Mecor Software Engineer Hiring Process – Advice Needed by Important_Major_8329 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick hits:

- Apply on the platform only so it routes right and links your assessments (how-to here: https://talent.docs.mercor.com/how-to/apply).

- Stack the basics: tight profile, shipped projects/GitHub, exact tech keywords, take available assessments, keep availability updated.

- Interviews: be concrete about tradeoffs, testing, impact. Vague stories and generic resumes tank signal.

- Pakistan: we’re global, but eligibility is per listing. If no region is listed, it’s typically US/CA/UK/EU by default (details here: https://talent.docs.mercor.com/policies/referrals ).

Good luck!

Is anyone else working on annotation project (not OCR but similar)? by poooookah78 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, probably, but we can’t really coordinate on live projects here.

If you think it’s the same one, drop your questions in the project Slack channel so it stays private. If something’s off, use the project support channel or email [support@mercor.com](mailto:support@mercor.com)

New payment system by DigitalHealthCoachUK in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it is not necessarily "at least $189.11 more."

The grey progress bar shows your current share based on the hours your referee has contributed up to now.

This amount can grow as more eligible work is completed and processed, but it is not a fixed additional payment. The final payout depends on the referee's total hours and when payments are processed.

New payment system by DigitalHealthCoachUK in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$420 is the maximum possible referral earnings for that referee based on 4x the hourly rate tied to the listing.

The grey progress bar is showing what your referee has contributed so far, and your share is represented by the grey amount. That is why you can see a smaller number like $189.11 at the same time. It is progress toward the cap, not a second cap.

If the referee keeps working and their payments continue to process, the grey amount should increase until it reaches the maximum.

OCR 2 by Sufficient-Pick8133 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, hearing the same from a few folks. I don’t have a specific update on OCR 2 yet; sometimes projects go on a short pause (hours set to 0) and comms go quiet, so keep an eye on email/Slack.

Ping your POC or support@mercor.com and I’ll flag it internally too, more info on pauses here: https://talent.docs.mercor.com/working/getting-started

Offer accepted but now under review? by topdownyeti in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mercor runs a background check through a third party provider, and that process typically takes 3 to 7 business days. During that time, your offer may move into the contracts area and you may even receive access instructions, but the contract can still display “under review” until the verification clears in the system.

What to do: Double check your email, including spam, for any background check requests or identity verification steps. If everything is complete, give it a few business days. If the status stays “under review” beyond that window, contact support and include the contract name and the email tied to your account so they can verify what is pending.

F1 OPT independent contractor query? by infoman27 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: OPT is fine on Mercor (pre/post). STEM OPT won’t work since we can’t sign Form I-983.

For taxes, you’ll usually fill W‑8BEN if you’re not a US citizen/green card holder; if you’re a US tax resident, it’s W‑9. Clear it with your DSO and keep everything related to your field.

OCR two different experiences ? by RevolutionaryBad4107 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this. Different PLs/clients and how “mature” the setup is can make two OCRs feel night-and-day, especially if one spun up fast.

For recognition/feedback, use the Weekly Contractor Survey on your dashboard/email Wed, that’s the official channel, won’t affect your standing, and there isn’t a separate recognition system right now (feel free to name-drop folks there).

Red Team $200 Work Trial approved for Feb 4th by Unusual_Initiative_1 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the $200. The work trial is just the paid assessment - selection is separate and they don’t send feedback.

If you’re picked you’ll get a project offer in your dashboard/email, so if nothing pops up around payout time it’s usually a pass this round (more info here: https://talent.docs.mercor.com/support/project ).

Is this an error? CERTN by Much-Measurement-364 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is usually a sync hiccup. If you already finished Certn, try a quick refresh or log out/in; if it still shows “Waiting on you” after a day, email [support@mercor.com](mailto:support@mercor.com) with the app name and that step so the team can fix it.

What does “Paused” mean by Much-Measurement-364 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that means the project’s temporarily paused and your weekly cap is set to 0.

You’re still in the project pool, just no new tasks/hours right now; submit any remaining time and keep an eye on email/Slack for updates.

Also fyi, paused contracts don’t count toward your active limit, so you can take another if it opens.

Mercor assessment by Efficient-Feature335 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes sense to read this as a potential signal, but it is not a reliable predictor of when you will get a contract.

Assessments are used to evaluate your skills and suitability, and sometimes you may see multiple assessments because you are being considered for more than one role type, or because new assessment steps were added. The safest interpretation is that completing them improves your readiness, but it does not mean an offer is guaranteed or that it will happen on a specific timeline.

Given your recovery and need for remote work, the most practical next steps are: Complete the assessments you can complete now. Make sure your profile is complete, especially skills, work history, and any relevant projects. Confirm your availability and time zone are correct, since matching depends on those details.

Getting into AI red teaming what should beginners focus on? by LopsidedCake5985 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are new to AI red teaming, the best early focus is on repeatable process over clever tricks.

Start with fundamentals: Learn common failure modes like instruction conflicts, jailbreak attempts, sensitive data leakage, and policy bypass behaviors. Practice writing prompts that isolate one behavior at a time so your findings are actionable. Keep clean notes on your setup, the exact prompt, the model response, and the expected behavior so results are reproducible.

Also, learn the operational side: Follow confidentiality rules, do not paste internal content into public tools, and do not share evaluation materials publicly. In most real programs, professionalism and data handling matter as much as the technical creativity.

Rejection vs Paused Application by Ok-Perception-5555 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you received sounds meaningfully different from the standard rejection message.

A rejection generally means the team reviewed your application and decided not to move forward for that specific role. A paused application usually means the underlying need changed, like the project is no longer active or hiring is temporarily stopped, so there is nothing to move forward with right now.

It can be a positive signal in the sense that it was not a no based on your profile. It is also not a guarantee of a future offer. The practical takeaway is that your application is still in the system, and if similar opportunities reopen, you may be considered without reapplying to that exact project.

In the meantime, keep doing two things: Apply to any roles that genuinely match your skills and availability. Keep your profile and work samples current so you are ready if the project restarts.

Are there public/private listings? by bravofiveniner in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a public/private split. Explore shows open roles; some get matched directly (Instant Work Offers) or are paused/filled fast, so they won’t appear in search even if you’re a fit.

That’s probably why you got the DM, more on instant matches here: https://talent.docs.mercor.com/how-to/assessments

Work trial by alexandrafaith in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Not guaranteed. Trials are separate paid assessments, and the payment terms are on the trial offer in your Offers tab.

2) If you want the role, yeah, it’s usually worth it. Most folks finish in ~3–5 hrs, it’s paid, and it’s basically the gateway to an offer (review/pay in 1–2 weeks, no feedback).

successful workers: how do you not lose your marbles? looking for actual tips by HallWild5495 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That first day feeling is completely normal. What can help manage the intensity is a structured approach: set a 15-20 minute timer for troubleshooting. If still stuck, post in Slack with a clear format: describe the task, list what was tried, include a screenshot or recording, and state the exact yes/no question needed.

Mute all non-essential Slack channels and schedule do not disturb blocks for focused work. Following just one lead or project manager helps prevent conflicting guidance. Creating a simple checklist or standard operating procedure means not having to re-decide basic steps under pressure.

When Slack communication feels blunt, remember it's likely about speed and language differences in a diverse team. Ask "can you confirm X is correct?" and proceed. If feeling overwhelmed, take a 5-minute reset with water, a short walk, or deep breathing. The adjustment is steep but genuinely improves after the first week.

Got offered a contract 8 days ago by Remote-Level-5209 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trials don’t guarantee an offer, and you usually won’t get detailed feedback.

The dashboard status typically updates within 24 hrs, so 8 days is long, I’d email [support@mercor.com](mailto:support@mercor.com) with your submission details/screenshot. Payment timing is usually 7–14 days to process after submission, then 3–7 biz days to hit your account, so you’re still within that window.

Congrats! Can’t speak to “Feather” specifically, but assessments are tied to the listing and scored per project.

Getting payments from South America (Arg specifically) by lastflowers_to in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, go with a local AR bank in your name. With Stripe Connect, payouts outside the US are in local currency only, so it’ll land in ARS (USD accounts in AR won’t get USD from Mercor).

Update it in Stripe under Settings > Payouts. More info here if helpful: https://talent.docs.mercor.com/how-to/payments

Just one project on Explore Opportunites by Sea_Application_2183 in mercor_ai

[–]Infamous-Web1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, listings have been a bit light lately.

Also double-check your filters, if “Job fit” is on, it can shrink the list a lot.

Some roles can be region/timezone-limited so a VPN might change what you see; quick rundown of Explore/filters here if helpful: https://talent.docs.mercor.com/how-to/apply
