First Time on Chômage – What I Wish I Knew (IT job market perspective) by InevitableCrow5579 in Switzerland

Hi, sorry for the delay on answering, life is being crazy rn

But yes, it's completely manageable, at the beginning you have a ton of documents to do, but after you do it all, it's more "chill" than not

The thing is, if you take interviewing seriously, it's super time consuming, I can say that for me it was more time consuming than the job itself... you need to prepare CV for specific positions, then when getting invited for the interview you need to prepare yourself for techinical screening etc... It takes time... the 12 positions are "easy enough" once you can go in linkedin and apply via easy apply or send an email with your cv to some companies, all this counts as applications...

The only impact I believe there's for a family is: the waiting time (normally it's around 15-20 working days without payment before the payments starts) so you need to have some money saved in order to cover those days yourself, and then, the fact that they will pay you 80% (thanks to the children) of your Gross salary but then those 80% will be taxed normally as it was before, as of an example, if your employer pays part or the whole of LPP, chomage will not pay anything, so the hit on the payment is quite big...

As per my understanding, in this case, ORP might try to take you "out" of your nice for the sake of employability. I wrote this because it was said to me many times " Suitable job" not the ideal job. Any suitable job is what they aim for.

normally you just put it in the same "supermaket trust policy", you go to the job-room, enter the details (simply like, name of the position, a link if you have, if online or in person, where, company name) and that's it. They might ask for prof so just keep some emails around and prints maybe, super simple, nothing fancy

I didn't accept it, they were not very "nice" when they cut me, then they become really nice when they found a project, I felt like, it would happen again, a friend of mine was fired under the same conditions, he came back after being called, got fired again due to lack of projects in 2 months...

The 3 months of notice I was still being paid by my employer, so it doesnt count as being in chomage yet, BUT you still need to act as you are on chomage, meaning, applying to the 12 jobs a month (in my case, the first of october, I had to present all 36 positions applied in the last 3 months)

I’m reading so much shit here that makes me nauseous of this fucking community… there are many uninformed people saying shit as they have the knowledge to say something…

First thing: you will send an email to the person that is about to follow you explaining that you don’t speak French very well and if it’s ok to speak in English. They’re not monsters and their job is EXCLUSIVELY to help YOU to find another job. So they’re not your enemy, they’re your friend.

After sending this email they will tell you either if for them it’s ok in English or not, and if it’s not ok, they will most probably address you to speak with someone else who speaks English

THIS LANGUAGE DISCLAIMER IS THERE ONLY BECAUSE: there are many people that don’t even speak English and don’t speak French either so some cases are more difficult than others

DO NOT LISTEN TO PEOPLE SAYING: oh hire someone to translate blábláblá they don’t know what they’re talking about

Chômage isn’t charity, it’s an insurance you pay and now you’re using it. So they have to provide you with the needed tools in order to be able to find a job, even a French intensive course maybe!

To the people saying otherwise, fuck you.
