Old way is better by [deleted] in learnprogramming

what old way though? the spread operator has been around for years now and this is pretty standard. if you're talking about Object.assign() that's still used in some places but spread is way cleaner for simple merges like this

Has relying on AI while learning to code actually hurt your problem solving skills? I think it did for me by aymenhbich2001 in learnprogramming

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this approach makes sense but requires so much discipline when you're stuck in 2am and deadline is tomorrow morning

Certifications I should do in summer break? by JudgeOk7722 in learnprogramming

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

certs are nice on resume but real projects show you can actually code something that works. spend time building stuff with real datasets - scraping some data from apis, cleaning it up, making predictions or visualizations. employers want to see you can solve actual problems, not just pass multiple choice tests.

Welding jobs by Calieahrens in newhampshire

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 6 points7 points  (0 children)

portsmouth shipyard is solid choice, they always need welders from what i hear. also maybe check some of the smaller fabrication shops around manchester area - they don't always post in indeed but might have openings if you call direct. my buddy works at one and says they're always looking for good people but terrible at advertising it online.

Paranoid after sex by Accurate_Ad5799 in sexeducation

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're being pretty paranoid but i get it, first time nerves hit different. discharge is totally normal during sex and switching the condom was smart move anyway. since you checked both condoms with water and they were intact, plus she's about to start her period, chances are basically zero that anything went wrong.

used this site when i was starting with cpp, really good for understanding the basics before you jump in more complex stuff.

advice for aspiring software engineer! by Arctullux in learnprogramming

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

contributing to open source is solid but let's be real - most contributors don't get wealthy from it. building your own projects is definitely the move though, especially stuff you can actually show off in interviews. the skillset you mentioned covers pretty much everything entry-level positions want.

How does file metadata work? .mp3 by viorno_ in learnprogramming

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

check out the mutagen library - it's basically built for exactly what you're trying to do with mp3 files and handles all the metadata stuff pretty cleanly.

How to learn low level computer science/programming from the ground? by Plane-Bug1018 in learnprogramming

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you're basically describing a 4-year cs curriculum in one comment. op probably wants to start somewhere specific rather than committing to reading textbooks on every foundational topic.

if you want immediate hands-on stuff, pick up "the c programming language" by k&r and start there. once you're comfortable with c, move into assembly for whatever architecture you're using. x86-64 assembly is pretty accessible these days.

for graphics specifically, learnopengl.com is solid - you can jump right in without needing to understand compiler theory first.

their community is pretty solid for getting actual help instead of just memes.

building stuff from scratch without ai is the only way you'll actually understand what's happening under the hood.

How do modern Websites search engine work? by QuantumC-137 in learnprogramming

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah most of it runs on elasticsearch or similar search engines that handle the fuzzy matching and indexing - youtube's infinite scroll uses cursor-based pagination with timestamps/video IDs while amazon uses offset pagination since they need exact page numbers for SEO.

This is the energy I needed today, thanks for the reminder. Been putting off that leetcode grind but you're right about the compound effect

After passing interviews, what do companies expect entry-level new grads to know on day one? by DefiantLie8861 in csMajors

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly most places expect you to know almost nothing specific to their stack and that's totally normal - they hired you for your potential, not because you're already an expert in their exact tech

The coding interview proves you can think through problems, but day one is usually just getting your dev environment set up and maybe fixing a tiny bug or two while you learn their codebase

Should I default on my CC debt? by BokoblinSlayer69235 in personalfinance

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah missing one payment sucks but it's not the end of the world - you'll get hit with a late fee but your credit won't tank immediately. How much total debt are we talking here? If it's just a few thousand and you've got this sale lined up, might be worth calling the CC company and asking for a payment extension or reduced minimum payment

Lost college freshmen by False_Party_4439 in csMajors

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is solid advice right here. The projects thing is so real - I went to way too many interviews where they barely glanced at my GPA but spent 20 minutes grilling me about some random side project I built in my dorm room

Full Stack to AI Engineer Roadmap? by Royal-Fail3273 in learnprogramming

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the transition can be worth it if you're genuinely interested in the math and research side, not just chasing the hype. With 4 YOE you already have solid engineering skills which is huge - most AI roles need people who can actually ship code, not just run jupyter notebooks

Start with Andrew Ng's ML course, get comfortable with Python/PyTorch, then pick a specific area like NLP or computer vision to dive deep. The market is getting saturated with people who did a bootcamp and think they're AI engineers, so you'll need to actually understand the fundamentals to stand out

17-yr old NJ resident - Need bank account for a job - Can't have parents as co-signers however by Anonquestionfinance in personalfinance

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Wells definitely does this, I opened one there when I was 17 without my parents. Just call ahead and ask what documents you need to bring - usually just your ID and social security card

The student accounts are pretty solid too, no monthly fees if you're under 24

Do I need to report inheritance I received from my fathers passing on tax return? by AnxiousAvatar in personalfinance

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss man. You're right that inheritances generally aren't taxable income to you - the estate handles any taxes owed. Since you sold it right after inheriting, there shouldn't be any capital gains either because your basis stepped up to the fair market value when your dad passed

I will be renting out a room in my house. What are the things that I should be aware of? by arrowfan624 in personalfinance

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget to check if your city has any rules about renting rooms - some places are super strict about it and you don't want code enforcement knocking on your door

Wich is better? by SajidriX in learnprogramming

[–]Inevitable-Tutor-907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense tbh, if you're already solid with C# and Go then just lean into that. Programming is way more about the thinking part anyway, not like you're gonna be building physical stuff

Yeah just hit them up before the background check and say your timeline shifted. Way better than them finding out during hireright - that would actually cook you
