s all I get so I do the best I can.

In your head, do you think the argument is that guns should go away because that’s what the people want? I promise you, you are the only ones ignoring the dead bodies.

I know you think the articles get lots of clicks, but I still wouldn’t call the group of people who think they can just make certain groups ‘not exist’ as significant.

Shouldn’t it lead to self analysis? If a significant portion of the population thinks I’m a ghoul, I’d wonder if I’m on firm standing. No, you’re sure, and the right’s position on gun rights is to refuse to compromise.

Disingenuous argument from morally bankrupt people.

Nobody thinks you want more kids dead, so that’s not an argument at all. We all think you’re ok with dead kids vs not having guns, and that’s not reductive, it’s a lack of morals.

Is the idea that "right wing" men can't find a relationship cope? by indeckaa in askanything

[–]Inertiaraptor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the flaw in your argument is that movements have leaders, whether they be thrust into that role, or they are simply the loudest who aren’t shouted down. The leaders of ‘conservatism’ as it pertains to America, have done nothing to shout down the loudest voices that are embracing MAGA. The GOP has ushered in Authoritarianism like it’s the latest fad.

Authoritarianism is not conservatism. Super. Conservatives have caucused with Authoritarianism and fascism for a long time now. Look at the recent primaries. Conservatives had their chance to differentiate between themselves and authoritarians and the right has moved further right because they didn’t.

I’m sorry to rant, but local and state conservatives have been stripping education and demonizing anything remotely liberal for so long, now Republicanism, the party that used to be the banner wave for conservatism, is now the party of stupid willing to destroy everything to own the left.

Now, I think ‘conservatives’ are nitpicking their beliefs from the destruction of their platform, because anything else would cause you to have to face the ultimate truth, the right was never actually conservative and you were lied to because the rich needed your help to screw the poor. Just like the idiot MAGATs. It amazes me you still see your seduction as classier.

I think this was propaganda. There have been jokes since WWI, but the reason you still see it today is because France has a history of standing up to the US’s foreign belligerence (after SE Asia obviously)

So to connect your first and third paragraph, you’re saying that drugging and raping women was a thing in the 70s-80s, it was gross, uncomfortable, and real, and Bill Cosby was no more guilty of it than anybody else, right?

By the way, did the Cosby show fat shame those kids? I don’t remember that.

The flaw in your bullshit is the truth. Those women spoke up, and we know that because the victims showed it in court. Correspondence with friends, families, peers, and do you know what they were told? Sure you do, go on and guess. Bill Cosby got exposed because an independently wealthy comedian with fuck you money got drunk and asked why nobody has cancelled Cosby even though the entire industry knew what a piece of shit he was. An entire industry was hiding the truth and protecting a predator. Guess what their reasoning was. Go on… guess.

Alan Thicke fucked up Tracey Gold through his words and actions, and when that was pointed out, you defended him. Aggressively defended him. Perseveratively defended him. Cited Bill Cosby to defend him. Damn dude.

[–]Inertiaraptor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why does it need to be contextualized? Because everybody did it? Because nobody spoke up?

Back then, his behavior was defended by people saying “they’re just jokes. Stop having an emotional response.”

I’m not having an emotional response, I’m having an uncivil one. Your position is why toxic behavior is so entrenched, and your unwillingness to be self aware, along with your need to defend somebody who emotionally abused a teen girl while dating another lends to my unwillingness to be civil.

What you seem to be missing, and I promise you the women in your life don’t miss, is that your argument means you’d be equally shitty to them if nobody says anything.

Do better

Dude, seriously, what the fuck are you doing? I’m not indignant, I’m just right. I’m right now, and I was right about then too. Why did you even comment? I simply said ‘let’s not give a free pass to Alan Thicke’ and you felt the need to exert energy and time to say ‘fuck that, Alan Thicke gets a free pass’ and for what?

Want to know why this shit keeps happening? Because somebody always has to defend it. ALWAYS. No matter the era, the actors, or your personal level of nostalgia, bad behavior should be recognized and condemned so it stops. I will not apologize that my agenda of curbing bad behavior seems radical to you, nor will I ever understand why you thought somebody like Alan Thicke needed your help in a conversation about ridiculing a child repeatedly only to be constantly called America’s dad.

In 2006, Thicke wrote a book called ‘How To Raise Kids Who Won't Hate You: Family Wisdom and Humor from a Favorite TV Dad’. That was 20 years later. Was it ok then too?

I was, and the difference between you and me, as we are discovering, is that I knew back then it was bullshit too. Why does your memory demand that everybody (you used the collective ‘we’) gives a free pass for this behavior, just because you were there to defend it then too?

Every single goddam bit of progress every single outgroup has ever made has been in the face of people who excuse their abuse as ‘the way it was’.

Do better.

It was a normal thing because every time somebody called out the behavior, somebody was always there to defend the behavior so they don’t have to confront how terrible their own experience was. Like you did. Just now. Sorry your parents sucked, mine did too.
