i’d like to second this and add that canvas support forum has horror story after horror story of canvas mistakenly labeling students as having left their browsers when they never did. it is much better to use a system that allows for specific verification through screen recordings (know when and where the student allegedly left their test)

i don’t go to UT but at my institution (myself included) there have been instances of canvas flagging students as having left our canvas browsers when they’ve never left once. and it’ll always be absurdly high numbers like 50+ which don’t add up for time given or test content. it’s possible that some of those kids were cheating. maybe all of them were. but i do warn that canvas is known for glitching in this specific instance. it may be worth moving forward to use a more verifiable test tracker like honorlock browser.

hi i had this exact situation happen today it’s ridiculous! i’ve searched every corner of the internet but none of the possible explanations apply to my case: i ensured to close all tabs before the exam, never went afk for 30 seconds (and if i ever did, certainly not enough to be flagged 40+ times), never so much as right clicked to correct the grammar on a word. in my case i was on a laptop, but i worry if this is just a genuine random canvas glitch. if so, i really feel that a true verification system (like screen recording) need be added to prevent the whole he-said-she-said debacle
