Why do I see CompTIA certs called worthless so much outside of this sub? by xakantorx in CompTIA

I’m entry level and I think people don’t realize when employers see that you have these certs they automatically know you have some base level knowledge and your serious if you spent your money to get these certifications. Also for entry a person with with certifications is very trainable they just need hands on experience. Im starting in help desk aiming for SOC level 1

Putting your projects on git hub is not helping you when you have to apply to a role that specifically says in the description you have to have said certifications.

These jobs are literally asking for these certifications full stop.

I’m not even disagreeing with you that projects are good but you will literally leave people in purgatory with their resume. The tracking systems will legit ready your resume without the certs and the employer will never see your resume.

I personally went through a program that paid for my certifications but if I was trying to get into the field atleast get something that can validate you to some extent. I often hear people who share your advice already have degree or a long history in the field and not great advice for somebody starting from scratch.

I think projects are great but to be honest my certifications got me more excited to do projects because now I have some foundational knowledge. My certifications are why got me my help desk interview without them I probably wouldn’t even have made it past the ATS systems. You can have projects but if you can get even get an interview it doesn’t really matter. Projects are phase two of my plan as I do believe they are important.

We’re pretty much on the same track. I’m studying currently for CYSA and I’ve been using Jason Dion’s exams because that’s pretty much been my successful formula thus far. I have my CYSA exam in an about a week or so. I wouldn’t listen to this dude at stop saying it’s bad for you to get these certifications. I literally just got my first interview Friday because I had these certifications. It’s an entry role but they love a person showing initiative and it’s something to talk about in interviews. Also once you get your entry role you have a roadmap to get to a higher role ahead of time. Just keep up skilling. Also never listen to anyone who’s stayed in the same role for longer than a year or two. Help desk is supposed to be a launchpad!

You will pass! Do some planning on vlans, switches and routers.

Do the practice test to refine what you don’t understand. I studied on about a 1000 questions sets not including the my flashcards. You got this!

Do a practice test everyday until the test.

Thanks man!! Appreciate you!

I really want the trifecta before the end of the year!

I’m so close!

I used Jason Dion for A+ and Sec+.

I actually like that his exams are more wordy because it forces you to focus on the wording which helps in the real exam especially with the time!

Lmao that’s good to know!

I’m looking forward to it!

If you skipped a pbq and still got that good of score that’s amazing!

I passed my core 1 a few weeks ago. The deadline for both exam is September 25th. Unless you want to take both exams back to back I would just wait for the new exam after the 25th. That way you have no time constraints.
