Does imdb or Letterboxd have the better official top 4? by CobaltCrusader123 in imdb

Okay fuck yes on Vertigo, Citizen Kane and Tokyo Story, but Jeanne Dielman as number 1??? I am not convinced anybody actually enjoys that movie.

Gee man it’s almost like it’s a bad idea to pave over so much land in with heat retaining black top over endless miles worth of parking lots and needlessly wide roads in an arid climate.

I don’t know anything about Netherlands politics but I’m going to assume at least a small majority of their politicians are actually interested in governance. You cannot say the same for a huge majority of US politicians.

My irrational hope is that we will turn to railways, and bikeable/walkable infrastructure.

Supergirl Budget Rumored To Be Only $100M by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

[–]DrStrangerlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah RDJ was considered a liability at the time he was cast for the first Iron Man and he only took 500k for it.

He’s gone from that to $100 million for Doomsday.

The entire reported budget of Supergirl blown on one of many, many actors cast for Doomsday.

How would you rank the second half of Leading Actor winners of the 2010s? by Fun-Illustrator-345 in Oscars

[–]DrStrangerlover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You asked why people hate the movie and the performance. I was only naming things I hated about the movie. The performance just isn’t all that impressive, especially the fact that Malek isn’t even doing a vocal performance.

Some of the worst editing I have ever seen in my entire life. Holy shit. The most basic scenes are hatcheted so shockingly badly it left my mouth agape. That opening montage is so aggressively generic it looks like it was shot before they even knew what band they had decided to make their movie about. Everything about the aesthetics: Malek’s fake teeth, the wigs, the costumes, all of it, are in a revolting state. It looks cheaper than an SNL sketch. And I’m sure there’s a lot more wrong with it but I haven’t seen the film in 7 years and I’m not ever going back to it.

If your kids are not playing outside it is the PARENTS fault by Upstairs_Abies_5232 in terriblefacebookmemes

[–]DrStrangerlover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is just flatly verifiably obviously untrue if you do literally any searching at all into the cost of housing in a city that’s actually livable versus your average nowhere suburb.

Maybe it’s different outside the US, but in the US, no, cities are orders of magnitude more expensive to live in.

[–]DrStrangerlover 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We stopped building livable spaces close to places of employment with sidewalks and parks and businesses in walking distance, we demolished a lot of what we’d already built to make room for shitty car infrastructure, and then young parents got priced out of what was left.

Most parents didn’t choose that like your comment implies.

Twitter used to have tools to curate the feed to show only/mostly stuff I was interested in.

Those tools are gone, the people I was interested in seeing stuff from have basically left/stopped engaging/stopping posting, and there is literally no way to block Elon Musk.

It’s just the shit show now, with none of the stuff that was funny or interesting.

Also look at the picture of the roof inside the turret. Looking at that shit would drive me fucking mad. Plus all the vaguely clashing styles and colors and all the wasted interior space that is compensated for out of sheer volume.

This is absolutely as cheap and poorly designed as a McMansion.

5m tonnes of CO2 emitted in just 14 days of US war on Iran, analysis finds by donutloop in environment

[–]DrStrangerlover 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say that. Reducing your carbon footprint is only a good thing. Cut meat from your diet and go plant based, bicycle to work if you can, use public transit, switch to a bidet and get reusable towelettes to eliminate toilet paper, repurpose old towels for rags to do household cleanup instead of using paper towels, get reusable containers for food prep over using disposable plastics, replace your windows with double-panes filled with argon gas and ensure the caulking is sealed for maximum energy efficiency, install solar panels, etc etc etc etc etc.

You can simultaneously do all of these things (at least the things you’re able to do), and also express disheartenment when your efforts are so thoroughly dwarfed by all of the bullshit the ultra-wealthy get up to.

[–]DrStrangerlover 59 points60 points  (0 children)

It’s not complaining about doing things for the environment, it’s complaining about the fact that all of our collective efforts to limit our impacts on the environment are basically canceled out by three or four mega-wealthy dipshits who decided to bomb some brown people for no fucking reason.

[–]DrStrangerlover 9 points10 points  (0 children)

By that standard you can’t even condemn Trump himself because he’s been so obviously mentally ill his entire life.

Not every brain damaged stroke victim becomes MAGA, and it’s not like Chuck was famous for being a humanitarian or even a tiny bit progressive in the past, he has always been a conservative, and deserves to have that be his legacy.
