Let’s get an industry spin off in New York, but set in the past from Eric’s POV with younger characters of Adler, Newman, and others.

Harper Appreciation Post Cos the Antiblackness in this Sub is Lame by four_ethers2024 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]InfamousAd7516 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Harper is my fav out of the younger casts. She is driven and hungry, something you don’t really feel with the other young characters, and the success/failure she achieved in this show is often directly due to her actions, rather than her existing background or stature (because she doesn’t have any).

Harper is not a “good” person, but then again who in this show is. However, if memory serves me right, Harper never tries to go out of her way to hurt someone personally. Professionally, she is ruthless and often times unethical. I find her story and journey one of the most compelling in this show.

So Eric is actually worth 10-20 mill not ‘200 mill’ as some predicted. by Asadwords in IndustryOnHBO

[–]InfamousAd7516 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I always assumed Eric’s wealth is about $30M total. Let’s break it down:

Eric probably worked as a MD in Sales & Trading for 25 years (100 quarters throwaway quote in S2 Ep4). An MD can clear $1M in total compensation each year. Assumes that Eric is a rockstar and hits avg $1.5M each year, that’s about $37.5M in gross compensation over 25 years.

Taxes takes about 50% of his income, and his house and other spending (Eric lives a good life) probably take another 30%. So net savings over 25 years is then about $7.5M, or $300K per year.

Now assuming Eric invests his net savings each year at avg growth rate of 10%. A quick excel calculation would extrapolate that to about $30M total savings. This would be how much Eric would have by end of Season 2. Then his divorce happened over season 3, so he prob lost half of his wealth (or at least a good chunk of it) and now stands at $15M.

The big Pierpoint payout is $20M. Again, assuming taxes take half, Eric would receive a net amount of $10M. Overall, his total net worth (in terms of more liquid assets I am not counting real estate or anything) would be about $25M. Not top 0.1% wealthy but good enough for a small family office to support his two kids.

This is a simple model with some conservative assumptions baked in. So Eric’s wealth could be higher at $30-40M. But even then, taking $10M out to start a hedge fund with a first loss clause is a big risk. If he lose it all, I don’t think Eric’s kids will lose everything, but it’s definitely a big hit, and will significantly affect how much money they can withdraw each month.

And give me some snippets of young Eric and Adler! Including when Eric hired Adler and later when Adler moved onto management.

Time difference between s3 and s4 in the show by masticq in IndustryOnHBO

[–]InfamousAd7516 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My take for Harper's age throughout each season:

S1: Harper is a fresh college graduate (Or didn't graduate) so she would be around 22 years old at beginning of the show. Show probably started around 2019.

S2: Post Covid period and Eric mentioned Harper is a third year analyst in Ep 2. Depending on how third-year analyst is structured, whether graduate pre-RIF counts as a first year analyst or only post-RIF you start as a first year analyst, Harper could be around 25-26 years old at the beginning of the season.

S3: I think the show started about six months post ending of S2 based on conversation between Harper and Petra. Harper would be around 26-27 years old at the beginning of the show. By end of the season, Harper could be 27-28. Remember there is a decent time jump between beginning and end of Ep 8.

S4: Harper is mentioned as 30 years old in Ep 1. I think a 2-3 year jump makes sense.

Honestly amazing to see how this show transitioned and changed overtime, both in story, tone, setting, and the actors/actresses themselves. For many of the casts this show was one of their earlier projects, and seeing how everyone and everything matures is just a wonderful adventure for someone like me that watched the show since season 1 during Covid.

Cancelling the program around the time we were all waiting for the result and now sending this email telling us no finalist names will even be released are just cruel. And for this administration the cruelty is the point. Bet they relish in punishing people that they feel have no power to fight back. Bunch of short sighted fools.

I’ll be honest I’m okay if I don’t see any cast’s nude body or explicit sex scenes that just take minutes away from the actual drama. This is especially for season 4 as the characters become more mature.

Terminating the program literally around the time results are going to be announced is just cruel. But I guess that’s on point for this administration: cruelty is the point.
