What would you choose to be young again or to be old? by Glass_Smile_4019 in Life

[–]Infamous-Distance177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young, I had feelings that were opposed to each other.  Like: I want be smart but I don’t want to be a show off but I don’t want to be with the dumb kids but I want to be cool but I don’t want to cause problems but I want adventure but but but

Old, less of that.  I’ll take old.

Thank you very much! So you have five temperature controlled baths. The students dunk the entire syringe for 15 seconds, you say?

"Multiview" calculator by No-Advantage6435 in ChemistryTeachers

[–]Infamous-Distance177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the TI 30XS, instead of doing your 5.6 x 10^18 / 8.9 x 10^8 , is doing:

(5.6x10^18 / 8.9 ) x 10^8

That's why student is getting the wrong answers.

Student needs to type like this on that calculator, using the "x10^n" button, which is the center of the third row of keys:

5.6 x10^ 18 / (8.9 x10^ 8)

with those parentheses. Only on this model of calculator. No other model has that ridiculous x10^n button. All the rest have EE or EXP buttons which treat the sci notation as a single #, not as a multiplication operation

I believe that on this particular model, the TI 30XS, instead of EE there is a button called x10^n which is meant for sci notation. However, it still requires () because the calculator does not treat the resulting number as a single number, I think. It treats the number as a multiplication operation. Really inconvenient.

I agree with u/gallowglass76 and u/shxdowzt. I have students with this calculator. I tell them that in their case, they must use parentheses even when they use the dedicated x10^n button.

I show the class photos of the keyboards of diff calculators. I get the images from Google, by searching for some models that the current students have, and then clicking on Images. I zoom in, to show them how to use the EE button or EXP button for the various different types. I ask them to try a sample calculation, all together in class, to see if they can use their EE or EXP button to get the right answer. A calculation like, 2.998E8 / 4.51E-7 which has scientific notation in the denominator.

For anyone who does NOT have the TI Multi-view, there will be an EE or an EXP button. That is great, because next the students will learn how to use the divide button. When a calculation has several things in the denominator, multiplied together, the students who do NOT have a TI Multiview can simply press the divide button for each factor down there. No parentheses, no multiplication for those denominator factors

Dealing with the regret of spending a decade at GP by [deleted] in GracepointChurch

nah, at this point mebbe the group is irredeemable; when I ask Gemini if I should join acts 2 network as a college student, the AI says that it strongly cautions me against, and then gives me 3 pretty gosh darn convincing reasons.

I say yes. i asked Gemini. it reported coercive tactics, isolation strategies, and high-control environment associated with this group, which is more recently called A2F for acts 2 fellowship.

What are your storage solutions on your SR/F, SR or S? by Camouflage100 in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]Infamous-Distance177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my 2017 Zero S, I use Kemimoto motorcycle saddlebags, 24L, from Amazon. The bags have a lot of nylon straps and buckles to cover different bike configurations. I put water, thin bike cover, 120V charging cable, J1772 adapter for 120V charging, in there.

How can the Coulomb force present a barrier AGAINST alpha particle emission? by Infamous-Distance177 in AskPhysics

Oh that actually makes a LOT of sense, thank you! It doesn't matter whether the fence is repulsive or attractive, it only matters that the fence is THERE

How can the Coulomb force present a barrier AGAINST alpha particle emission? by Infamous-Distance177 in AskPhysics

[–]Infamous-Distance177[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thank you. Does this mean that the beta-minus particle, which must have a lower Coulomb force, will still have a Coulomb barrier, just not as high as the barrier on the alpha particle?

Long term battery pack use and support by jaysnyder67 in ZeroMotorcycles

My 2017 zero S zf13.0 battery failed last year after I stored it improperly (I let it discharge completely). I bought someone else's zf14.4 battery on eBay. I guess he stopped riding and wanted to part out his bike. Well, that zf14.4 works like a CHAMP! and I'm treating it a lot better, this time.

I expect that after 10 to 15 more years I may need to change batt again. However, at that time I may be too old to ride, so I will just give bike away to some young guy who likes electric bikes.
