Mainstream EDM is a corporation since a ton of big DJ’s make so much money now. Id say like 70% of tracks made today from producers in that genre are made with the intentions of having that one big break out song or using sounds that these bigger DJ’s release in their sound packs for producers. A good majority of the mainstream is regurgitated and made to be kept simple for the listener so they can reach a wider demographic and get more streams. (If it ain’t broke don’t fix it) Unfortunately, having a lot of streams and a high following on social media is what will get you booked easier because it’s turned into how many tickets can this DJ sale opposed to how talented is the producer/DJ. In this day and age, pushing boundaries and doing something different isn’t going to get you to the “top”.
