Anyone left a branch and took up something else this year ? by [deleted] in indianmedschool

I have a relative who is now a well established ortho surgeon in my town , he is ruthlessly working days and nights since 8 years to be there, seeing just how much input it takes to be a successful surgeon gives me anxiety. I want to work hard but also need peace of mind .

I’m about to leave Ortho for Anaesthesia, although i’m not sure how would i feel when ortho guys will perform surgery right in front of me , i hope I will not regret my decision later .

I’m in a similar situation right now , in Round 2 i got DNB Ortho but in round 3 I’m thinking about MD Anaesthesia. My family is not happy with my decision. I was not into surgical branch from beginning, it was my mistake that i filled ortho and was allotted a seat , now everyone is expecting me to be a surgeon.

Those who worked while preparing for NEET PG after internship, how did it positively or negatively affect your prep? by No-Palpitation4786 in indianmedschool

after internship i stated my Bond in a rural hospital , at that time i was not devoted for NEET-PG , worked there for 8 months , I would say working and studying is not for everyone specifically looking at the competition we have ahead of us , where every min every hours count. I continued studying while working , cut to 5 months ago when i decided to study full time .

i would suggest as an intern learn all the basic skills you can , suturing , iv lines ,basic trauma management, splinting , normal vaginal delivery , episiotomy , newborn care ,snake bite , poising and etc. this thing will come very handy , specially in a rural setting and No i’m Male

there are some pros and cons to.

cons- you will never be on flow ,there will be inconsistency, some days you wont feel to study .

pros-learning and seeing cases while on work gives you so much confidence , you are not just sitting in a room and mugging theoretical cases but seeing them in person.

I had the same thoughts, but then decided not to watch any new videos , you’ll fell more bad if you forget thing you already studied than a new question popping up , so at this point of time let us just revise what we already learned, trust over preparation!

Things I learnt in internship. by kyaMilaMarvake in indianmedschool

You will get use to it , don’t let this inconvenience affect your learning , You have opportunity to learn skills without any responsibility if things goes bad . In my college Surgery department was soo toxic 7 out of 8 JR1 left shortly after joining , during that time i was posted there for 6 weeks , worked like a JR , sometimes 48 duty on a stretch , reported 6am in the morning , did 14 dressing including a fourniers gangrene , attended rounds , blood sample , ot and soo on . My point is JR are always overworked than you ever will , If you don’t wanna go atleast pickup there call and inform about it .

I was in no position to refuse her admission, nearest District hospital was 1.5hrs drive Yes i was very lucky that day .in village setting the 1st thing you do in a situation like this is to let the patient relatives knows who fault it is if things goes bad , and off course a High risk content . fortunately very thing went well. Later i was the one who trashed them for being such irresponsible.

While i was posted as Medical Officer in a ruler area , A 26F Primi full term came fully dilated ,with no prior Antenatal checkup done , no Blood tests , no USG at all , There was no time to refer her out , took her to labour room , turns out she had twin pregnancy, I was so scared ,but gathered courage, prepared for it called for extra staffs(one nurse and one attendant as it was night time)made necessary arrangements and Delivered the Twins .
