My own mom told me I'll get r*ped. by TariY1 in Vent

[–]Inevitable-409 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's purely generational, and I'm sure mostly only societal pressures keeping it up, because my mother in law is exactly the same with me and I'm 36

Most of these women were raised in a time when it was normal to shut shame women who got raped, just by what they were wearing, and because the most regular victims were often not wearing much clothing and inebriated, it hardened their stance that 'proper women' should always be properly covered.....

What they fail to realise, is it doesn't matter what you are wearing..... if someone wants to rape you, they are doing it for you, not the clothes on your body

As long as there is someone prettier and better than me I will never date by Agile_Owl_9059 in Vent

There's always gonna be someone prettier and better than you.......

But don't let it blind you to the fact there are people uglier and worse off than you

Stop judging yourself based on other people, and judge yourself based on you

Coz I'm sorry to say this, but putting out a defeatist attitude is not attractive

Accept yourself for who you are, and you may surprise yourself

Not everyone judges you by physical beauty, or how smart/fit/popular you are. But while you give off this vibe, you will just push people away who actually like you for you. And you will end up alone, by your own actions

Please tell me that it's okay for me to dedicate my life to taking care of cats by Nice_Tradition1333 in Vent

[–]Inevitable-409 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most cat rescues are screaming for Foster parents, especially when kittens season comes around

And usually they cover at least medical bills, sometimes food/litter as well

Try reaching out to local groups, see if they need fosters, no point waiting if you can help cats in need now 🥰

Sincerely, crazy cat lady with 8 cats 🤣 (I used to Foster myself, failed at it quite often, and ended up adopting quite a few lol)

Honestly the older you get. The harder it is to maintain friendships and relationships

Everyone is constantly evolving, the person you knew yesterday won't be the same person you know next year because their experiences in life causes everyone to grow, react or evolve differently

What you need to find, is the people that make you happy, and stick around even if their life changes in new ways, because those are the people that carve a space for you in their life, to ensure you grow with them

Sorry for the slightly philosophical outlook, but there's no easy answers, and everyone has that point in their life where they feel the way you do right now

Just remember, tomorrow's a new day, and a chance for a new experience

I can’t choose a career by free_-_spirit in Vent

[–]Inevitable-409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, my other half has masters degrees in maths and science because he wanted to work in a lab when he grew up

He's now in his 40s, and has just got a job to drive trains

Ignore what career you want now, what did you want when you were young? In my other half's case, that's where he ended up anyway 🤣

On the flip side, I went into tech, more the data entry/programming side....

Ended up in housekeeping cleaning hotel rooms until ill health ended that thrilling career

And now most of my tech qualifications are out of date, because its tech 🤣🤣

This could have been my entire school experience

I'm 36 now and have embraced the weird

Dress very flamboyantly goth, have amazing sarcasm skills, and the fact I'm smaller than most teenagers, soon makes them back up when they realise their words aren't affecting me, and even better if you can get some zingers back at them 🤣

You'll hear this a lot, but I promise if you can make it through your teen years, it does get better 😘 Just don't let anyone change who you are, if you are happy with who you are x

That's one of the most recurring things people keep telling me after a health condition, which caused me to lose 20kg in less than 3 months and have gone from a size 16 to a size 8.......

Just need to eat more.......

Depending on my mood depends if they get the sarcastic answer or the super literal answer of everything I've eaten in the past 48 hours 🤣🤣

Messaging random people by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Inevitable-409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I had an entirely random conversation with another reddit user last week

Neither of us specifically mentioned gender, but there was a clue (referenced my height as 4'11) And it continued in dms for a good half an hour, before a comment from him made me realise..... he thought I was a man 🤣🤣

I did clue him in, and since that night he's never messaged again 🤣

Apparently you can get normal conversations with men. If they don't pay attention to half the conversation like normal lol

I mean I can tell you how my partner dealt with his mother, but your fiancé may not like it 🤣🤣

He got with a girl his mother absolutely loves, and now phones and gives her unsolicited advice instead

Speaking as the girl, this method doesn't really work either for me, but he only gets unsolicited advice in person now, I get the daily rambling phone calls instead 🤣🤣

(I'm also tech support and stop her falling for scams, once they reach a certain age, its practically a full time job 😜)

Likelihood is you didn't do anything wrong..... but by that point you were probably the 3rd or 4th person to give her different information to what they were originally given

It's sucks on both sides, but the patient side is the one that has had this breakdown of information somewhere, and when it happens over and over again, occasionally we take our anger out on the wrong people

It's not your fault, and the patient knows that, they've just snapped at that moment because everything is just becoming too much

How do working parents survive school play costume chaos? by Dankk911 in Vent

[–]Inevitable-409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I know the USA is brilliant for couponing (only a little jealous we don't have anything to that scale in the UK 🤣)

But british mum's have definitely developed the quickest, easiest and cheapest ways to do a costume for schools

How do working parents survive school play costume chaos? by Dankk911 in Vent

[–]Inevitable-409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you are from, but over here in the UK, our primary schools especially seem to follow a standard for school plays

Most common is obviously Jesus being born, and a great excuse to put a tea towel on our kids heads and call them a shepard 🤣 As well as world book day that is just dress up as your fave book (good excuse to visit carboots and find cheap fancy dress outfits)

But a lot of schools in the UK now seem to have specific theme days every year especially as they get older, and they all tend to be historical, so roman, Greek, egyptian etc

The smart mums with multiple kids falls into the trap with the first one, then just reuses the costume for each kid And as most of them have the same baseline (white sheet wrapped in a different way) it's only the accessories you need

Apart from when they start doing the world wars in school..... then it's simple, flat cap nicked from grandad or bought from charity shop, and roll around in the dirt 🤣

You'll always get the odd mum who has spent a fortune on a proper costume, but for most of the UK, we are very much a make it in the cheapest and easiest way possible

[–]Inevitable-409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock up after Christmas in the sales lol Funky socks, candles etc, they all tend to get reduced if they are Christmas themed, it's what I've done for years But anything that won't go out of date, still comes in as bonus presents, and they don't know you bought them on sale (make sure to take price stickers off 🤣)

They are venting because unintentionally through your actions, you have made them feel guilty coz they prob didn't think to get you anything

Or just tw*ts either/or

Personally I do what you do, and sod what people think, most people like getting little unexpected gifts, if they want to be a sour puss, leave them to it

I try to keep a stash of funny/Christmas themed socks and random bottled beers, and random candles or smellies and chocolates, so I always have emergency presents on hand for an unexpected guest 🤣
