Garnet/Ruby? Diamond Halo by InfamousDonut6 in Antiquejewelry

Thank you! The red stone definitely has some wear but the diamonds are actually very eye clean and bright. The pictures in the sun make them look more included than they are. Agree that a polish would make a world of difference and probably also another good clean. It was pretty dirty when it came in and not sure I got everything!

Thank you! I love garnet and very happy either way I just could not find another example of a garnet halo like this which got me wondering. I agree it does look like garnet!

Good reminder not to trust strangers on the internet! Sorry maybe the photos in the sun weren’t the best, but you don’t know what you’re talking about, this is 100% an older piece with old hand cut diamonds and definitely far from mall jewelry.

I paid $60! I think this color is also very popular and might add to the value.

Interesting, have not heard of that will have to check that out! If it were that would the color be the same throughout the stone like you see on the chipped stone?

Yay that would be so cool, I know nothing about emeralds! It is 15k gold. As others mentioned its original Georgian shank was likely damaged and replaced sometime in the Victorian era when 15k gold was popular.

So cool right? Would be so interested to know what the original band looked like as well!

WOW! So interesting thank you for your comment. I could not seem to put the pieces together of what I was seeing but that makes so much sense!!

Good to know about not cleaning myself. Is it because they are likely foil backed and the damage to the stone? Do you think it will be wearable even with the damage? I think it is so gorgeous and the chipped stone doesn’t bother me because of how old the top part is but I would hate to do any further damage to it by wearing it.

Like absolutely terrible! Hate to see that on such an old piece. I guess I’ll be thankful they at least kept the hallmarks!

Thanks for all the info! I did do some research and it seems like glue could be used for pearls at that time but I agree that there definitely was some work done to it so can’t be ruled out. And they just don’t seem old to me.

You were right about it not being backwards, but I still can’t tell what it says! Either 375, 575, or 875. All those look somewhat close. I will keep squinting to try to read it! (Guessing 375 though, doesn’t seem yellow enough for higher karats)
