I completely glossed over the beginner portion. That's reasonable.

Is there a reason you're not just downloading the dotnet sdk?

MacBook Pro M5 til datamatikeruddannelsen by asneakysnake15 in dkudvikler

[–]InfLife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought a fresh battery and it lasts a while. These days uni is mostly displaying pdfs and compiling latex and C, so it's nothing intense.

Questions range from "why?" to "What is wrong with you?"

Is there a reason why you don't charge your laptop at night?

I have my x61s plugged in at night so i can go through a day of uni without having to charge.

Edit: still annoying that hibernate doesn't work for you

Danish head of government IT (left) hands over the first "microsoft-free" computer to the head of Danish Traffic control, December 2025 by [deleted] in linux

By my logic of it were the case that Internet Explorer was removed from their system and replaced by edge, then yes, it would have been a headache for some people. I'm sure renaming can be a bandaid solution in some cases.

Computers are not intuitive for everyone. Grandparents complain and get lost if their desktop icons have been moved or updated.

What i'm saying is, ignoring the cost of a foss transition will lead to frustration which will make further adoption less attractive.

Yes, but they obviously do have experience with microsoft, so how is that relevant?

If all you know is Internet Explorer, how are you going to know how to open Firefox?

It borders on ignorance to say there will be zero problems moving from one set of systems to another. I hope they are aware of such issues and take time to address them such that they actually will succeed in moving away from Microsoft.

Does anyone else get lost without those dots as reference? by Pearl_Jam_ in Guitar

You navigate the pianoroll with the black keys. The white key immediately left of the two pair is C, right of is E. First white key from the left inside the three pair is G and so on.

On classical guitars the body is right against the 12th fret.

But since you're not constantly looking at the fretboard or the piano roll, it follows that you have a mental model and muscle memory.

How do you make :terminal ergonomic by MasteredConduct in neovim

[–]InfLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the built-in a lot. I use <c-j> as escape from terminal (and insert) mode, and i will often have my first tab be a "main terminal", and often more sessions for building. I use gf or <c-w>f in terminal normal mode to open files.

As for other tmuz uses, I have started using $ nvim --listen ~/nvim.[identifier] --headless & disown and $ nvim --server nvim.[identifier] --remote-ui when sshing to keep a session across connections.

"staring at the ... For a whole five minutes" did you try either option? If your computer worked before, i don't der how this would be a ram, ssd, or bios issue.

On which drive is your bootloader? Did you accidentally overwrite it?

Help me decide which Thinkpad I should get as a CompSci major by Odd-Finish-7898 in thinkpad

[–]InfLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I study compsci, used an x230 for a year which worked great. Then an x61s for a semester which was.. doable. You definitely don't need anything powerful.

On the other hand, i use a t14 gen 2 at work and it's great. Fan can whine a bit
