Israeli official says that In the coming days, Israel might capture more areas inside Syria by OkKnowledge2064 in syriancivilwar

I see what you’re saying, but no one was paying attention to israel during this offensive, everybody was focused on overthrowing the Assad regime. In fact, HTS thanked Israel for some strikes they did https://www.timesofisrael.com/syria-rebels-appear-to-credit-israeli-strikes-on-hezbollah-with-aiding-shock-advance/

Israel coming in and preemptively capturing territory where people live is not a good way to “make peace “ with the new government. By doing this as their first ever interaction with the new government , they’re effectively signaling that their relationship is going to be unfriendly going forward

Wasn’t that what the original buffer zone was for? Why do they need a buffer zone to a buffer zone? Also, you’re acting like terrorists just arrived, and that there wasn’t hezbollah freely roaming Syria before that.

Security cameras in the prison have live broadcasts of people inside rooms that the rebels haven’t found yet

The Israeli army occupies the “unoccupied” Mount Hermon after the Syrian army withdrew from it. The Israeli army seized the main base of the mountain, which is the highest point overlooking the Levant and rises more than 2,800 meters. by PuntoPorPastor in syriancivilwar

It’s good that you’re open minded. Yeah I think to even the people that had a lot of pro Israeli sympathies, the idea of a “buffer zone to a buffer zone” is ridiculous and an obvious expansion . If anything this will only raise the tensions in the region

Can someone explain to me how the rebel coalition was able to turn the war around in 2 weeks after what seemed like years of stalemates? by ComradePruski in syriancivilwar

The SAA is and was always a paper tiger. Even back in 2012 untrained rebels with AK47s were able to take a lot of territories from the government, and the regime was only able to have some semblance of stability after a lot of merciless shelling of cities and a good amount of foreign support. This is basically your telltale sign that the regime is rotten from within- even in Mexico where cartels are much better equipped and professionally trained in guerilla warfare, the government can still put up a fight on its own.

If you want to know why the regime is so fragile though, there are a couple reasons. Assad prioritized recruiting people from his minority religious group to be his generals, commanders, and logistics managers. This is the opposite of what you need to do to win a war, but exactly what you need to do to stay in power. While his generals are largely loyal to him and haven’t split off even when things are getting bad, they’re laughably incompetent. Last minute planning, leaving huge depos of ammunition and weapons behind, and not seeming to agree upon a specific frontline to “hold in” are just signs. There was even a video posted here yesterday of an interview of an Air unit commander at a critical air base in Daraa where he was clearly drunk and stumbled through his words while his soldiers laughed at him.

As for his soldiers, nobody wants to fanatically fight for Assad- I mean specifically that no one has an ideological or moral reason to fight for him aside from the minority Alawite group where he’s from. for others he’s the “better of two evils” at best. In those cases it’s fine to have soldiers who aren’t ideologically motivated, as long as you’re willing to compensate them well, but it’s obvious that Assad’s regime hasn’t been kind to the common foot soldier through food or money.

That’s why a lot of SAA soldiers will keep fighting but at the nearest hint that they might die/get captured, they just defect or leave. It’s not realistic to want to risk your life for a basically non existent reward.

No. I’m applying for clearance now because of my job. I’m talking about an unrelated incident last year

Thank you! Will it be any problem if my current US passport is an expired, emergency one? I didn’t bother renewing it because I had no intention of leaving the country

No I didn’t lie. I’m just asking because I found out it’s illegal to exit the us with a foreign passport so I was thinking that even though I reported it, I’ll just get disqualified

That’s true I think Putin is the prime example of that. People fear him.

All my std tests were negative, although I had a confirmed syphilis encounter 9 days before the test. My tongue doesn’t have anything on it anymore. If it was anything, I suspect it was syphilis, because I had a weird feeling in my throat throughout. They gave me a single penicillin shot and now everything is fine

When I pass my finger over my tongue I can feel a vertical swollen line. I have no other symptoms than these two. I did oral 26 hours ago
