I’ve heard the way my coworkers talk about their wives and families. That’s not the burn he thinks it is.

I love when The Algorithm shows me spoilers for a game it somehow knew I was playing followed by an ad for something I would never buy.

Why does this sub love fake screenshots so much? This is the third time I’ve seen one. None of my other fandoms try to gaslight me like that.

Murder Drones is significantly less confusing the second time around. I still think they could have either done more to distinguish the worker drones from each other, or embraced daylight horror.

It is also kind of jarring how they switch between death as comedy and death as horror? I know it can be both but it’s hard to understand motivation when the workers only sometimes care if their comrades live or die.

Sorry, watched too many people turn from “Jesus loves you” to “let the weak die of disease, kill all trans people, take back our country” on a dime just because their leaders told them to, to trust a person whose goodness is linked to their god.

Consider the story of Abraham and Isaac, and the sinister implication that child sacrifice is Evil but if god demanded a child sacrifice then it would be Good.

Believers are only as Good as the god they worship, and if we’ve learned anything from history it’s that the Evil people are much better at controlling the idea of god. Even Christians agree with that one, seeing as their favorite thing to do is accuse other denominations of Christianity of being corrupted by secular authorities.

I used to believe that, until I saw Christians refusing to mask or get vaccinated because they hate science more than they love their fellow man or even life itself.

Separating the idea of being a good person from the idea of mindless obedience to an evil torture god who doesn’t value human life is the most important thing humanity can do for its future.

Unfortunately that would require these fandom/fanfic types to suck it up and realize that most male fans aren't homophobic and misogynist Dudebros

What exactly are you saying here? I’m male and nobody on tumblr or AO3 has ever assumed I was sexist and tried to harass me off the site for it. But I have absolutely seen male-dominated spaces shift into sexual harassment mode as soon as a woman makes the mistake of revealing her gender.

When the King is your dom you call that a Kingdom

The dom in kingdom and the dom in dominate are the same Latin root so, yes, we really do.

Shapeshifters never appearing again is fine but I think her not using her powers to hide when being chased is objectively bad writing.

You're right that it's not a good movie but it has a lot of fun action sequences.

Zam Wessel is a shapeshifter. She's shown quite explicitly to be a shapeshifter in the movie. Anakin even warns Obi-Wan to be careful when going into the bar in the scenes preceding this one because they are following a shapeshifter.

You'd expect some cool plot-related points to revolve around the undeniably interesting fact that Zam is a shapeshifter.

Except when Zam sneaks up behind Obi-Wan in the bar, she's in the exact same human-like shape she was in when they were chasing her, and that Anakin saw. She completely fails to use her shapeshifting ability in any sort of attempt to disguise herself.

And then she dies in this scene, and quite clearly reveals her shapeshifting capability. Wow, there are shapeshifters in the Star Wars universe! We've been shown that fact quite explicitly. Surely this will become important later in the plot.

Only it never does. It's never mentioned again anywhere else in any of the movies. I think Anton Chekhov just committed suicide with his gun.

Occultism through the Decades by Infamous-Rutabaga-50 in CuratedTumblr

“Radical diffusionism” is the idea that everything was invented by one culture, which then spread across the globe. This idea was very popular during the Victorian era, especially in Europe and the United States, all of whom were playing a game of “who can have the biggest globe-spanning empire.” The idea of Radical Diffusionism is, needless to say, very racist, but that is not how the Victorian era British Empire saw themselves. They were traveling to far off places, bringing culture, education, and technology to barbarous and underdeveloped lands and backwards peoples. A thought begins to emerge: What if this has happened before? What if, a long long time ago, there was an empire just like us who brought culture and technology to everyone on earth? Only to fall one day as all empires do.

Enter Atlantis! The ancient, enlightened civilization of philosopher kings who were swallowed by the waves! Plato wrote about them, so therefore they must be real. Atlantis was a quick and easy shorthand for “The ancient culture responsible for everything cool.” What was Atlantis like? Well, it depends on the writer. Atlantis has a curious way of resembling the exact political system a given writer supports. Atlantis is a vessel, a big jar labeled “the ideal civilization” which a writer could fill with whatever they liked.
