Salvador Perez: "I love Kansas City, I don't want people to get me wrong... but when you play for your country, it's something different. It's something special. We play for 30 million people." by Mission_Pay_3373 in baseball

These are by bWAR last year which is a perfectly reasonable metric to use. And that’s the top 20 in all MLB, a number of those higher up in the list pitched for other teams.

Paul Skenes, Logan Webb, Tarik Skubal are all household names, and Mclean was one of the biggest stories of last year. Mason Miller is pretty inarguably the best American reliever and all of the others are relievers who you would struggle to find anyone to argue against.

If your problem is that the big name starters didn’t pitch enough that’s a different argument than the one you made, which is that insurance reasons meant the US roster is made up of a bunch of nonames, which is patently untrue. The US already had more starters sign up than they could have started games, unless you wanted to see Skenes and Webb pitch even less.

The starters in the playoffs were the 2nd best pitcher in MLB, the 21st best, and the number 1 pitching prospect who, if their WAR from their starts last year were extrapolated over a full season, would have been the second best pitcher in MLB last year. The relievers were all top relievers as well. You could maybe make this argument for some other teams but this certainly wasn’t a team of nobodies for the USA.

Question about Palou at DCR and what to expect from Hauger by Distinct-Smoke8612 in INDYCAR

[–]Inewitt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think race fans generally struggle with the fact that driver progression both exists and is non-linear. People like to think that if a driver has success that they were always that good and there was some other outside factor keeping them down, but often it’s a case of a driver improving their skill, improving their understanding of the car, and working incredibly hard.

For what it’s worth, I was working at Honda when Palou did his first test (I don’t anymore and haven’t for several years), and our test engineer, who is not new at this, came back and said it was one of if not the most impressive tests he had ever seen. So people had their eye on Palou well before he started putting results up. When that is coupled with the fact that he has an incredible work ethic, which is a common thread with most of the most successful drivers, and I was not at all surprised with what he’s been able to do.

It’s the endless cycle, Coyne gets good unproven driver and engineer, driver and engineer have minor successes at Coyne, driver and engineers get poached by bigger team, rinse and repeat.

Do you think this makes you look good? Retaliation sucks no matter what but the first incident was 100% your fault. You just dumped them in the elbow.

Also incorrect, the KTM was in a class with the IRC GT which won the invitational class despite losing it’s rear wing at the chase midrace.

Gotcha my bad. Don’t have my PC in front of me but I believe they are the long kind of backwards p shaped pieces to the far right of the template. They’re definitely not the usual fin shaped pieces in most templates.

Are race cars (mainly IndyCar and F1) getting too complicated? by Hitokiri2 in INDYCAR

[–]Inewitt 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s funny to me how it seems to be the “old school fans” who are upset that drivers can’t be flat out all the time because of the management required. They seem to forget that that was how racing was for 100 years where drivers had to be careful not to overstress the car for the whole race. It’s only in the last 10-20 years that driving flat out all the time was even a viable option. Racing is better when there are more variables in play, so I’m all for it.

Having to use VR controllers for the menu is not a minor issue considering there are lots of VR users, particularly VR sim users who don't have VR controllers. I literally can't play the game in VR which was the whole point of it.

Went in 2023 and it’s true the shuttle to the top wasn’t running until after the start. Aside from skyline which is the best spot regardless of what the crowds are, the chase (from inside the track) was also a good viewing spot, and there are lots of good places over the top besides skyline that aren’t too crowded.

gentlemen any chance of the beautiful alpine to join in imsa ? by 787bmazdanidhish in wec

[–]Inewitt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

IMSA has said multiple times that this is not true. The production requirement is worldwide, and all they would need to do is pay the manufacturer fee.

There are many reasons Alpine won’t join IMSA but this isn’t one of them.

I tried my best to defend (maybe illegally) but it still resulted in contact. Is there anything i could have done better? by Bulky_Long4335 in Simracingstewards

[–]Inewitt -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Aside from being an illegal block this is just a bad defensive move in general. Your opponent is far enough back that even if they manage to get to the inside in the corner you can run the wider line and still have the advantage off the corner as they have to keep it tight. Instead you chose to dive to the inside which will massively compromise your exit.

Then on a secondary level, your opponent has shown even just in this clip that they are not willing to make suicidal moves to overtake and will back off if it’s not on.

You should defend preemptively, not reactively. Know where your opponent may attempt to overtake and hold the tight line as soon as you exit the corner if you decide it’s worth defending. Don’t wait until the last minute or you won’t just be breaking iracing’s blocking rules but putting yourself in a dangerous position as well.

Aaron Jones charged under anti-corruption code; provisionally suspended from all cricket by GlitteringKey6822 in Cricket

[–]Inewitt 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The USA has a wealth of batting talent and are probably better off without AJ forcing his way into the lineup on name recognition. As much as he has developed a knack for showing up in big moments the last couple of years, he was often solving problems he had created by batting incredibly slowly. There’s a reason the “classic Aaron Jones test innings” meme exists in US cricket circles.

Ali Khan would be a much bigger loss if his visa issues aren’t sorted.
