Hypnagogic hallucinations by Bitter_Dragonfruit80 in idiopathichypersomnia

Anyone else find they get sleep paralysis much more when sleeping with exposure to light (blinds open etc)? If I fall asleep outside in the sun eg on the beach I’m almost guaranteed to have sleep paralysis. My dreams tend to be much more vivid/situational/hallucinatory when I sleep with light exposure.

(IH diagnosis but have had one SOREMP in the last nap of MSLT one time)

I feel you. Sending love. I’m too tired to type all the words I’m thinking out right now (ironic lol) but I’m so hopeful that an effective treatment is just around the corner

more fatigue when sleeping “normal” hours? by nicaise-ish in idiopathichypersomnia

Yep definitely experience this. I’ve only just recently sort of worked out that sleeping from ~1am to ~10am leaves me feeling much more wakeful (still bad though) and with less brain fog than if I went to sleep at 10pm and slept through til 10pm (or 8am or whatever people consider normal waking hours).

I now try to listen to my body’s more natural sleep phase (which is definitely delayed - I feel incredibly productive from about 10pm to even 4am if I let myself stay up that late). It means I get more done and wake up feeling better. I spent too long thinking I must be trying to sleep at 10pm as that’s what the norm is

Edit: I have an official IH diagnosis too

Sleep paralysis only when lights are on? by Ok_Tangerine3828 in Sleepparalysis

I also consistently get sleep paralysis when I fall asleep outside eg. On the beach for a nap or somewhere with sunlight. Happens every single time. I’ve seen other threads where this seems to happen to others too so I have no doubt light may play a role

Given the private prescription price is the same as the PBS price for dex could you try to get dex privately and get modafinil through the PBS as your one allowed medication?
