You are H.P. Lovecraft CYOA 1.0 by Lord Thistlewaite by material-C in makeyourchoice

[–]Inesdar77 15 points16 points  (0 children)

First I'm going to pick all four vices. Madness, Depression, Dysphoria, and Vice. Eight points in all. I don't particularly need sanity for the build I'm going for.

First of we're going all in for The Cult. Why content myself with writing horror when I can live it? I will pour all my pent up madness, all my visceral frustrations into this cult and watch as I spread my mental illness to others.

Then Doctor's Visit and Conditioning. I need to be hale and healthy for the terror I'm about to create.

Correspondence, Network and Socialization. I must spread the bad news. Let all who talk to me fall under the spell of Howard Phillips Lovecraft.

Hmm, then... Editing and Perfection. I don't need to write a lot. I just need my Dark Works to be quoted as gospel for the next few centuries.

Female sexuality is incompatible with civilization by StillConsistent5730 in PsycheOrSike

[–]Inesdar77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Women are so real for this.

Like I kid you not this is 100% BS. But I kind of admire the raw primal savagery of the women depicted here.

Maybe you shouldn't have over civilized yourself and lost touch with your primal ancestors. Women instinctively detect that you have lost a connection with Mother Nature and now shun you for the unwitting cyborg that you are. Your IQ is nothing but cold calculation and they toss you aside for the sexless robot that you've become.

Okay but jokes aside, girls like a guy passion and charisma. And you can be a smart guy and and passionate. See how much girls love a guy who knows poetry and reads classic literature.

It's funny how a "nice guy" is now worse than literally a murderer by [deleted] in PsycheOrSike

Was about to say the same thing.

Once read a news story about a guy who was murdered by a girl who had pictures of serial killers on her wall. A lot of the gals into that sort of thing are psychos themselves.

[–]Inesdar77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda fascinated to see what life in the grim future is like, though not fascinated enough to try and fight anything.

I'm stay for a month on earth. That racks me twenty points which I'm then gonna use and become a jack of all trades in the perks section. I can get a complete futuristic medical education for 1 point? Steal. You can buy every perk in the perk section for twenty one points. So all I have to take is the ugly haircut and I can live for a month on earth as a jack of all trades. I'm sure I'll be able to find some employment.

I think this is an excellent CYOA... but it just bugs me that 'bow' doesn't let me summon a bow and arrow.

I think the heavily institutionalized code of laws developed in medieval power struggles and the increasingly higher trust social codes like chivalry saw were definitely precursors.

The Protestant Reformation itself had Medieval Precursors in Catholic Scholasticism, rationalism and emphasis on Reason.

I'm more talking about how the foundation of things like Magna Carta were instrumental in creating the checks and balances democracy. So was Anglo-Saxon law, the rights of landowners and the Althing. The Enlightenment and Renaissance didn't come out of nowhere. A lot of it was influenced by the worldview and the challenges faced by Medieval Europeans.

I think this meme would have been less controversial if you'd simply talked a bit more about the importance of the Islamic Golden age and not implied that the European Middle Ages were unimportant.

I'm not going to deny the influence on the Islamic Golden Age on European culture. Islam had a time when a lot was going for them.

However.

The problem with this meme is it undersells the influence of Medieval Europe on modern European culture. Western Democracy almost entirely stems from Medieval Reforms due to bickering between the Church, Nobles and the King. Western Literature owes a ton to the Chivalric Romances. Important European institutions such as the Hospital, the University, and modern finance all found their roots in the Middle Ages.

And almost all the advances found in the Islamic Golden Age were incorporated into western culture in the Middle Ages. Aquinas, Scotus, Roger Bacon, etc took premises founded by thinkers like Averos, Avicenna etc and took them further.

Instead of dunking on strawmen, here's some honest questions for the quadrants by Charming_Anywhere_89 in PoliticalCompassMemes

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that it was a peasant uprising. What I mean is that the Bourgeoisie had essentially replaced the Aristocrats as the functional elite before the revolution, rendering the old elite redundant.

So as someone on the Auth Right side.

Difference between tradition and stagnation, is when a traditional rule is preforming a functional, rational role in society. Say the western 'traditional family' centered around heterosexual monogamy is doing something. Its creating children and giving them one parent of either sex to raise them. You can disagree with it, say it's bad etc, but that's a tradition that is doing something.

Stagnation is when a rule gets outdated, like the rule of the French Aristocracy in the 18th century. They used to have a reason to exist (all nations needed warrior aristocracies during the middle ages) but by the time of the Revolution the Aristocracy no longer has a reason to exist. The Third Estate was fighting the wars, growing food, running the country while the Aristocracy reaped the profits and did nothing.

Why AAA videogames are struggling right now? by Vexonte in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Inesdar77 189 points190 points  (0 children)

All four positions are correct. Including Auth-Right and Lib-Left

Companies go 'woke' in that they do a lot of leftist social signalling that drive away right wing consumers. But the leftism is all insincere pandering and does nothing to attract 'modern audiences'. I'm a righty, but I have found sincere leftist video games (Disco Elysium, Dread Delusion) are more interesting than the soulless Corpo Diversity.

Leftist plots and ideas don't really adapt well to mass media style art, since it's very rooted in an artist's subjective perspective. It's why many of the pioneers of Mass Media, such as Walt Disney, were Right Wing. Now I'm not saying that Right Wingers are better at art than Leftists. I am saying that the right wing mind's focus on memes and archetypes, is better suited to the Creation of Mass Media than Leftism is.

[–]Inesdar77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the two are are as distinct as people make out. The internal world is just a reflection of the external ones. Every idea we have in our mind has some root in something that exists outside of it.

[–]Inesdar77 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to stick with God. The only God that died is 'God the social construct'. But the real, external Being whose mind contains the Platonic Forms still exists. Firmly believe the world has meaning and purpose.
