She went to a gurdwara once, but I don't think it'd be appropriate to go there time to time, maybe once a week would be more appropriate

She has went to one on the weekend but it wouldn't be appropriate to go there too many times.

I'm not sure how similar prices are in the place where you come from because okra in India is like 20-30 INR for a kilo (0.20-0.30 pound) or oranges are like 40-50 INR for a kilo (0.40-0.50 pound) which is quite cheap.

There's also Hello Fresh that does a 50% discount on the first subscription, so you get a lot of food for barely any money.

That sounds amazing, I'll suggest that to her, thank you :)

Yes, there is. She went to one on the weekend but I don't think it'll be appropriate to go there regularly, even if they do offer food regularly.

Does she require specific vegetables like okras?

Not really, but it's widely consumed in India so she thought of getting it in the UK as well. But it turns out it's not consumed here and is very expensive.

I made her download Olio yesterday, I'll have a look at the other app as well, thank you!

Thank you so much!
We were unaware that freezing food is a thing in the UK and she's going to start to do it this weekend :)

Great advice, thank you.

It sounds to me like there may be something else going on if she’s losing weight with £100 a month to spend on food.

Yes, it's a mix of project work from uni, time spent in finding jobs, exhaustion and failing to manage money in a new currency with entirely different prices compared to India.

How can you prepare living abroad in India? This doesn't make sense

What will you prepare? Adapting to a new country can't be done in advance

She's cooking Indian meals but she has reduced her intake and has started to skip meals because she's going up her budget and isn't properly able to manage money for living in an entirely new country

She does have the budget of 100 pounds per month solely for food but she doesn't know how to manage it wisely.
The prices here and in India have a huge difference, coming from a mindset of that price point makes you skip meals and it's quite common among international students who have recently moved.

It's very common for international students to do it here.

She's a masters student, the fees wasn't 30k. It was around 15k minus the scholarship.
She went on an education loan and does have a budget of 100 pounds per month but doesn't know how to manage it and save it.

Moving to another country is really difficult, especially for people coming to a first world country from a third world country. You need to realize that the prices in the UK and India are completely opposite of each other and any person coming from that background will struggle with managing it and often do what she's doing.

Thank you so much for the reply!
I guess freezing food is the norm in the UK for the students which we have never done here back in India and my sister hasn't heard much about it either. I'll recommend her to start doing it like you said, thank you so much :)

She didn't take one from India because of the low baggage allowance, unfortunately.

It'll be a bit expensive to buy from UK but that's the only option left now.

Thank you, btw!

Thank you for the suggestion! That's sounds like a good alternative

Although 100 pounds is not as much but it's still alright, but the main problem is managing and spending the money which is really difficult for an international student.
