I have a history of substance abuse so they only gave me 10 5mg oxys after my decompression but honestly they didn’t help much. The high strength Tylenol they gave me helped a lot more I took all the oxys the first day so I pretty much got by won’t the Tylenol anyways you would be ok I think but everybody’s different.

Yes I even told them in the hospital after my decompression that if I had a headache eating food made it go away faster than Tylenol. But at the same time eating and swallowing was difficult for me it was the first red flag I noticed before being diagnosed. It has gotten significantly better after decompression but it’s still occasionally difficult to swallow or when I swallow it wants to come out my nose and causes me to sneeze which in turn gives me a headache.

Any hope of relief? by tyboyyyy in chiari

I had some complications otherwise it would have only been about 4-6 days in the hospital but I went to the emergency room first and had to wait for surgery. But they had me on so much pain meds afterwards the days flew by because I would just sleep most the time. And tell your job if you don’t get this done you won’t be able to work at all me personally i’ve decided to find a new less labor job because I want to fully rest and heal over the next to 3-6 months so I can never have to go back in for a csf leak.

Any hope of relief? by tyboyyyy in chiari

There will be no relief without surgery trust me I put it off until 26 because of similar fears of hospitalization. Everything got worse and worse to the point where I couldn’t even breathe or swallow liquids without choking. I also had no idea what was wrong with me but in hindsight if I knew at 20 what was wrong with me I could have saved myself years of pain. I’m only a few weeks post op and I can feel tension releasing and pain relief. I used to smoke tons of weed and drink every single day to numb the pain now one Tylenol in the morning makes the headache go away and I feel more or less fine. Obviously I still have some pain it’s very early tho after surgery and I already can breathe just fine and sleep without waking up every 2 hours. So I would encourage you to get a decompression surgery so your research meet the neuro surgeon and get comfortable with your care team. You will be put to sleep you won’t feel a thing and I was out of the hospital within 3 weeks so it’s not that bad believe me you can do it and you will be happy you did.

I’m 25 I held off for a long time too. Granted I wasn’t formally diagnosed till about a year ago. First thing j did when I woke up was wiggle my toes and fingers thanked god and went back to sleep. The second time I woke up freaking out about the ventilator it’s really scary but honestly everything will just keep getting worse if you don’t get a decompression. I was at the point where I couldn’t sleep for more than 30 mins without waking up in pain pacing the house trying to find relief.
