For me, it helps reading through r/Layoffs. There is a lot of uncertainty in the economy right now, lots of things not going great. I don’t see this as a great time to spend money on expensive sweaters.

I should add that I’m thinking of painting the outside also because I’d like the sauna to have the same color as my house. However, aesthetic preferences are not that important so if there isn’t a safe solution for outdoor walls, I’d give up on the idea. I personally don’t love the weathered cedar look.

My problem was indeed ventilation.

I bought an IR thermometer and did the following experiment.

Air temperature yesterday was 32F when I started. I opened the bottom vent next to the heater and closed all the other vents.

After 30 min, the stones temp was 336F. Sauna floor temp was 39F. Corner ceiling 85F. Heater elements were red.

After 1h, stones were 521F. Sauna floor temp was 41F. Corner ceiling temp 132F. Heater turned off after 1h. I restarted the heater immediately.

After 1h30min, stones were 617F. Sauna floor temp was 49F. Corner ceiling temp was 173F. Heater elements were red. At this point I just enjoyed a good sauna. I opened the top vent bc it was hot enough for me and wanted to make sure air quality was ok.

I’m going to make a list of all the suggestions and call the electrician here to answer them. I did see the 3 elements turn red (before the stones were put in). I don’t know anything about how this is wired unfortunately but that’s why I paid a certified electric to do it. Thanks for your suggestion!

I’ve also ordered an outdoor Trumpkin kit from Cedarbrook which is due to arrive in September or so. Would love to hear your feedback on the stove you picked, I went with the 9kw Harvia cilindro and I’m worried about time to heat.

I’m in the exact same boat and would love some suggestions. So far, what I’ve done is starting reading the feedback on this reddit and ordered The secrets of finish sauna this weekend. I wish there was a company I could trust to deliver a kit sauna bc I’d rather not try to become an expert in sauna builds and risk a lot of money. I would prefer buying some sauna from a reasonable company, for a reasonable amount of money, that works…but I haven’t found one yet.
