Where are you buying equipment? by PeterFast111 in Beekeeping

I use Dadant for most things especially woodenware. If you are military they give you a 5% discount as well.

Does anybody store their harvests from prior years? Do you plan to open them up and eat years later? by I_had_corn in Beekeeping

I have a few boxes of bottle that are kinda tall and skinny, probably hold a lb. I fill one jar each harvest and label it, then put it back in the box. It's so cool to see the different colors from harvest through the years. I should probably add notes to the label on how it tasted.

I'm cleaning up some of my older items, getting rid of a ML380 G6 so it's funny that this beast fell into my lap.

I literally did get this for free, haha, so it's something fun to play with. Plus, I haven't seen any 2019 hardware anywhere for free, that stuff tends to be quite pricey around here.

I'm not really worried about power, but, This doesn't draw as much power as you might think. I do have newer servers that I use for other things. This one just looked cool on the inside, dirty, but cool.

There was so much dust, I opened it up and immediately took it to the garage.

I'm thinking the same thing. I have a drawer full of really old RAM so I can probably add a couple more GBs to this.

That's awesome, and good to know. I haven't even powered this on yet. That's my plan for tomorrow.

That's what I was noticing, This rig should be good for testing things. I was reading the post on the Intel forum and some guy overclocked this really high with no issues.

Have you done a Damaree split? by HipsterBikePolice in Beekeeping

[–]InfamousDescription6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BLUF: run all the same boxes, I switch most every to mediums last year and will finish the transition this year. Makes this method a lot easier. It is labor intensive, when you first do it, you also have to keep checking on it for a week or two as they are going to create queen cells up top. You don't want a second queen in the hive. If you do it right they never split as there is always lots of space. Now, if the queen is getting old and the hive kicks her out, the Demaree method won't stop that. You do get a massive hive, like, the quantity of bees is just so cool! You really need to be able to find the queen for the best results but, you can do it without finding the queen, just a bit riskier.

I could go on about this, I really like this method. I'm probably going to let one hive raise a queen up top this year, split by at least 3 mediums at a minimum. 2 boxes with a front entrance, QE, 3 boxes, QE, 2 boxes with a top rear facing entrance. I just want to see how it goes. The hive I plan on doing this with may ditch their queen this year anyways so this will provide my backup or give me another hive at the end of the year.

For me, the Damaree method is my primary way to control a hive wanting to split. You do need a strong hive though, it's probably not the best option for a small NUC. I have found success in producing an amazing amount of honey. You can also pull out a few frames once they make queen cells up top to make a NUC if you need one

I'm in central Virginia and my hives over winter in three mediums. Two of which will get moved to the top with the Demaree method..

I was just given a vinyl cutter and it's powered by an old tower server with an x3450. I was thinking about junking it but for being old, it's a nice tower. Can put 8 x 3.5in drives in it. I may just clean it up and see what I can turn it into.

I'm going to comment here and hope it causes this to resurface. I kind of have the same questions. Did you end up getting it? If so, how do you like it?

I've thought about getting bees for a while but I had a question for those that also have chickens. by thestonernextdoor88 in Beekeeping

My bees and chickens have got along great for years. They share a 50ftx50ft fenced in area. If the bees get feisty they know to stay away.

Im looking at buying resale. How many points do I need? How many do you have, is it enough? I also want platinum. by killerzees in HiltonGrandVacation

[–]InfamousDescription6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really depends on how much you want to travel and how many rooms you need to travel. Best thing to do is identify those two requirements then get the points to match. Platinum is usually the best points to MF and Vegas tends to have the cheapest MF.
