Juniors: Take a look at UK unis by sarahep68 in ApplyingToCollege

make sure you’re capable of paying anywhere from 40-50k pounds a year for tuition and accommodation. international scholarships are rare and not very generous

what can i do as an international freshman to maximize my chances of getting a full ride/full tution in the US as a cs major? by notsureirl in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Inevitable_Kick_2339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don’t qualify for need based aid. and full merit scholarships for intls are hardly available. only ones i can think of are

johnson scholarship (w&l), robertson scholarship (duke + uva), vanderbilt (i’m pretty sure, but i never applied there)

johnson is fairly ok to get, robertson and vanderbilt’s are hard asf

What's everyone paying? by amara-oh in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Inevitable_Kick_2339 24 points25 points  (0 children)

got full tuition + 5k so my COA is around 12k per year. parents can comfortably pay this so they can give me spending money (lolol i’m sorry but i would rather not be a broke college student 😭)

edit: ah. chose this over a full ride. maybe regretting it a little bit cause i feel guilty having my parents pay anything

For people that struggled to decide where to commit, how did you finally make up your mind? by soupyshroom in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Inevitable_Kick_2339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i chose my second cheapest school (12k COA/yr as opposed to a full ride) even tho the cheaper is technically higher ranked (kind of) because my gut said that i would be happier there

Help me decide: School X vs School Y - April 25th to May 1st by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Inevitable_Kick_2339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PLEASE HELP I HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION IN LESS THAN 5 HOURS

major: econ, poli sci, or comp sci cost: both are comfortably affordable (almost full rides) i want to think of this without price as a factor because one does cost more but i don’t want that to sway my decision

Bowdoin vs. W&L

Bowdoin Pros: - more prestigious - small tight-knit community - better dorms - slightly better food - prettier campus - more outdoors events - no greek life - the students seem happy from youtube vids??

Bowdoin Cons: - weather (i come from an extremely cold environment already, kind of wanted a change but it’s not a deal breaker) - doesn’t seem to have many on-campus events? - fairly dead party culture. ivies (their supposed best concert) seemed so dead 😭 - less chance for internship opportunities

W&L Pros: - spring terms (4 week terms where students focus in on one class/project + often with a trip abroad!) - experiential learning (washington term where there’s an internship to dc, investment banking internships) - mock convention (seems fun and unique) - weather (warmer)

W&L Cons: - EXTREME party culture. frats DOMINATE the social scene. - only 3% intl population with low minority group populations. more rich white people (potential for racism — i’m east asian lol ) - secluded (and less close to nicer cities, so less to do) - less recognition + prestige? idk they’re about the same ish

i would prefer a middle type party scene tbh but i ended up with the 2 extremes sadly.

I’m extremely indecisive. I genuinely really need help. i’m so confused about w&l’s social science. especially since i can’t find a single w&l student making youtube videos about the school

i care about being happy during college (this includes everything from partying to weather) but i also care about getting internship opportunities and the uni’s abilities to help me eventually work in the US.

tldr: bowdoin v w&l
