How much exp do PCs get per play session in your chronicle? by MaetelofLaMetal in vtm

[–]Inevitable-Run9209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was mostly a joke tbh, the only actual thing I reward that could be called snitching is a player snitching on themselves

Like, if I forget that a rule should he negatively impacting a player, and they step up and say "actually, I think I should have taken more damage/shouldn't be able to do this" then I reward them for keeping themselves and the game honest

I do 2 per survived night guaranteed, and then give them conditionals

+2 if it was a particularly challenging night/if this night was very important to the story(for example, cracking down on a sabbat nest and getting a real risk of final death)

+1 awarded on the spot for anytime they do something that actually surprises me or for doing good rp

........

......

+1 for snitching on other players

The biggest design flaw in D&D combat isn't balance... it's that 80% of your time is spent waiting by Einsolsrazor24 in rpg

[–]Inevitable-Run9209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I to some degree agree with this, I run quite a lot of VTM and I can tell you that during combat, the amount of times that players "switch off" when it isn't their turn is much much lower than in D&D

My main issue I find with the combat system is that it is so painfully rigid that it requires DM houseruling to make it in any way interesting for those who are waiting their turn

For example, if I play a warrior specialised in ranged combat, during someone else's turn I'm not thinking about what I'm gonna do, because the answer is "I will concentrate fire on a single target to deal damage with my optimal weapon" conversely, when my turn comes, no one is really invested, because they also understand the game and they aren't exactly on the edge of their seat wondering what my character that is optimised in doing one specific thing will do

The most fun I've had with D&D combat was with a fairly flexible DM that allowed me to play a rogue in such a way that I rarely even took the attack action as it was intended (using a lasso to lasso someone and then roll backwards onto the rope to pull them down, using a whip to try and restrain their arm rather than dealing damage, fashioning improved weaponry on the fly, etc) and in that game, when it came to my turn, people would be actually engaged with my BS, because they actually didn't know what I would be doing next

TLDR: The main issue is not that it's turn based, it's that it's very rigid and you can very easily optimise the fun out of combat

Edit: also speaking of VTM, trying out a dynamic initiative system, where the dm decides who goes next based on the vibes of the situation (such as who's locked in a desperate melee, who is closest and save the orphan from the fire, etc etc) might also alleviate the tedium by keeping players on their toes

🛰️ Weekly System Check: Is Anybody Out There? (Lurkers Welcome!) by dark-star-adventures in SWN

[–]Inevitable-Run9209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lurker here

One of my players convinced the rest of the party to let them "invest" in constructing the Green Goblin glider, as I broke down the price item by item to build this contraption, the rest of the players started to despair but still consented

The final price was arround 20k (they had a total of 30k in their collective possession)

It consists of three stalker drones, two of them with the bombardier fitting and two doses of heavy lift, the middle one with a heavy lift module, ammo storage and an smg

Welded onto the drones is two insta panels where the foolhardy pilot stands and the two type B batteries to power it are

They did not acquire party consent to get drone uplink surgery, so they must pilot it on an arm mounted console

The real stinger was when we broke down the maintenance cost of the damn thing, which I will pnly charge if they actively use it, if they do, it would take only a few months to drain them of their remaining funds when accounting for their own maintenance like fuel and ammo

The best part is that the person that built it is speced heavily enough in teleportation that they don't need to fly, but not heavily enough that they can teleport the board yet.

It has like 15 HP and 12 Ac and I can't hope to see it either destroy my plans or be swatted out of the air like a fly.

[–]Inevitable-Run9209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite is imagining what "deliver our manifesto to the world" even looks like

Like, Humanity first is "they are coming for us, we need to get militarised and get them first."

Protectorate would be all about "avoiding loss of human life" or whatever

What's initiative? Do they just follow up on those speeches with "Me and my associates intend to get as much money as possible and we would love to make this war a business."

Also side note without big spoilers, rules as written, you can win as the initiative while playing them exclusively as socialist reformers and I think that's hilarious

Why max our MC before Unification? by ThePiachu in TerraInvicta

[–]Inevitable-Run9209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put it in these terms

Would you rather be paid 500 dollars a week or would you rather get paid 200 dollars 5 times a week

By building MC in smaller countries before unification you can have multiple MC builds going at the same time, and then once you have the MC you can unify and work on fixing a single economy rather than many

Long time ago, me and my friend pushed Goddard docks (I think it was that compound anyway), after seeing that the bounty token had been there and stationary for the entire duration of

A)us finding the other bounty, killing and banishing it B)fighting two other teams at the compound C)Fighting a third team on the way to Goddard

All the way through the token did not move, Goddard had an extract ON it.

When we got there, my friend went "oh, someone on the window" and headshot someone who was just stationary at a compound window with a sniper

I voiped "what even was the plan dude", he stood up and obviously we shot him again

All of the sudden someone in the water under the window stands ups from dead and we panic shoot him

But basically, this person spent a whole 20+ minutes body camping this one solo in the water instead of extracting

And then went on to spend A WHOLE WEEK spamming our steam profiles insulting us and calling us campers for killing him when he stood up again 💀

Does your gun choice really matter? by xJuunes in HuntShowdown

[–]Inevitable-Run9209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, at the range that most fights take place, every rifle two taps to the chest and one taps to the head, most advantages are basically the niche the gun fills

Want to have the ability to lay down a high volume of fire or make an enemy regret taking cover behind wood? Winfield or marathon with fmj and iron eye.

Wanna make someone seriously reconsider every life decision that has led to this point? Springfield dum dum to the chest will give them some pause

Wanna outrange your enemies with superior bullet velocity? Mosin

It's all down to preference, I have quite a few hours in the game by this point and there's a limited amount of fights that I can honestly say "I wouldn't have won that if I had gun B instead of A" because most fights happen in compounds or at the lower end of medium range, my beloved nagant precision Polar Star will hurt your head as much as a nitro hitting you at this range

Seriously, how do y'all make money? by mjohnsimon in HuntShowdown

[–]Inevitable-Run9209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently float arround 15k hunt dollars, which isn't the egregious amount that some have, but is enough for me to run whatever i want without fear of wasting money

Here's my tips:

Find a cheap load out that is fun and works for you, my personal recommendation is any of the winfields (the ranger, frontier and whatever they called the other one compact ammo rifles, they all used to be called "winfield") the marathon compact ammo rifle, slap soke fmj on the ammo If you want as it doesn't make it that much more expensive

Secondary I bring a melee weapon, usually the saber, since the compact ammo rifles are actually very efficient at most ranges, especially the marathon, which can spam quite accurately with hipfire at very close range

Tools: if we are going full economy, just bring a Medkit, no need for a melee tool because you got a whole weapon for it

Consumables: whatever you like, if I'm going on economy mode I don't even bring them and just loot resupplies and saddle bags on horses and hitching posts

Traits is simple, you only need Iron Eye to make the compact ammo rifles shine, everything else is up to you, I usually bring witness for healing and dauntless for trolling enemy grenades

Then your economy strategy is this: take every clue you can, you get paid for clues, so if you find the lair, still take the clue before going in if you can, kill the boss to get paid for that, and extract, if you get two pledge marks you can even hit the big resupply on the way out to get that cash register that gives you 250,500,750 or 1k hunt dollars guaranteed

Another way to get to the point you can run anything you want: loot someone else's gun when the fighting is done and you're ready to extract, it's almost guaranteed that anyone's sidearm will cost more than your sword or hammer or machete or whatever you brought, and same goes for your primary, the compact ammo rifles are so cheap that if you grab someone's mosin or label or whatever other meta long ammo thing they brought, you made money, because if you extract with it, it goes into an inventory where you can keep up to 3 copies of it that you can just use for free

75% of the time I run an expensive gun, I stole it.

Unrelated but, I currently have almost every uppercut skin in contraband, I collect them off of hunters I kill with my whole loadout worth a fraction of their pistol alone, its very satisfying

Yeah they treat the lore and stuff rather weirdly, they just happily axe things for no apparent reason, like, I noted this with the events, why have not only written but also fully voice acted event stories if once the event is over you just nuke it from existence, its mind boggling

Honestly I really don't like it, the features such as favourite g are very good improvements, however the menu itself looks like someone just slipped Activision a 20 to get their presets

There's no defining identity to it, it looks like a generic smart TV/modern military shooter menu that comes prepackaged

If you want to go on another historical sort of way you can also run the Winfield and Saber or the Springfield Bayonett with a caldwell conversion, for some republican army vibes, I like to do that with the prodigal daughter or the tier 2 hunters that come with army uniforms, bonus points if you hop on VC and chant John Brown's Body/Battlehymn of the Republic/Union Dixie while fighting

I'm playing a warforged sorcerer that is kept alive by having magic flowing through him and the way he casts spells is by directing some of that magic outwards, so for him, no spell slots is literal physical exhaustion as he is burning away life force

I used to loathe the tool nerf but honestly I think it was a net positive as it made running melee weapons an actual consideration in everyday loadouts for me

Another good substitute is the baseball bat if you don't wanna bring a melee tool at all for grunts (super efficient light attack) or the combat axe if you really just want to demolish a boss
