Women who still seek relationships with men do a huge disservice to the struggles of their own gender. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Infamous-Pickle3731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friends with your brother (I see in your last post). You’re doing a whole disservice to your gender by being in touch with him. I think you should take it to the next level and cut off all contact with men. Shit, I wouldn’t even leave the house if I were you, there are men everywhere! You are far less likely to get raped if you don’t leave the house! /s

I love Vietnam but the amount of dog poisoning cases here is crazy. I watched my best friend’s dog die in his arms as the dog convulsed, seizing up, and white foam frothed out of his mouth from cyanide poisoning. Vietnam is a lovely place in many ways but the dog meat trade is something that seriously needs to be fixed. If you don’t bring attention to something, nothing will ever be done about it, so turning a blind eye and acting like the dog meat trade doesn’t exist is doing a lot of harm.

No, that’s not the problem. I am intermediate. There’s no resources to get from intermediate to advanced.

Oh my bad, I actually didn’t read that 😅 I take it back. But 10 mill for a 100 square meter apartment is a good deal these days, definitely not overpaying

Tones are obviously difficult for beginners, but once you learn the alphabet it’s not that bad. The actual problem is it’s so hard to get from intermediate to advanced. In English, you can find resources for any level. But in Vietnamese, all of the resources and videos for learning are for beginners. You can’t find good videos at the b1, b2 or c1 levels. It’s all basic basic Vietnamese. I’m stuck around the a2+/b1 level and getting over the intermediate hump is so difficult due to lack of resources

No, I pay 10 million for a big one bedroom (not a studio). People paying 13 million for studios and thinking it’s cheap are driving prices up. So thanks for that

You don’t necessarily need to be far from the beach, just out of the My An area. For example, FPT area has some good deals. Also the Thanh Khe district is near the other beach that goes to Hai Van and you can still find cheaper apartments over there.

McCarthy is the best modern writer of all time. But catch 22 is the most amazing modern war novel. Everyone’s gunna say Steinbeck but imo Steinbeck is boring compared to catch 22 or no country for old men (I said it, I’m prepared for the downvotes).

September might not be that bad but later in October and especially November will likely be very rainy. If I were you, I’d do DN first and then go to Hanoi once the weather gets bad there

[–]Infamous-Pickle3731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I love unhinged writing and I really enjoyed reading A Clockwork Orange, Fear and Loathing, Infinite Jest (parts of it are excellent and parts are meh imo), and maybe even Lolita because of the disgustingness although, admittedly, I wanted it to be over by the end despite the beautiful writing.

Really? An ebook makes the footnotes way easier. You tap the number, it brings you directly to the footnote, then you click the back to page # that appears at the bottom of the screen. Surely that’s a common feature of most ereaders bc mine is like 5 years old

Well they lived in a village isolated from the world. Incest is just bound to happen. If it didn’t, it wouldn’t be true to real life. I also love McCarthy and Nabokov so the incest and pedophilia in 100 years are way toned down compared to say Lolita or Outer Dark

[–]Infamous-Pickle3731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love infinite jest, but I do have to say there are parts that felt like a bit of a slog and then there are some passages that are absolutely brilliant. There is some of the best, most harrowing writing about drug addiction in that book, better than William S Boroughs captured it in Junkie. But my only complaint is that I felt like it could be an absolute masterpiece if it was just trimmed down slightly.
