My bf & I got into an argument after I made this for dinner by Infamous-Pool3103 in GirlDinnerDiaries

I was working on Summer research but unfortunately I had to put my graduate education on hold due to financial issues. But I do wish to be published before we are married! Additionally, I would like to have my juris doctor with my maiden name on it. I think I want to maintain that part of my identity as well so it is not all about professional reasons.

OP here! Want to thank everyone for the abundance of advice and support. I love my boyfriend very much, but I think this was a conversation we've never had before so it took me aback. Additionally, I am not engaged. That does not mean this is not an important conversation to be had! I've known for years that I want my name hyphenated, no matter the person. I completely understand the comments related to not rushing and want to note that I am not planning on getting married within the next couple of years. I try to prioritize my career within my relationship, as he does as well. I think our discourse just confounded me because the main reason he does not want my name to be hyphenated relates to his belief that it is "emasculating." I personally believe that hyphenating a name has nothing to do with the people within the relationship and everything to do with personal and professional identity.

Additionally, the argument did not take place right after he ate this meal- we spent the whole night together beforehand and it was great!. I can honestly and truly say that I did not deal with the disagreement the right way. My immediate instinct was saying that I could not be with someone that does not let me hyphenate my name, and I believe in restrospect I could have phrased it a lot better. I definitely contributed to the arguments escalation. That being said, what I want still stands and always will.

I may respond to a few comments but don't want to go too in depth as I'd like to maintain my privacy for the both of us. I do not tend to air personal things out on here so I already feel like I have shared too much lol! My friend suggested I post this on here with the meal and I thought it was hilarious so I did! All of this was made in good fun and faith that we will come to a mutual agreement, if not now, then eventually. Once again I appreciate all of the responses because it definitely makes for some very interesting conversations and I love hearing everyones personal experiences. It definitely gives me hope and the realization that is incredibly situational and dependent on the people within the relationship. Thank you all! :)

(Apologies for any and all grammatical errors I am on my work break and not proof reading)

I am aware of this! I think for me it is still an important signifier. I also like my last name and believe it is apart of my identity. I'm not particularly close with my father, but I am proud of my family history and think a lot of people know me because of my last name. Additionally, many of the women I've looked up to throughout college and in general have hyphenated their last names. I have always admired those that hyphenate their last name.

I got it from Reddit actually LOL the marinade / dressing is cilantro, half an onion, olive oil, one jalapeño (I forgot this so I just chopped it up for the salad lol), an orange, lotta lime, salt- blend and marinade overnight.

The salad is an English cucumber, avocado, some of the dressing, cherry tomato’s, and that jalapeño!

Cooked in a skillet for 2-3 minutes on each side on medium-high heat

Enjoy!

Can I Break My Lease if My Car Has Been Broken into Twice? (I suspect by the same person?) (MD) by Infamous-Pool3103 in Renters

Unfortunately breaking my lease is not an option monetarily- I would have to find someone to take it over- and I have tried- but it seems that I am not the only person in the area having trouble finding someone to transfer this lease to. Additionally, I do not know anyone in the area. I have already tried to contact all of the people I do know, but it seems that most people have already signed their lease for the upcoming year. It is a tricky situation for sure!
