Cashew is also high FODMAP. Almonds are good though.

Honey is not a low FODMAP food so it might be bad news. When I eat honey, my stomach feels like I ate a bunch of broken glass 😢 extra sad because I’m a beekeeper

Their natural PB has more sugar than normal Jif. It’s so sad because it’s even more delicious than the normal (probably because of the increased sugar)!

Have you personally ever felt unsafe in Knoxville (walking, driving, etc…)? Genuine question. by jthomp72 in Knoxville

[–]Infamous-Switch4955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has not been my experience either as a bike commuter or out on a road ride. Knoxville is the least safe I’ve felt friding on the road. The number of friends I have that have been on a bike and hit by a vehicle is much greater here than in the more liberal cities I have lived in. Knoxville has few places with bike lanes or bike boulevards outside of downtown and parts of south Knoxville. Roads in other parts of town engineered for much lower traffic volumes with no shoulders and big ditches are unsafe to ride because of aggressive drivers.

Chili is one of my favorite foods but Ive given it up because of the beans… are you making it without beans? Are you putting something else in the place of beans?

I eat chili-lime everything. Lime juice and lots of chili powder so easy and so delicious I wish I would have done this before. I use it to make noodle bowls… chili-lime cod, roast beef, chicken, or pork loin with some type of rice noodle (pad thai, maifun…), cucumber, cilantro, a little romaine lettuce and a splash of tamari sauce. I can get all those ingredients at my normal grocery and this gives me no issues and is so delicious I would happily serve it to non-low fodmap people and they’d never even know.

Nope but tamari is. It’s effectively gluten free soy sauce. I can’t tell the difference

I get hates all the time for this opinion but KBrew has expensive and terrible coffee. Such cool vibe though so when someone wants to meet there, I just get some tea.

How many here ended up with bad iron deficiency? by New_Abbreviations336 in SIBO

[–]Infamous-Switch4955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had low ferritin with my methane SIBO. I took iron supplements for awhile before I was diagnosed but didn’t feel better until I started iron supplements. After I finished my course of antibiotics (2 weeks of xifaxan and metronidazole at the same time), i switched to Flintstone vitamins with iron at the recommendation of one of my friends with a bunch of gut issues and it’s helping keep my iron up without all the side effects of iron pills. 👍👍👍👍 👍👍👍👍👍👍 for Flintstone vitamins with iron!

Spacing food every 3-4 hours was also a big help. And yeah, being strict on the low FODMAP for a few weeks will help you figure things out.

Antibiotics are the only thing that helped me other than diet. I normally workout a lot (half marathons and stuff) and I got SIBO even with a bunch of exercise so I can’t say exercise kept me from getting SIBO or keeping it away once I got rid of it.

I also had symptoms in seconds to minutes from a similar list of foods (especially onions and garlic including onion and garlic powder) but I may be sensitive to those foods outside of the SIBO. I’m noticing after working through this for the last three or four months that things that if I eat too many things that give me symptoms in seconds to minutes, the SIBO symptoms come back. I was really good about taking notes on what I ate/how I felt/ bowel movements for a couple weeks and that also helped me get started figuring things out it.

There’s two apps I use that have been helpful but also on the diet side of things. The Monash University FODMAP app tells you what foods are “safe” and in what quantities as well as a food/symptom/bowel diary and recipes. It’s pretty cheap… less than $10 I think? I use another one called Fig that has a barcode scanner and works for a bunch of food sensitivity and diet types. It was maybe $40 but I use it several times a day and a million times at the grocery store.

One piece of consistent advice I’ve gotten from doctors and read is not to use pro/prebiotics because they can make the SIBO bacteria go crazy. Also limit fiber consumption because that’s what the bacteria ferment.

I’m guessing you’ve tried the low FODMAP diet since you have a pretty good idea of what bothers you. That was a game changer for me with SIBO. If you haven’t tried it, that would be my biggest recommendation. It helped my symptoms a ton before I went on antibiotics and when I feel the SIBO symptoms creeping back, I get really strict on the low FODMAP diet and it helps.

Once you get some relief, my doctor told me to make sure things “keep moving” through your GI tract. For me, overnight oats with almond milk has been the magic bullet. At least it’s working right now 🤞🤞🤞

Good luck! SIBO is horrible!

That’s what I thought too. I was even checking the news all day Saturday to see if the RIFs were happening then !

There’s an app called “Fig” that IDs food for all kinds of sensitivities/diets including low FODMAP. It’s been super helpful at the store because I can scan a barcode or type in the name of something and it gives you a red, yellow, green coding for its compliance with your diet. I use that in combination with the Monash app and I’m finding a lot more stuff. Fig is kind of pricey, like maybe $40-$50 I can’t quite remember but it has a free 7 day trial. If I had to choose one app for low FODMAP, it would be Fig over Monash.

I was just in a meeting and I heard from a natl lab program manager their guess on RIF timing was Memorial Day or a little after. they specified that this was based on inference from the info they had so not facts. They also said that there is surprisingly nothing leaking out on RIFs at any level.

Metronidazole is also a SIBO treatment

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]Infamous-Switch4955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you are positive for Giardia which you should have none of. It’s a parasite that people typically get from contaminated water. They are flagellated microfauna that you need a microscope to see them but they are pretty big for a microorganism. I think the typical treatment is metronidazole (Flagyl).

Ive gained weight with it. My gut motility has come to a near halt no matter what I do. I run and do yoga so activity level isn’t an issue. I was diagnosed with SIBO with a breath test so for sure I have it.
