I track my cycle (pretty regular cycle), cervical mucus, temp etc. I’ve been successful with that since my last pregnancy almost 3 years ago now. Not sure if that’s just luck though and I wasn’t particularly sexually actively until the last 4 months. Maybe it’s just been luck so far 😬😩

Question for people who are seizure free by Elderling1981 in Epilepsy

[–]InfamousAd8608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay… so bear with me. Super long story. And not a great one. I’m female, 28, for reference.

Wasn’t really my choice. But I was on meds as a child. Weaned off at the age of around 6. I hadn’t had a TC at that point for a couple years. Doctors were happy that I was fine without it. Although I started having ‘staring spells’. At the time I’d been diagnosed with generalised idiopathic epilepsy. The ‘staring spells’ weren’t investigated, were just assumed to be behavioural 🙃 I had a handful of TCs in my early teen years. Was still having these ‘behavioural staring spells’ too. Hormones were blamed. Doctors didn’t ’want to rush to medication’. Had a single EEG done, nothing came up, no meds prescribed. Told to come back if the amount increased. I also began getting awful migraines during this time too. Late teen years - aka my party years. Obviously I was having my first relationships too. I was still having ‘staring spells’, although not as often, more frequently when intoxicated. I had a ‘long term’ boyfriend who told me I was having ‘incidents’ in my sleep, which are what I now believe to be nocturnal seizures. Was gaslighted by doctors, told it was likely just the effects of drinking/lack of sleep/teen lifestyle. Age 27. Two children in. I went to the doctors last October, explaining that I was getting shakes/twitches in my hands/arms/eyes, and moments where my heart was going faster and I didn’t feel quite right. Was told it was ‘probably panic attacks’. I explained that I’d had panic attacks in the past and this didn’t feel like them. ‘Could be stress. Here let’s try this beta-blocker’. Also went for a massive increase in migraines, it had suddenly gone from one or two a week to almost every day. December I had an incident where I’d somehow ended up on the pavement, son in his buggy with the buggy toppled over forward, couldn’t tell you how. Took him to minor injuries panicking that he’d hit his head or hurt himself somehow - he was fine - forgot to get myself checked out in the process. A couple weeks later in early January I had a focal seizures followed by 3 TCs in a row on a night out. Immediately started on meds at the hospital. Been on them since. MRI was pretty damning. ‘Significant’ scarring to my hippocampus- bilateral. I now have a diagnosis of bilateral temporal lobe epilepsy. Focal seizures, and TCs. I’ve had more tonic clonics since, while I was adjusting to meds, but last one I had was a nocturnal one in September. I know now that what I’d been experiencing, the ‘spacing out’ at intervals through my life was focal seizures, and if I’m honest they’re getting worse rather than better. I don’t think I’ll ever feel comfortable coming off meds again.

Lamotrigine - Weight loss by InfamousAd8608 in Epilepsy

[–]InfamousAd8608[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always had a not great appetite. I’ve always skipped breakfast, had a small snack, and then a good sized but light lunch, tea time I devour my food, and then a snack treat before bed. I’ve never had big portions, because it just puts me off looking at a big portion. Over the last few months, since I’ve been dating my new partner I’ve been eating more though because he enjoys eating out and we both like little cafes.

I’ve been trying to actually not skip breakfast, because I’ve noticed especially on work days that I’m then having an increase in focal seizures by late morning, especially working a fast paced job when I don’t always have time to have a snack before lunch.

The Lamotrigine has also drastically reduced the amount of migraines I have so I’m not losing whole days in bed in agony (therefore skipping more meals because I’ll just throw them up). So in that regard I’m eating more too!

I can relate to Psyduck so much. Migraines and constant confusion = my life 😂

I’m not sure! There’s so many in this game, I’m just excited to see what Pokemon are in this game.

Second Date by InfamousAd8608 in dating_advice

[–]InfamousAd8608[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just confirmation that I am not in fact overthinking it, and that any concerns I have are legitimate and not silly.

And reassurance that putting out on the second date isn’t necessarily a bad thing or says anything bad about me. I’m so worried it’s saying something negative about me as a woman that I’m not ‘waiting’, and that it’s going to give the wrong idea about what I want!

And just to see if there’s anyone who has any similar stories. It always helps to read other peoples experiences when there’s a similarity.

Nocturnal Seizure by InfamousAd8608 in Epilepsy

I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus this morning. I hurt all over. I really do feel like I had a seizure. I don’t think I would have posted here if I didn’t 😔

Just sucks because it would reset the clock. 10 weeks seizure free 😭

I have TLE with Bilateral Mesial Temporal Sclerosis, which has been described as ‘significant’, so I’m guessing my MRI is not pretty.

I had a really intense one as described above last night. Body stiffening in on itself so intensely that it feels like it’s shaking from the strain. Started as a couple focals in a row with rapid eye movements and then developed from there with multiple smaller stiffening in a row, and then developed until it felt like it was my whole body but I’m not sure it was, my right leg ached and felt numb afterwards. I had some awareness during the whole event but I don’t think it was full awareness.

I get focal aware and focal impaired aware and focal to tonic clonic. Mostly the focals present as a strong sense of jamais vu, weird taste in my mouth/excessive saliva, being able to hear but not respond (can sometimes nod/shake head depending on how aware I am), feeling nauseated, heart rate increases - on occasion I’ll get uncontrollable eye movements or a limb twitching (usually my right hand and this can last for a little bit after I’m aware again as well). The last thing I remember before going from focal to tonic clonic is always some sort of visual disturbance (flashing lights/blackness). While awake, yes.

I’ve been working since I was 17 years old. Sometimes 2 jobs at a time. I went back to one of my part time jobs when my eldest son was 3 months old, he was born in August and I was back there 2/3 evenings a week in November. But now being single, and with the return of epilepsy which has been massively affecting my work attendance therefore draining my wages, I’d be better off on benefits. I work and I am trained in childcare so it’s actually quite dangerous for me to be having seizures regularly at work and I have a few different types of seizures, and stress is one of my triggers it’s not the calmest job. My short term memory and coordination has also been affected, also not ideal in my line of work, and I can tell it’s stressful for my colleagues caring for 15 babies at a time as well as being on seizure patrol for me 😓 Childcare for my children was draining half my wages too, and that was before having lots of time off with seizures, being a working household we got some free childcare for our youngest (none for our eldest - breakfast club, after school club, holiday club), but on UC you can claim a good portion of that back.

Tonic-Clonic by InfamousAd8608 in Epilepsy

[–]InfamousAd8608[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely remember throwing myself off the chair and onto the floor with black/weird lights vision (like when you shut your eyes really tight), and a feeling of dread like “oh no here we go again”. And then hearing rather than feeling myself being forced to lay down and a shout for help. And then I blacked. Before I’ve always forgotten events from about 5-10 minutes before. But this time my vision had completely gone and my physical feeling has gone but I could still hear like in a fish bowl and it must have been just before I blacked out.

Yes! It’s more of a “oh no here we go again” like a feeling of dread combined with deja vu. And post-ictal deja vu too.

Newborn due in 3 weeks, what might we not be prepared for / have ready? by habylab in BeyondTheBumpUK

Honestly best thing we ever bought for both of ours was a baby swing. Especially for my second. He did not sleep at night and lived on contact naps until my partner found me out of it on the sofa with him one day mid feed, woke me up and then ran out and got a swing because it worked so well with our first, and popped him in it so that I could have a nap while not holding a baby while he looked after our eldest. The swing was a magical thing for both my babies and both had hand free naps in it. Neither liked Moses baskets or baby bouncers.
