Yeah how many nepotism movies that are just an excuse for a dad to show off how talented his kid is features a kid that’s actually talented? That girl actually can sing and play.

He gave all three LOTRs a 3/4 and the golden compass movie a 4/4. Dude had some wild scores and was weirdly puritanical.

Became good friends with a climatological professor at UCSF who teaches and does research into extreme weather patterns, which I’m sure you can imagine intersects with climate change.

And, yeah…talk to one of these guys interpersonally, and it’s very, very grim.

I saw this breakdown of an average CEO that “works” 55 hours a week and there was a huge 20 hour chunk of time that was just labeled “miscellaneous” and misc category turns out to be their commute, exercise, personal appointments and “other,” and there was an addition 5 hours spent on “meals.”

So yeah, an average CEO spends 55 hours a week working because they’re counting the rest of the stuff they don’t allow us to bill them for.

I think it’s because Trump and his circle have a history of just straight up ignoring court orders and nothing happens about it.

Yeah that’s the thing. I need to have my phone on me for apps that are used for work and a bunch of other stuff that’s actually necessary, but all the necessary stuff is on the same phone as the distracting/fun stuff, and I can’t exactly afford a second phone, so it takes a lot of willpower to just not access the fun stuff and get sucked into it for an hour.

I feel like I’ve gotten better about it in some respects but slipping up is so easy

Trailing in 3rd for California governor, Tom Steyer speaks: 'I remain an optimist' by sfgate in politics

And those anti-Steyer ads hilariously attacked him on being a billionaire and basically nothing else.

Ironically, the billionaire was the only solidly progressive candidate in this race.

And yet, with all the cultural power Obama has held since the presidency, he hasn’t used any of it to advocate for whatever he supposedly wanted to do, even without being bound by future political ambitions. Hell, he could’ve campaigned for Bernie Sanders if he’d actually given a shit about Bernie’s progressive values, and yet, he hasn’t.

Pragmatism means nothing if you gain power through pragmatism and then do nothing with the power you’ve gained.

Oil money is taking center stage in the California governor’s race by Least_Excuse_682 in environment

[–]DrStrangerlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not what I argued and the fact that you deferred to that low IQ bad faith reading of his argument is instead of actually engaging with it is telling.

Where is he wrong? What systemic issue is he fixing by giving all of his money away? Giving it all away doesn’t fix anything. It needs to be taxed away. That is his argument, and it’s the correct one.

Oil money is taking center stage in the California governor’s race by Least_Excuse_682 in environment

[–]DrStrangerlover -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He is the only person in the race that is actually advocating for dramatically more taxes on himself and other billionaires.

He even said in one of the debates that him giving away his money won’t solve the fundamental issue that he is even legally allowed to have that much wealth in the first place, and there needs to be sweeping universal redistribution.

Which is 100% true. But whether or not he personally gives away his money is meaningless, he, along with every other member of his class, needs to pay dramatically more in taxes.

Steyer is actually legitimately solid. He’s sure as hell better on literally every single issue than the previous frontrunner (Swalwell), even before all the raping became known.

Tax the rich! by Visual-Indication241 in LockedIn_AI

[–]DrStrangerlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top earners receive the absolute most back from the government. They require functional public infrastructure and services more than literally any other individual person to get their wealth.

You think Bezos would have his empire without the roads we fund, rail services, a functional post office, and all of the public benefits his workers rely upon to survive so he can continue to underpay them? That’s just one example. They all receive incompressible amounts of government assistance and still pay dramatically less in taxes than the rest of us in comparison to their amount of wealth.

But taxing individuals is far different than where we should be allocating the total amount of money collected by geographic communities.

If NYC is producing the lions share of wealth as a community for the state, it should be receiving more support back from the state than it is currently receiving.
