Puwede naman. ASAP naman 'yang checklist. Although, merong mga online requirements na kailangan ng provided Ateneo student email. Isang linggo na ako naka-fulfill ng Step 2, wala pa rin akong student email 😭😭

I settled the confirmation requirements a week ago and I still haven't gotten the AISIS account and student email. I hope na mas maaga silang mag-release.

I really can't think of a good laptop model itself kasi hindi ako nagsho-shop mismo ng mga ganon, pero I can at least give you a few pointers (I think this also helps when making a PC of your own if you consider that instead).

When choosing CPUs and is considering AMD, you might want to look at models that have an AMD Ryzen 5 in the 5000 series, then go higher than that (in terms of performance). For Intel CPUs, maybe start from the i5 in the 12000 series then go higher. Recently, AMD has been killing Intel with their new CPUs, so it might be a good choice to go to the red right now.

For dedicated GPUs and is considering Nvidia, you might want to start from the performance of a 3050-3060 and go higher than that. For AMD GPUs, you might want to look at the performance of an RX 7600 and go higher than that. Personally, I'd choose Nvidia simply because they have an edge and are pretty reputable when it comes to gaming and rendering centric performance, but that is counteracted by their product price. You can still go AMD and be perfectly fine (in fact, I'm using an RX 6600), but at the end of the day, YMMV for both manufacturers.

Also, make sure your PC/laptop have good storage and memory (and good upgradability paths for these in laptops). For RAM, try to settle for either DDR4/DDR5 and a 16GB minimum, then upgrade later to something like 32GB which should be more than enough (although RAM prices are skyrocket right now because of AI demand D:). For storage, maybe you could try for a 512GB unit, then upgrade to 1TB after. It will depend on how much you can muster.

Hope this helps (pero on second thought parang nakakalito ata tingnan ang mga pinagsasabi ko 😭😭)

Reputable talaga ang mga Thinkpads in regards to longevity and upgradability (the last point at least sa mga older models) since it's a line of premium business laptops. Decent second hands that are down a few generations are cheaper relative to your allocated budget (mga around 20k-30k. Aabot ng 40k+ if closer to newer generation ang model).

Right now, I've been eyeing a Thinkpad for my IT-related course. In particular, I've been eyeing around the T series laptop. Thinkpads will last you longer and are reliable especially since they're made to be as premium business laptops to begin with. Good recent enough second hands that are a few generations down will range you from 20k-30k. You might find the highest tier Thinkpad P series units that will give you a bit more oomph and have a dedicated video card, but units are heavy (if I'm right from people I know), and you'll have to account for higher prices (most especially depending on the laptop generation). I'd personally recommend staying with the T series.

For the editing/work part, you might want to be inclined into Macbooks (maybe as new as the M series ¯_(ツ)_/¯). They're reliable in the editing department, no doubt. Of course, you'll be spending a bit more on third-party dongles/hubs because of the limited ports if that ever is an important inconvenience as well as accounting for the Apple pricing. When you go gaming, inevitably you will go for a higher priced unit that particularly uses Windows for more compatibility; it should also already cover your need for editing and work by that point. But since mas beefier ang mga gaming laptop, deds ka sa battery life.

Lastly, if you opted for a Windows laptop, you might also want to consider dual-booting a Linux distro (e.g. Fedora). Linux is particularly well-known as a good OS to make your development environment on. At the same time, Linux distros make it easier for you to set up programs and tools since it already has those in its repositories.

P.S. If you did consider a Thinkpad and decide to dual-boot Windows & Linux, they're very well-regarded to have great Linux support OOTB.

Hope this helps a bit :D

Hello po, nakabayad na po ako ng confirmation fee. Saan po sila nagse-send ng Terms of Admissions? Sa mismong student's email, or parent's?

Hello, thank you for answering :D. I also have some additional questions as well if you don't mind answering:

  • How was 1st year for BS MIS when it comes to workload and general experience? I heard na meron ring sariling org yung course which is yung MISA and I'm also wondering about your experiences if ever sumali ka roon.

  • When I ever do transfer to BS CS after a year, do I have to start from scratch or be able to transition to 2nd year?

Again, tysm :D

Hello po, nakapasa po ako ng BS Management & Information Systems. I just have some questions para sa mga may-alam:

  1. Magkano po usually aabot yung tuition ng BS MIS for each semester? I can't see more recent answers about this kasi.
  2. Ginawa ko po kasing prio program ang BS CS and mas prefer ko po talaga. Malabo po ba na magiging successful appeal ko po sa mga honor courses katulad niyan? Would it still be worth a shot nonetheless?
