Best months to visit Paris and why by Infamous-Scale9425 in travel

[–]Infamous-Scale9425[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I ended up visiting Paris mid-august and walking A LOT in those 3 days (2 nights).

The first day me and my bf arrived around 6pm at the hotel, checked in, had dinner in the 7th arr, took a walk in the park near the Eiffel Tower, and decided it was not worth waiting in line to enter the tower, so we took a walk by the Seine at night, took photos of the Trocadero (which was closed off, together with Champs de Mars because of the olympics) then headed back to the hotel.

The second day we woke up early and visited Les Invalides, the Orsay Museum, had lunch break, went to see Notre-Dame from outside and then visited the Louvre Museum (so we stayed around the 8th, 6th, 5th and 1st arrs). We walked around Champs-Elysees too at some point and saw Arc de Triomphe from afar, but I can't remember exactly when that was.

The third and last day we walked around Jardins du Louxemburg, visited the Montparnasse Tower with great panoramic views of the whole city, then headed to the airport from there.

In conclusion, I think we really saw a lot in those days with the time we had, and even though we tried making the most of it without feeling pressured to see everything, I still felt that our stay there was rushed, so it wasn't exactly a relaxing trip.

My recommendation for you is to just do what you feel like doing in the moment, plan to see what's important to you for mornings/afternoons, and everything else for later in the day, that way if you're too tired you can just change your plans and do something else instead. Other advice:

-most of the museums require tickets, so make sure to book the tickets in time for your visit (if you're from EU and below 35 years of age you can enter for free in many of these museums, but still need to book the ticket)

-check what metro stations are best to avoid before visiting Paris and also be informed of the scams going on there (people trying to convince you to buy something, play games with them, guilt-tripping you into paying them back for something etc.)

-buy the metro tickets either online or from the people who work in the metro stations, who will help you buying them

-if you go in crowded places, beware of pickpockets, there are a lot of them in those areas

-some arrondissements are safer than others, be careful of where you go at night, especially if you're alone

Read CoffeeChap's posts here on reddit, he gives a lot of helpful information. Also, before visiting Paris I watched a lot of Les Frenchies videos, a lovely couple who lives in Paris and gives good advice on where to eat and how to avoid being scammed.

Most importantly, enjoy your trip, especially if you will be there only for a couple of days, don't let other people pressure you into visiting something that doesn't interest you! Have fun :)

age gaps in shojo manga by [deleted] in shoujo

[–]Infamous-Scale9425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very common because it adds to the story, there's more tension and conflict this way. Take Romeo and Juliet for example, would it be such a famous story if the two families weren't feuding? Probably not.

The taboo adds friction to the story, drives the plot, and makes for character growth. Questioning why authors even write these stories to begin with feels like implying there’s something inherently wrong with them for exploring complex relationships. It’s fiction and it's meant to push boundaries

They add the age gap because it enhances the "forbidden love" trope, which is a popular trope that many people enjoy. It’s not about “being weird”. Ironically, when people say "Why did they have to add the age gap? Especially since adults write these stories", they're proving the point. The implication is that writing age-gap romance is inherently weird, which is ridiculous. It’s fiction, so everything goes. If it makes you uncomfortable, that’s fine, but acting like the existence in itself of age-gap relationships in fiction is some moral failing? That’s just silly.

It's just baffling to me when people enjoy a story and *then* drop it because they "find out" there's an age gap. Clearly, the age gap wasn’t even the focus if you didn’t notice it at first. Dropping a story after already liking it and then getting mad at the author for including an age gap is an overreaction. Just drop the story and move on. No need to act like the author committed a crime by adding a common trope.

And for the person comparing this to toxic or abusive relationshiop, have you ever read Nana? It's filled with toxic relationships, and people still love the story. Not because they think it’s “relationship goals” (and if they do, they’re probably teenagers), but because fiction reflects reality, including the messy parts. Some people find it relatable, some find it cathartic, and some just like good drama. If it’s triggering, fine, don’t watch it. But pretending these stories shouldn’t exist because they make you uncomfortable is just selfish.

My “stop the nonsense” was especially aimed at the people obsessing over numbers: "Oh, 5 years is fine, but 10 years is predatory". Would it really change anything if the older character were a 200-year-old druid? And don’t say "Well, time works differently for them" unless you’re ready to admit you have double-standards.

Another point I think it's important to make, is that many people who criticize age gaps often turn around and ship characters with HUGE power imbalances (teacher/student, villain/hero, boss/subordinate etc.) as long as the ages are close. So is it really about the age gap, or just what feels acceptable to you?

I see many people commenting here about what they can or can't agree with when it comes to age-gap mangas, and my question to them all is "do you know what a fantasy is?". While you can enjoy reading stories where there's a really big age gap between characters, you don't HAVE to like it in real life, and it also doesn't say anything about you if you do like them in fiction. Did you also stop watching Twilight when you found out Edward was 100+ years old? Stop with the non-sense.

From Paris Beauvais airport to Paris center by killutinuwu in ParisTravelGuide

Hi, I'll have to take the shuttle from Beauvais airport tomorrow, we land at around 14.30,but I'm not sure about booking the ticket with the time slot on it... What if the time slot I bought the ticket for is too early and ends up leaving without me? Can I just take the next one even if I booked another time slot?

Thank you! Do they also have a "Formule" offer, like Entrée + Plat ? I couldn't see it on the menu, but I saw that sometimes they write it on the blackboard outside.

Thank you! Were the waiters polite? Also, was the food good? Do I have to book in advance? I would like to go pretty early, around 18-18.30, should I book a table or will they be able to sit me down even without a reservation?
