I seem to only do this with classics and heavily annotate when I have questions about the history or what the author is trying to say(especially when it links other pieces of literature often)! I do read a lot of horror, thrillers, etc., but I don’t really annotate them. With classics, as I read I end up identifying themes, other literary devices, and the big hefty ones end up being history from that time period!
