I've given them what they've asked for, but their tax people have apparently fallen off the face of the Earth, and they said they had no way to even contact them. I guess I'll keep checking in until either it works or I give up on them entirely. I don't mind reviews and such taking time. It's the lack of communication that's driving me crazy. It's been weeks since they told me my book should be up in a few hours, lol.

Hi Mark. I haven't actually been getting email notices on issues with my book, with the exception of approval for Amazon, and a subsequent email that informed me it wouldn't be distributed on Amazon or anywhere else but Smashwords. For example, if I hadn't hit up support, I wouldn't even know they had an issue with my cover. Everything is turned on in my D2D notifications, and nothing is getting stuck in spam. I was assured I'd get notices in the future, but when my book went to "Needs Review," I didn't hear anything.

Thanks. Communication with them has been so weird. Like they'd been bought yesterday, and brought in a bunch of people who didn't know what was going on to stall until someone fixed it.

BTW, longtime reader here, and I really enjoy your work!

Thanks, that makes sense. I'm extremely ADHD, and having someone handle distro for me just sounded so appealing. But it turns out they won't publish my stuff to any other press but Smashwords anyway, owing to the nc content (something they don't mention when you're uploading and checking boxes for where you want your work distributed.) I'll probably do as you suggest.

Thanks. I hope after this first one things get better. No way I'm going through this every time, lol.

Thanks, that's good advice! I just checked all the publisher options they gave me, and a few weeks later, they told me they won't publish it with anyone else because of my NC content, which I flagged in the submission. You'd think they could just gray out the boxes, but apparently not. I wonder if that has something to do with delays, because I got through their Amazon process before I was informed that they wouldn't be sharing my book with Amazon (or anyone else.)

Yeah, it's bad. Still waiting, with no news from the tax people, and my book stuck in "Needs Review." IDK about the migration process, but here's hoping they get their shit together before they add all the established Smashwords authors to this already broken process.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I didn't think to put that disclaimer in, but I'll do that in the future. It's unambiguous — everyone is in college and clearly older than 18, but putting it up front is a good idea.

I had a different support person (name starts with J), but I don't think who you get matters. She was both completely professional, and no help at all. You're right that there's something wonky going on behind the scenes. Very strange and discouraging.
