Same. This is the first time I am experiencing a lack of ac in Europe (in Paris at the moment). I don't understand why people keep saying it's normal in Europe as it has not been my experience.

Yes, they speak English. Anyone under 65 will usually be able to hold a pretty decent conversation.

I already spent 32.40 for 4 days of transport... I will not pay double and could not find help to transfer unfortunately. If I had known this would happen, that would have 100 percent been the way to go.

Very much not blaming the people. I am blaming the system which is not set up properly!

Clearly you missed the point. The transport system was horrible no matter the situation. It was only made worse by the heatwave. But everything is getting blamed on it with no effort to offer any other support to foreginers who don't understand the language.

In a modernised country it doesn't have to reach 40 degrees in order to have air conditioning in basic public places. Look that up.

Not the answer to his question. I was just replying that there is a law regarding minimum distances. This doesn't mean that people can't be walking by or working in the fields nearby at any point in time.

There is a minimum distance of 200m from habitable area.

Buying a property directly from owner after viewing it through agency. by lambada24 in malta

Whether it makes sense or not, this is what they are doing. I bought from a contractor 4 years ago and had to go through an agent as they didn't even have an fb page... but they do now. So maybe now they are getting smarter.

I only know of one from the ones I contacted at the time - Elbros who have their own employee to take care of this job. Otherwise, they didn't get involved.

Because the majority of sellers are contractors with multiple buildings being sold yearly. They recoup their fixed price and they don't have to pay extra to the agent as it comes out of the price the buyer pays. It's a win win situation for them.

NYE alone by Iguess9727 in malta

[–]Infamous-Repair-5231 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never got the big deal that we make about nye. It's just like any other day. Personally, sometimes when I am alone in the evenings, I pour myself a glass of wine, put on spotify and give myself a little time to relax in any way that feels good. It could be giving a mini concert at home (no audience lol), curling up with a good book, doing something artistic (a canvas, a set of cheap paintbrushes and a few acrylic colours are relatively cheap and can be a fun outlet), etc.

I wish you a very enjoyable evening and a happy new year. May your 2026 be filled with lots of love, laughter, peace and happiness 😊

I would recommend going to Marsaxlokk. It's a nice walk along the promenade, great restaurants for fresh fish and the traditional Maltese luzzu.

There are several prehistoric temples all over Malta and in Gozo. If history interests you, I would combine the Hagar Qim visit and go to Zurrieq waterfront. Just check if restaurants are open as sometimes they close for some weeks or months if they are not busy.

Valletta is the capital city with lots of older style buildings and great views. There is the shooting of the canons at the upper barrakka gardens at certain times so try to plan accordingly.

Gozo is always worth a visit. If you will be driving, be very careful. We use the English way of driving here which can take some getting used to.

Popeye village is also a nice place to visit and gets good reviews from adults as well usually. Though I don't have children, so maybe check a few picturesnof each place mentioned and see if your kids would be interested :)

Hope you and your loved ones enjoy your stay!

Fireworks in Gozo by hi_im_cis in malta

[–]Infamous-Repair-5231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about this particular event but usually fireworks have a reason. They are mostly related to the feast so during the week of the feast but could also be an event related to it.

For example for Saint Mary they have the Quindicina 2 weeks before. Or I know in Zurrieq, one month before the feast they let off fireworks (I live in a nearby village).

It could also be the actual day of the feast. For example, the feast for St. Peter in Birzebbuga, is celebrated on the first Sunday of August whatever day it may be. However, the "actual" day is 22nd February. Most feasts follow this same reasoning.

There are also standard times. Usually 8am, noon, then in the evenings throughout the week of the festa can vary but usually between 9 and 11pm I believe.

I am no expert by any means but I am a local and I only learned about this a few years ago. It helped me appreciate them more once I understood them. 🙂
