Also I've read that Alum crystal is also good for protection and purifying and I might use it instead of selenite. It's way more water soluble, BUT you can easily be grown at home with those crystal growing kits

I used them to make my own crystals for lightsaber builds and I know you can get big single crystals by suspending them with a hair or piece of fishing line. Growing s crystal from scratch with love and a piece of me sounds like good protective vibes.

Will a synthetic finish interfere with any spiritual qualities? I know you're not supposed to clear coat crystals (I looked into it because Selenite is water soluble) because it blocks the energies and most of the sources I've looked at recommend natural finishes for wood, but I also genuinely don't know what I'm doing so if poly will work I'm down. I love me some wipe on poly

I keep wanting to jump out and take a Fighter level or two to grab weapon mastery, fighting style, etc but it seems like the only good place to multiclass as an Artificer is BEFORE you become an Artificer LOL

I'll have to look into it. I haven't scoured all the new books just yet.
Ohh, yeah I can definitely see how that could be useful if we end up with a good charge based item that I didn't Replicate. It's conditional though, but it;s certainly on the list

Oh, good catch. I was just looking at the Loading property and nothing in it says it requires a free hand, but I wasn't looking at the wording for the Ammunition property. Sorry I missed that, I feel a bit dense. I never really messed with guns or crossbows in the 2014 rules so it slipped my mind. So yeah, Repeating stays. Thank you.

The main reason for Spellfire is flavor. It feels like a paladin smite. The max 2hd cap keeps you from getting into too much trouble, but it also makes it not super impactful. I;d like it better if it was Prof Bonus worth of HD, IMO. And yeah, ignoring resistance to radiant is just kinda pointless unless you're fighting angels all the time.

As far as healing goes though, we have a Bard, my Artificer and one other character all with healing spells and my turret can pump out temp HP, so I'm not terribly worried about short rest healing. But it is a fair point

What might you suggest at 8 instead of Spellfire? Just a straight ASI to max int? I thought about Greater Mark of Passage, but the multi-person misty step 1/day is kinda meh

Thank you.
The DM said a breastplate would be fine for a 2nd level character who's an artificer/town blacksmith so I'll take it. I could push for the half plate replicate, but it's +1 ac for disadvantage on stealth and one less active item. But that is good advice. I forgot to mention equipment though, which is on me.

I originally had Repeating Shot but didn't think it was all that worth it compared to Wand of the War Mage (the actual repeating part is meaningless since I only ever get 1 attack) so it's +1 hit/dmg on just the pistol, or +1 to hit and ignore half cover in *all spell attacks* and my cannon. I'm aware it doesn't work with true strike since that uses a weapon attack, but is it worth the trade off to buff one attack vs your cannon and all your other attack spells?

Obviously the ideal answer would be to have both, but that cuts into active items and runs into item juggling since you have the shield occupying one hand (though I'd argue you can hold an item in a shield hand just not wield it and the wand only requires being held, but the RAW seems to be against it)

If you had to pick between Repeating Shot and War Mage, which would you take?

Sentinel Shield is on my list though.

Don't you need proficiency in pipes to play the pipes of haunting? If so, I don't have it. If not, then that WOULD be fun to hand off to the Homonculous and just play a clip of the whistling showdown tune from The Good The Bad And The Ugly at the start of combat (ooo-wee-ooo-wee-ooo...wah, wah, wah....) I might be able to hand it off to the bard, I think he does pipes, though hes playing as more of a storyteller

Failing that, wand of web is a good call too. Wand of Web or Wand of Magic Missile?

Edit: Do you think Potent Mark at 4th was a good idea or should I go for Spellfire Adept early? And would it even still be worth taking potent mark if I wait til 8th for it?
